A laser system for use in medical, industrial, commercial or research applications in which the location and energy and power density of a nonvisible (e.g., infrared or ultraviolet) laser beam is defined by a plurality of visible beams. Collimating optics are used to direct both the nonvisible and visible beams on the target, such that when the visible beam is in focus on the target, the nonvisible beam has the optimum energy and power density. One implementation of the invention is a self-contained hand-held surgical laser that provides surgeons with the optimal laser beam parameters for laser tissue soldering.

Handheld laser system emitting visible non-visible radiation

A method and apparatus utilizing a series of optical components and systems which effectively detect and locate electromagnetic imaging or detection systems or devices, such as cameras and passive infrared detectors. A light source is arranged in a specially-prescribed manner, and is used in conjunction with imaging optics to illuminate an area. Any electromagnetic imaging or detection system in the illuminated area is detected with either the user's eye directly, or with detection optics to determine the existence of such electromagnetic imaging or detection system.

Method and apparatus for locating electromagnetic imaging and detection systems/devices

A shield in combination with a plurality of high-brightness light sources used for riot, capture or other control of individuals. The light array utilizes a plurality of high-brightness light sources to provide a broad-area, high-intensity light for visual countermeasures. By providing a sudden burst of very bright light to surprise a subject and cause the subject to look away or close his or her eyes, the overseer, such as a police officer, can cause sufficient distraction to effectively capture or control the subject without harm.

An optical reader for reading optical indicia which includes an imaging element for forming an image of the optical indicia at an image plane. The optical reader further includes an aperture positioned at the image plane and having a width smaller than the width of a smallest element in the image to be discerned by the optical reader, the aperture permitting illumination from a portion of the image to impinge upon a photodetector. The optical reader further includes a displacement system which produces relative movement between the image and the aperture to produce an output of the photodetector indicative of the optical indicia.

A self-contained non-lethal security device for providing an optimally effective and eye-safe beam for use as a high-brightness visual countermeasure. The security device has one or more wavelengths of laser or light-emitting diode (LED) light in a continuous or flicker mode in order to provide a glare or flashblinding visual effect. A flicker mode of two wavelengths at opposite ends of the visible spectrum (e.g., red and green) produces heightened disorientation to the adversary. Replacing one or all of the laser light source with LEDs for shorter range applications reduces the overall cost of such a security device.

Enhanced non-lethal visual security device

A self-contained laser illuminator module for primary use in a laser security device which is adapted to produce an optimally effective and eye-safe laser beam for use as a laser visual countermeasure. The laser illuminator module includes control electronics having a high-power laser adapted to generate a preselected wavelength and intensity, a fiber optic means in optical communication with the control electronics, and a means for mounting to a security device having a collimating lens. The present invention generates a laser beam to illuminate or create temporary visual impairment of a potential adversary which results in hesitation, delay, distraction, surrender or retreat.

Self-contained laser illuminator module

A conventional grenade shell launcher contains a laser generator shell thin which directs a blinding flash of light at an adversary to temporarily induce blindness of the adversary carrying out unlawful or dangerous actions such as pointing a weapon at police officers or others. The laser generator shell can be rapidly removed from the launcher, and conventional tear gas grenades or the like can be fired by the grenade launcher at the adversary to induce his surrender. This mode of operation is enabled by detachably coupling a laser triggering transmitter to the launcher. The wide angle light beam directed at the adversary also eliminates the need to accurately aim the device to disable the adversary.

Grenade shell laser system

This invention provides a fixed or portable non-lethal laser security device and method for use of such device as a non-damaging weapon and security system to provides warning and visual impairment upon an intruder. At a predetermined laser wavelength and intensity, this invention utilizes laser light in the visible portion of the wavelength spectrum to create temporary visual impairment, hesitation, delay, distraction, and reductions in combat and functional effectiveness through the effects of glare, flashblind, and psychological impact. The preferred embodiment of the laser security device in the present invention involves the use of laser technology with a remotely operated security system. The device should have a housing structure to protect the internal components from damage or destruction, the ability to produce and transmit visible laser light over various wavelengths and intensities, a power source to drive the laser light, a collimating lens to focus the laser light, and should also be capable of coupling and communicating with an existing security device such as a remote-control closed circuit television camera mounted upon a pan and tilt head. Upon detection of an intruder, the laser security device is capable of visually warning the intruder of the detection. If the intruder further intrudes, the laser security device impairs the intruder's visual capabilities by the effects of flashblind and glare, allowing security forces time to respond to the intrusion and intercept the intruder.

A translational mount for supporting large optical elements, the mount having a stationary support, a mounting ring pivotally attached to the support, a first eccentric ring rotatably mounted within the mounting ring, a second eccentric ring rotatably mounted within the first ring, and an element rotatably mounted within the second ring securing the large optical element thereto. By the appropriate rotational movement of the pair of eccentric rings the optical element is displaced a predetermined amount in both the horizontal and vertical directions.
