A fibre optic connector of the watch jewel type is provided with a transparent window adjacent the fibre end whereby the fibre is protected from dirt or damage. The window may be provided with a light guiding portion in alignment with the fibre.

Optical fibre termination

An optical fiber connector of the watch bearing jewel type. To prevent 'growing out' of a fiber end to which the connector is terminated, a thin protective window is placed against the bearing jewel and supported by a fiber stub mounted in a second watch bearing jewel. The fiber and the fiber stub are optically coupled via the window.

Fiber optic connector

An optical fiber splice is formed by means of a pair of watch jewels concentrically aligned within a cylindrical ferrule. The plastic is stripped back from a pair of fibers to expose their cores and each core is inserted into one of the jewels for precise alignment.

Optical fiber splice

A coupling arrangement for mating electrical or optical connector subassemblies in which opposing coupling members are secured by a bayonet arrangement about their outer perimeters. Resilient (spring) fingers on at least one coupling member engage bayonet key-ways about the opposite member outer surface. The key-way and finger interface at the locked position is along at least one chamfered surface to permit the resilient fingers to deflect radially outwardly and 'ride out' of the locked position to allow connector separation in response to excessive cable tension.

Bayonet connector coupling arrangement

An optical fiber termination in which a plastic clad optical fiber is pushed into a heated ferrule containing a pierced watch bearing jewel so as to force the bare fiber through the aperture in the jewel. The protruding fiber end is then fused and polished flush with the jewel whereby the fiber end is centered within the jewel aperture.
