A lubricant is applied to swage contact surfaces in a disk drive of the type including a suspension arm connected to an actuator arm by a swaging process. A preferred thin film lubricant may be applied to the contact surfaces by immersion and draining, immersion and raising the part out of the solution, localized spraying, or various deposition processes. Application of the lubricant reduces chipping during de-swaging, particularly with nickel plated metal components. Application of the lubricant has also shown to improve gram load uniformity, reduce adverse distortion to the actuator assembly and reduces torque out retention values. Improved gram load uniformity enhances overall disk drive functioning, reduced distortion preserves intended attitude and flatness of the actions for assembly and reduced torque out retention values improves reworkability of the disk drive.

Method of reducing torque out retention values in de-swaging of actuator of disk drive

A head stack assembly comb () for maintaining the heads () of a head stack assembly () in spaced relation is disclosed. The head stack assembly comb () includes a comb body () and a latch (). The comb body () engages an upper surface of an uppermost actuator arm () in the head stack assembly (). The latch () engages a lower surface of this same actuator arm (). When installing the comb (), the comb () is pivoted relative to the head stack assembly (). This brings the latch () into engagement with the noted actuator arm () and causes the latch () to pivot in a first direction against a spring (), and then in the opposite direction by the action of the spring () on the latch () to engage the latch () with the lower surface of the noted actuator arm ().

Spring assisted head stack assembly comb

A method is provided for assembling an actuator assembly of a disk drive. The method includes providing an actuator arm, providing a suspension arm, fixing a swage plate to the suspension arm, the swage plate including a swage boss extending therefrom, depositing a film lubricant upon at least an outer surface of the swage boss, and attaching the suspension arm to the actuator arm by swaging. A method is also provided for reducing torque out retention values between the actuator arm and the suspension arm when the actuator arm and suspension arm must be separated in a subsequent de-swaging process. This method includes providing an outer surface of the swage boss, and applying a lubricant film coating to the outer surface of the swage boss. A preferred thin film lubricant may be applied by emersion and draining, localized spraying, or various deposition processes. Application of the lubricant has also shown to improve gram load uniformity and to reduce adverse distortion to the actuator assembly which otherwise occurs during swaging.

Method of assembling an actuator assembly of a disk drive and of reducing torque out retention values in subsequent de-swaging

A material delivery system is disclosed which is particularly useful for filtered environments, such as clean rooms, minienvironments, or the like. One aspect of this particular material delivery system is that movement of an elevator is automatically controlled (i.e., no operator input), and more preferably is accomplished by monitoring for the presence of containers at multiple vertical positions. Another aspect of this particular material delivery system is that its elevator may be installed on and removed from a main housing of the material delivery system without requiring any tools. Yet another aspect of this particular material delivery system is that containers need not be unloaded from the material delivery system prior to removing its elevator, such as for replacement/maintenance purposes.

Material delivery system for clean room-like environments

A material delivery system is disclosed which is particularly useful for filtered environments, such as clean rooms, minienvironments, or the like. In one embodiment, the material delivery system is disposed below a work area in a clean room-like environment to store parts to be used at the work area. In another embodiment, the material delivery system includes a material delivery elevator for transporting parts to a desired elevational level. In yet another embodiment, the material delivery system includes a cover which is detachably interconnected with a body to define an enclosed material storage area. An assembly is provided to lock the cover down onto the body with a gasket therebetween to appropriately seal this interconnection. This same assembly lifts the cover up and away from the body so as to not damage this gasket. Finally, this same assembly also allows the cover to be rolled off of the body without exposing the gasket to any shear-like forces so as to further reduce the potential for damage to the gasket during removal of the cover from the body.

An improved arm for an electronic servo mechanism is described which includes a plurality of glue pockets formed within it for bonding a coil assembly to the arm. A method for bonding the coil assembly to the arm is described in which a predetermined amount of glue is placed into each of the glue pockets.

Method of attaching a voice coil to an actuator arm

In the assembly and testing of hard disk drive systems, a station having the capability of performing soldering and testing operations on a disk drive subassembly unit, such as a head gimbal assembly. The subassembly unit is placed onto a fixture. The fixture firmly holds the subassembly unit during both the soldering and testing operations. Wires are reflow soldered onto solder pads of a flex circuit. Afterwards, the subassembly unit is subjected to a variety electrical tests. The results of these tests are displayed to the operator. If these results indicate that there might be a problem with the wiring and/or soldering, the operator can readily 'retouch' or resolder the wiring and repeat the testing procedure to verify that the remedial measures have corrected the problem.
