A goggle comprising a lens, a frame, a lens-retention mechanism and an adjustment mechanism wherein the lenses can be selectively moved relative to the frame to at least two different positions defining substantially different levels of air flow between the lenses and frame while maintaining the lenses in front of a user's eyes, and retained at each position. In certain,embodiments, one position is defined by substantially all of the lens periphery contacting the frame to substantially form a seal. The adjustment and lens-retention mechanisms may be the same mechanism.

A goggle comprising a single-eye lenses, a frame, a lens-retention mechanism and an adjustment mechanism wherein the single-eye lenses can be selectively moved relative to the frame to at least two different positions defining substantially different levels of air flow between the single-eye lenses and frame while maintaining the single-eye lenses in front of a user's eyes, and retained at each position. In certain embodiments, one position is defined by substantially all of the single-eye lenses periphery contacting the frame to substantially form a seal. Other positions are defined by substantially all of the lens periphery not contacting the frame wherein ambient air is allowed to flow uninhibited across the inside surface of the single-eye lenses. In certain embodiments, the lens-retention mechanism comprises a post and detent, while the adjustment mechanism comprises various mechanisms, for example a rack and pinion, a lever, or a rack and pawl that biases the single-eye lenses to one of the other positions. The adjustment and lens-retention mechanisms may be the same mechanism.

A goggle comprising a lens, a frame and a vent cover including an attachment component and a retention component, wherein the vent cover can be selectively moved relative to the frame to at least two different positions defining substantially different levels of airflow through frame vents, and retained at each position. In certain embodiments, one position is defined by substantially all of the peripheral-contact surface of the vent cover contacting the frame wherein a first level of airflow can be either substantially non-zero or substantially zero. Other positions are defined by substantially all of the peripheral-contact surface not contacting the frame wherein outside air is allowed to flow across the inside surface of the lens. In certain embodiments, the attachment component comprises a tongue that is inserted into a vent-cover attachment hole in the frame, and the retention component comprises a retention post insertable into vent-cover retention holes in the frame and guide posts inserted into guide slots in the frame. The attachment component and retention component may be the same component.

The retaining post has a distal portion that has a portion with a greater cross section than the remainder of the retaining post. The retaining post may be fastened to a helmet brim by a screw type fastener. The portion having a greater cross section may be a resilient serrated washer secured to an end of the retaining post. The system further comprises a strap is provided with a first end that is attachable to a goggle and a second end with an opening therein. The opening is sized to pass interferingly over the greater cross section portion of the distal portion of the retaining post.

Apparatus and method relating to a quick attachment and release goggle mounting system

System and methods for mounting a goggle to a helmet. The systems and methods comprise a bracket body, with a retaining post that extends in a first direction, and a mounting bracket the extends in a second direction. The mounting bracket includes a fastener for securing the brim of a helmet in a slot formed in the mounting bracket. The retaining post has a distal portion that has a portion with a greater cross section than the remainder of the retaining post. The mounting bracket extends in a second direction. A strap is provided with a first end that is attachable to a goggle and a second end with an opening therein. The opening is sized to pass interferingly over the portion of the distal portion of the retaining post with the greater cross section.

An improved goggle system includes a goggle housing surroundably supporting one or two lenses, and further includes a hinged strap attachment member which is pivotally engaged to the goggle housing forward of the rearward most extent of the side lens or lenses. The hinged strap attachment member has a small shield member disposed generally toward the axis of pivot to protect the space between the hinge and the goggle, and also to provide a smooth interfit with the goggle when the hinge is displaced back toward the head of the wearer, as when the goggle is used without a helmet or other structure which would tend to pull outwardly rather than back against the head of the user. The hinges have sufficient flexibility matched with respect to sufficient pin length to enable the hinges to be rapidly and easily removed from the goggle, so that the goggle could be removed from the helmet or other support system when the goggles are needed elsewhere. An integrated, angled strap support post is provided on and integral with the goggle housing, which would normally lie underneath the hinge when the hinge is in place, to enable the user to quickly insert another strap when needed.

A non-fogging goggles includes a double lens that consists of a pair of two spaced-apart lenses that have an air interstice therebetween and in which the inner surface of the outer lens is coated with a metal film. The metal coating is preferably made of gold and is vacuum-deposited on the outer lens. The body heat radiated by the user is reflected on the metal film and reduces the temperature differential between the inner lens and the area enclosed by the goggles, thereby preventing fogging of the inner lens. The radiated heat will also contribute in maintaining the temperature of the lens of any corrective eyeglasses worn under the goggles.

A mechanism forming the hinges between an eyeglass frame and the lateral temple bars which allows for the rapid adjustment of the vertical alignment of the lens frame in relation to the horizontal axes of the temple pieces. The forward end of each temple piece is split into a stationary half and a sliding half. Each half terminates into a pin or ball which cooperates with a bearing at the edge of the lens frame to form a hinge allowing each temple piece to be folded against the frame. The sliding halves can be moved along the axes of the temple pieces independently from the stationary ones to tilt the hinging axis so as to change the position of the lens plane in relation to the temple pieces.
