Nutritional compositions and methods for promoting cognitive development

The present disclosure relates to a lipid source for nutritional compositions, comprising an enriched lipid fraction which comprises structured fat globules. The enriched lipid fraction provides fat globules having a desired size and fatty acid composition and may be stabilized by components such as phospholipids, cholesterol, milk-fat globule membrane protein and combinations thereof. Additionally, the disclosure relates to methods of supporting lipid digestion in a pediatric subject by providing a nutritional composition comprising an enriched lipid fraction having structured fat globules that are more accessible to lipases. The chemical composition, size and structure of the fat globules may improve digestion. The disclosed nutritional compositions may provide additive and or/synergistic beneficial health effects.

The disclosure relates to a measuring device for a granulated product, including a top component comprising a leveling component and a clump-breaking component and a bottom component comprising a scoop and a handle. The measuring device allows a user to remove excess product from the scoop by moving the leveling component along the opening of the scoop. Further, the clump-breaking component serves to break the clump of product that forms in the scoop upon dispensing the product from the measuring device into a receptacle, which may contain a liquid. Breaking the clump of product improves the dissolution of the product into a liquid.

In particular embodiments, the present disclosure provides a process for isolating a milk protein, such as lactoferrin, from a milk source comprising establishing an expanded bed adsorption column comprising a particulate matrix, applying a milk source to the matrix, and eluting the lactoferrin from the matrix with an elution buffer comprising about 0.3 to about 2.0 M sodium chloride.

The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for delivering nutrients to subjects requiring small-volume nutritional support, such as preterm infants. The compositions may comprise an emulsion of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA). The nutritional compositions are useful, for example, in correcting nutritional deficiencies by increasing a subject's intake of nutrients, such as &#x3c9;-3 or &#x3c9;-6 long-chain polyunsaturated acids. The nutritional compositions are suitable for enteral delivery as a nutritional supplement or for oral delivery as a human milk or infant formula fortifier.

The present invention is directed to a processing method and a selection of ingredients that will retain TGF-&#x3b2; levels, bioactivity, and/or bioavailability in a liquid nutritional product. The method involves selecting one or more protein ingredients that have been subjected to a heat load comprising medium-heat or less; combining the protein ingredients with other components of the liquid nutritional product to form a slurry; subjecting the slurry to a pressure of from about 2500 psi to about 3500 psi at a temperature of from about 55&#xb0; C. to about 65&#xb0; C. for about 5 to 20 seconds; subjecting the slurry to a temperature of about 135 to 150&#xb0; C. for about 1.5 to 15 seconds; and cooling the slurry to a temperature of less than about 8&#xb0; C. over about 30 minutes or less.

Methods for preserving endogenous TGF-&#x3b2;

An ingestible material delivery device for sequentially delivering first and second ingestible materials to a user through a feeding tube provides a tube body having first and second chambers separated by a seal. A puncture tool is disposed in the second chamber extending toward the seal. The puncture tool engages and disrupts the seal when the second chamber is compressed. In some embodiments, the second chamber includes a plurality of interconnected bellows operable for axial compression of the second chamber. Another embodiment of a delivery device provides a tube body having first and second chambers with exit nozzles extending in opposite flow directions. A method of sequentially delivering first and second ingestible materials to a user through a feeding tube is also provided.

Compressible multi-chamber feeding tube delivery device and methods

A plunger-driven delivery device for use with a feeding tube for delivering an ingestible material to a user is provided. The delivery device includes a device body having a first chamber, a second chamber and an exit orifice through which the ingestible material is delivered to the feeding tube. A first plunger is disposed in the first chamber, and a second plunger is disposed in the second chamber. The delivery device can be provided with the ingestible material disposed in the first chamber and a flushing liquid disposed in the second chamber. The delivery device is operable to provide sequential delivery first of the ingestible material and then the flushing liquid into the feeding tube. In some embodiments, a mechanical interlock is disposed between the first and second plungers to prevent use of the second plunger until the first plunger has been depressed. In additional embodiments, a first passage is defined between the first chamber and the exit orifice and a second passage is defined between the second chamber and the exit orifice. The second passage has a longer passage length than the first passage, allowing delivery of the ingestible material into the feeding tube before the flushing liquid is ejected from the delivery device. A method of delivering an ingestible material to a user through a feeding tube is also provided.
