In combination, vertically percussive vibration and non-symmetrical forces are applied to a patient. The non-symmetrical forces may be generated by a variety of unevenly applied weights that are supported at appropriate body locations in a manner that upsets normal body load symmetry. The non-symmetrical forces in combination with vertically percussive vibrations induce neuromusculoskeletal proprioceptive re-education and development within a living body to correct musculo-skeletal disorders including but not limited to scoliosis. A special posture modifying chair and head-orienting glasses may be used instead of or in addition to unevenly applied weights. An additional force concentrating treatment apparatus is also presented.

Transgenic lignocellulosic plants are provided according to embodiments of the present invention, the transgenic plants transformed with an expression cassette encoding a protein operably linked to a signal peptide which targets the protein to a cell wall of the transgenic plant, where at least 5% of the total amino acid residues of the protein are tyrosine, lysine, serine, threonine or cysteine. Methods of increasing lignin-protein bonds in a lignocellulosic plant are provided according to embodiments of the present invention which include expressing a recombinant nucleic acid in a lignocellulosic plant, the recombinant nucleic acid encoding a protein operably linked to a signal peptide which targets the protein to the cell wall of a plant, where at least 5% of the total amino acid residues of the protein are tyrosine, lysine, serine, threonine or cysteine.

Compositions and methods relating to transgenic plants and cellulosic ethanol production

A wedge-shaped multiple drop traction (MDT) apparatus percussively moves at low frequencies and through displacement great enough to induce discontinuous displacement between adjacent cervical vertebrae. The MDT rests on a fixed surface beneath a patient's shoulders. A head traction applicator applies a traction force to a patient's head, and preferably a cushion is provided under the patient's head. The MDT has a motive power source mounted on a static base plate. The motive power source turns an eccentric shaft carrying bearings thereupon, and these bearings are coupled through contact pads to a vibrating plate that is pivotal with respect to the static base plate. Cushions couple the vibrating plate to the patient's back, and yet leave the spinal column unsupported and also displaced from direct contact with the vibrating plate. Additional synergy is obtained with smaller amplitude vibration therapy applied simultaneously to the cervical vertebrae region.

A preferred embodiment of the access system includes a sealable vessel for housing a container to be accessed, a remotely operated container valve actuator within the vessel, and a tapping assembly positioned within the containment vessel for accessing the contents of a target container. One or more fluid seals may be made with access mechanisms and the target container. An access mechanism capable of inserting a dip tube into the container to facilitate liquid removal.

A control system comprises a utility power line; a first meter, a first generator, a second meter and a programmable logic controller. The utility power line provides power. The first meter is positioned to measure power provided by a utility company via the utility power line. The first generator generates additional power. The second meter is positioned to measure power generated by the first generator. The programmable logic controller is in communication with the first meter and the second meter to receive input information. The programmable logic controller is also in communication with the first generator to selectively control the first generator in response to the input information. The programmable logic controller controls the first generator to keep power provided by the utility company via the utility power line below a first amount at a first time. The programmable logic controller also controls load bearing equipment that consumes the power provided via the utility power line and from the first generator. A process of managing power usage of a plant comprises receiving energy pulses; determining actual kWh being delivered by a utility company, during a demand interval; comparing the actual kWh to a preset kWh amount to determine whether actual kWh is greater than the preset kWh amount; and, if the actual kWh is greater than the preset kWh amount, then reducing the amount of power consumed by load bearing equipment. Also, if the actual kWh is greater than the preset kWh amount, then the process increases power generated a generator.

Power control systems and processes

A throttle control system in a first position allows movement of an actuator arm by a trigger to move a cable connected to an engine such that the engine may operate between idle and full speed. In a second position, the actuator arm rests against a stationary cam so that the engine operates at a predetermined speed irrespective of the position of the trigger.

An assembly (10) for connection between a steering wheel (12) and a steerable member (14) includes a clutch mechanism (28) operatively connected to the steering wheel (12) and a drive mechanism (30) connected between the clutch mechanism (28) and a push pull cable (22). The push pull cable (22) is in turn connected to the steerable member (14). The clutch mechanism (28) prevents torsional forces from the steerable member (14) to be transmitted to the steering wheel (12). The clutch mechanism (28) includes a driving dog (38) connected to the steering wheel shaft (18) and a pinion member (40) connected to the drive mechanism (30). The driving dog (38) includes three radially extending legs (44, 45, 46) and the pinion member (40) includes arcuate arms (64, 65, 66) extending therebetween. Rollers (84-89) are biased by springs (96-98) to be wedged between the arms (64, 65, 66) and housing (32), and are released only upon rotation of the legs (44, 45, 46).

No feedback steering system

A boat steering assembly (10) having a substantially circular rotary gear (12) engaging an output gear such that the leverage is varied between the output gear (16, 16') and the steering wheel (32). The steering wheel (32) has a shaft gear (28) engaging in idler gear (22) which eccentrically rotates the circular gear (12) about the first axis (14). The eccentrically rotating circular gear (12) engages the output gear (16, 16') having a partially sinusoidal profile thereby automatically varying the distance (i.e., leverage) between the first axis (14) and a point of contact (52) between the circular (12) and output (16, 16') gears.

A universal joint for use in an automobile tilt wheel assembly includes a first (12) and second (28) shaft. The end of the first shaft (12) includes a pin (20) extending on opposite sides of the first shaft (12). A pair of caps (22) having a circular outer periphery are rotatably disposed on the pin (20). Two socket member halves (34) interconnect the first shaft (12) and the second shaft (28). The socket members (34) define a circular pocket (36) for receiving the first end of the first shaft (12). The socket members (34) mate in a plane containing the axis of the pin (20). The socket members (34) define an outwardly flared recess (40, 41) to accommodate the sides (17) of the first shaft (12) during rotational movement of the cap members (22) in the circular pocket (36) and to accommodate movement of the first shaft (12) about the axis of the pin ( 20).

Tilt wheel universal

The present invention is directed to aqueous phenol formaldehyde resoles that have particular application in manufacturing phenolic foam insulation. The resoles are essentially phenol formaldehyde condensation polymers having molar ratios of formaldehyde to phenol of from about 1.7:1 to 2.3:1, preferably from 1.75:1 to 2.25:1 and most preferably about 2:1. The resoles have a weight average molecular weight greater than 800 and preferably from 950-1500. The resoles also have a number average molecular weight greater than 350 and preferably from about 400 to about 600 and a dispersivity greater than about 1.7, preferably from 1.8 to 2.6. Phenol formaldehyde resoles having these characteristics are processable into phenolic foams having a low k value and having other physical characteristics which make the phenolic foam especially useful as an insulation material. The present invention is also directed to foamable phenolic resole compositions prepared from the phenolic resoles and phenolic foams prepared from the compositions.

The present invention is directed to a method of preparing a phenolic foam that has cell walls which are substantially free of perforations. The method comprises using certain anhydrous aryl sulfonic acids as the foaming and curing catalysts. The useful anhydrous aryl sulfonic acids are those which have a pKa of less than about 2.0 and which change the compatibility of the phenolic resole with water. The preferred anhydrous aryl sulfonic acid is a combination of toluene sulfonic acid and xylene sulfonic acid. The invention is also directed to a phenolic foam having cell walls which are substantially free of perforations and to foamable phenolic resole compositions for preparing the phenolic foam.
