A rotary surgical assembly is disclosed. The assembly has a plurality of cutting teeth (), a hollow dome () and a spindle (). The hollow dome has a pole having a pole axis X, and a cutting surface featuring some of the cutting teeth. The cutting surface includes a curved part () and a substantially flat part () proximal the pole with an aperture () extending therethrough. The spindle has a proximal end () and a distal end () including a spindle mounting element (). The spindle mounting element is secured to the dome beneath the substantially flat part of the cutting surface. The spindle mounting element has a cutting tooth () that extends distally through the cutting surface's aperture to form one of the said plurality of cutting teeth. A kit, and methods of manufacturing the rotary surgical assembly are described also.

Rotary surgical instrument assembly

An orthopaedic surgical instrument assembly includes a hemispherical component having a convex outer surface extending from a circular rim to an apex point, and a plurality of cutting teeth extending outwardly from the outer surface between the circular rim and the apex point. Each cutting tooth of the plurality of cutting teeth includes an elongated cutting edge that is positioned on an arced imaginary line of a plurality of arced imaginary lines extending outwardly from the apex point of the hemispherical component. A method of manufacturing an orthopaedic surgical instrument assembly is also disclosed.

Orthopaedic surgical instrument assembly for reaming a patient's acetabulum

A surgical instrument assembly includes a metallic hemispherical component and a driver component removably coupled to the hemispherical component. The metallic hemispherical component has a convex outer surface configured to engage a patient's natural acetabulum, a concave inner surface positioned opposite the outer surface and defining a cavity in the hemispherical component, a plurality of cutting teeth extending outwardly from the outer surface, and a plurality of apertures defined in the inner surface. The driver component has a shank and a plurality of ribs secured to, and extending outwardly from, the shank. Each rib has a tab that is received in a corresponding aperture of the hemispherical component to secure the driver component to the hemispherical component.

An orthopaedic surgical instrument system for use in preparing a patient's bone is disclosed. The surgical instrument includes a cutting guide block configured to be secured to a surgically-prepared surface of the patient's bone, and a cutting tool to be used in conjunction with the cutting guide block to resect a section of the patient's bone. Surgical cutting instruments and methods of use are described. The surgical cutting instrument () comprises an instrument body () with a first attachment mechanism () at a distal end. A cutter () has a central core (), a plurality of cutting formations () and a plurality of lobes () extending from the central core. The central core has side walls () which define an entirely open mouth and the side walls include a second attachment mechanism () which can interact with the first attachment mechanism to releasably attach the cutter to the distal end of the instrument body. At least one cutting formation () is provided on an end outer face () of the cutter opposite the entirely open mouth.

Orthopaedic surgical instrument system and method for surgically preparing a patients bone

A controlled force surgical implant impaction instrument is provided which includes a striking assembly, a retaining pin, and an actuator component. The striking assembly is configured to impact a surgical implant. The retaining pin is moveable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the retaining pin inhibits distal movement of the striking assembly. In the second position, the retaining pin does not inhibit distal movement of the striking assembly. The actuator component includes a reloading channel. The actuator component is movable between a third position and a fourth position. In the third position, the retaining pin is in the first position and the retaining pin cannot be forced along the reloading channel. In the fourth position, the striking assembly can be used to move the retaining pin along the reloading channel.

Controlled force surgical implant impaction instrument

A keel punch impactor comprises a main body having an interior bore. A locking shaft is positioned in the interior bore of the main body, the locking shaft defining a shaft axis. An actuator is in contact with the locking shaft. The actuator is moveable between a first position and a second position. The position of the locking shaft is moved within the interior bore of the main body upon movement of the actuator. In particular, the locking shaft is moved such that the shaft axis is offset when the actuator is moved from the first position to the second position. When the shaft is moved, a head on the shaft is moved into or out of alignment with a boss extending from the main body of the keel punch impactor.
