A chromogenic composition for detecting spilled blood includes a mixture of an acidified aqueous solution containing reduced FD&C Blue #1 and hydrogen peroxide. The chromogenic composition has a relatively long shelf life and will produce a bright blue visible color when contacting blood, thereby being useful for detecting spilled blood and blood trails from wounded game.

A male threaded fastening member is provided with depressions in at least one or several helix wraps of the thread adjacent the head, the depressions extending inwardly from an edge of the thread at least part way toward a shank of the male fastening member. A U-nut type fastener installation tool, for installing individual U-nut fasteners from a vertically stacked, nested, or collated strip or array of such fasteners disposed within a magazine portion of the tool. The vertically nested, stacked, or collated strip is biased toward the dispensing station or position by means of a spring member, and a wedge-shaped member is adapted to be driven between an endmost one of the nested, stacked, or collated fasteners and the remaining fasteners disposed within the nested, stacked, or collated array of fasteners so as to separate the endmost one of the fasteners from the remaining fasteners of the nested, stacked or collated array of fasteners and drive such endmost fastener onto the edge portion of the support plate or panel. In accordance with further teachings and principles of the present invention, the wedge shaped, fastener separator-driver member may be either pneumatically driven or manually driven whereby the installation tool may comprise either a pneumatically-operable tool or a manually-operable tool.

Pneumatic and manual installation tools for installing U-nut fasteners

A tension indicator for use with a fastener that is formed from a stack of conical washers confined in the stack by a cage having a longitudinally extending slot formed therein provides readily discernible visual indication of tension or loss of tension in the fastener joint. The indicator includes a body configured for receipt over the stack of conical washers. The body can include at least one stanchion extending inwardly of the body from the interior surface to define a stanchion end longitudinally spaced from the body end. At least one detent extends inwardly of the body and is longitudinally spaced from the body end. When the stack of conical washers is placed under tension with the uppermost washer in a planar condition, the stanchion lies adjacent the uppermost washer at the interior region. When the stack of conical washers is under a tension insufficient to urge the uppermost washer into the planar condition, the stanchion abuts the uppermost washer at the interior region and the detent is disengaged from the slot in the cage side portion to prevent the cap from securing to the fastener. The body can include an opening for receipt of a gauge for contacting the interior region of the uppermost washer and for determining a height difference between the outer periphery of the uppermost washer and the interior region of the fastener.

Utility lug nut tension indicator

A U-nut type fastener, for forming a vertically stacked or nested array of such fasteners, comprises an annular hoop member or retainer ring formed upon a lower arm member of the fastener, and an upstanding sleeve member or internally threaded nut is formed upon an upper arm member of the fastener. When the fasteners are stacked or nested in a vertical array, the annular hoop member or retainer ring of an upper one of the fasteners will engage and be seated upon the sleeve or nut member of a lower one of the fasteners. A latch member formed upon a forward end portion of the lower fastener also engages a forward recessed or cut-out region of the upper fastener so as to prevent relative rotation of the fasteners within the stacked or nested array as well as to maintain the forward ends of the fasteners vertically spaced and parallel, and in a similar manner, a dimple is provided upon a rear end portion of the upper arm member of each fastener for engaging an undersurface portion of an upper fastener so as to maintain rear portions of the fasteners vertically spaced and parallel.

A nut (10) for mounting into an opening (18) located in the central part of a panel (14) includes a sleeve (16) and resilient locking trips (44,46) and panel edge securing means 948) extending from opposite sides of the nut. When the nut is positioned within the opening (18) the locking strips (44,46) obstruct removal from the opening. On a bolt (62) being fully received within the sleeve (16) both the strips and edge securing means (48) contactingly engage the panel (14).

An anchor plate (1A) has threaded sleeves (2) for mounting equipment to a sheet metal structure (5). The plate and metal structure (5) are configured to conform to one another on assembly for structure reinforcement. An elastic tongue (10, 16) integral with the plate (1A) carries a rivet (9) which contacts the structure (5) during assembly and the two in predetermined orientation during welding of the rivet (9) to the structure.

The present invention discloses new polymers which can assume an accordion-like conformation of the backbone. These polymers are prepared by the copolymerization of two difuntional, chemically precoupled precursors to chromophoric units. The resulting polymers have a head-to-head, tail-to-tail topology (a syndioregic arrangement of rigid units along the polymer backbone), and the molecular units are designed to fold into an 'accordion' conformation. This useful microstructure (a three-dimensional conformation) forms spontaneously (self-assembles); or, it can be brought about by field-assisted processing. Films and fibers of these polymers have useful second-order nonlinear optical properties, and may be used for the modulation and switching of optical communications signals.

Accordion-like polymers for nonlinear applications

Processible chromophoric polymers having nonlinear optical properties and wherein the chromophore is present in and is a part of the polymer backbone, including substantially all of the monomer or repeat units, with the dipole moments pointing in the same direction (head-to-tail) along the polymer backbone. Such polymers include phenylene, phenylene vinylene, stilbenylene, phenyl piperdine, and coumarin polymers.
