Methods and devices are disclosed for treating a patient with an unruptured saccular aneurysm that is not associated with an arteriovenous malformation, wherein ionizing radiation is delivered to the brain of a patient through stereotactic radiosurgery. The radiosurgery may be performed with a Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery apparatus, LINAC device such as CYBERKNIFE&#xae; stereotactic radiosurgery apparatus, or particle-beam device. The treatment impedes a natural progression of the aneurysm towards rupture and may actually obliterate the aneurysm. The treatment plan may be based in part on measured geometric properties of the aneurysm or on physical aneurysm properties such as permeability, wall thickness, wall motion, the presence of macrophages, shear stress, and flow velocities. The methods may be used in conjunction with endovascular coil embolization.

Treatment of unruptured saccular intracranial aneurysms using stereotactic radiosurgery

Most of the time, the disclosed plant husbandry and food preparation apparatus encloses a garden plant, such that the plant is protected on all sides from animals. It may comprise a planter in which the plant is grown, a cage that is attached to the lip of the planter, and a dome containing apertures, which is seated atop the cage. The seated dome may be opened, while the dome is still attached to the cage, allowing the gardener to harvest produce. The opened dome is configured for use as a receptacle into which the harvested produce is deposited. The dome is also configured to be effortlessly detachable from the remainder of the apparatus, so that produce within it may be conveniently transported and rinsed. Methods and devices to treat discogenic lumbar back pain are disclosed. Electrodes are implanted within the anterior epidural space of the patient. A pulse generator that is connected to the electrodes delivers electrical impulses to sympathetic nerves located within the posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL) of the lumbar spine and outer posterior annulus fibrosus of the intervertebral disc. In alternate embodiments, energy directed to nerves in the PLL may be from light or mechanical vibrations, or the nerves may be cooled. The electrodes may also be used diagnostically to correlate spontaneous nerve activity with spinal movement, fluctuations in autonomic tone and the patient's experience of pain. The electrodes may also be used to generate diagnostic evoked potentials. The diagnostic data are used to devise parameters for the therapeutic nerve stimulation. Automatic analysis of the data may be incorporated into a closed-loop system that performs the nerve stimulation automatically.

System and methods for diagnosis and treatment of discogenic lower back pain

Disclosed methods and devices treat lower back pain from degenerated or injured intervertebral discs. Electrodes connected to a pulse generator deliver electrical impulses to nerves located within the posterior longitudinal ligament and posterior annulus fibrosus of lumbar intervertebral discs. Percutaneous and paddle leads containing the electrodes are disclosed. The percutaneous lead, designed to prevent inappropriate stimulation of the thecal sac, is inserted in the anterior epidural space using a special cannula and lead blank. Paddle leads are configured individually for implantation in each patient. The electrical stimulation may reduce back pain reversibly, with or without the simultaneous use of non-thermal irreversible electroporation. If such stimulation is unsuccessful, nerves in the ligament or annulus fibrosus may then be injured therapeutically without repositioning the lead, using impulses that result in heating, wherein a thermal insulator covers the thecal sac, thereby shielding nerves within the thecal sac from potential heat damage.

System and method for electrical stimulation of the lumbar vertebral column

Disclosed methods and devices treat chronic lower back pain from degenerated or injured intervertebral discs. Electrodes connected to a pulse generator deliver electrical impulses to nerves located within the posterior longitudinal ligament and annulus fibrosus of lumbar intervertebral discs. The stimulation reduces back pain reversibly, adjustably, and with almost complete coverage of the pain-generating region. A temporary percutaneous lead and a permanent paddle lead are used. The percutaneous lead, designed to prevent inappropriate stimulation of the thecal sac, is inserted using a specially-designed introducer cannula and lead blank. The paddle lead is configured individually for implantation in the anterior epidural space of each patient. Electrical stimulation parameters may also be selected so as to ablate the nerves, using non-thermal irreversible electroporation, or using joule heating wherein a thermal insulator covers substantially all of the thecal sac, thereby shielding the thecal sac from potential heat damage.

The present invention provides a biochip microarray, with multiple properties for use in identification of gene- and protein-induction or repression by drugs, the evaluation of efficacy and toxicity of any drug of choice, prediction of efficacy and toxicity of newly-discovered drugs, families of drugs or classes of drugs. Experimental information acquired from the biochip is inputted into a Drug-Gene-Protein-Biology (DGPB) database from which experimental data can be mined and analyzed based on the users preferences. A method for predicting the effect of a test composition for the treatment of a disease also is described. An animal model for the disease is selected. A biochip array for evaluating the effect of the test composition for the treatment of the disease is provided. The test composition is tested in the animal model to obtain a first set of biological markers representative of the effect of the test composition in the animal model. The biochip array generates a first set of data representative of the first set of biological markers. The first set of data is evaluated to predict the effect of the test composition on the disease. Preferably, the animal model is a standard animal model for human disease.
