Electromagnetic coupler registration and mating

Component-less termination for electromagnetic couplers used in high speed/frequency differential signaling is described. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a first signal line and a second signal line forming a differential pair, a first electromagnetic coupler to provide sampled electromagnetic signals from the first signal line, and a second electromagnetic coupler to provide sampled electromagnetic signals from the second signal line, wherein the first electromagnetic coupler is far end short circuited and wherein the second electromagnetic coupler is far end open circuited. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Component-less termination for electromagnetic couplers used in high speed/frequency differential signaling

According to some embodiments, a signal line associated with a printed circuit board is provided. In addition, a conductive trace is electrically connected to a portion of the signal line. At least a portion of the conductive trace may be offset from the signal line, and a dielectric layer may be provided between the signal line and the conductive trace to enhance electromagnetic coupling between them. As a result a hybrid resistance and electromagnetic coupling probe may be provided.

Electromagnetic coupler with direct current signal detection

In some embodiments, a first conducting line, having a characteristic impedance, connects to a digital device while a second conducting line, also having a characteristic impedance, connects to another digital device. An impedance pathway connects the two conducting lines and has an impedance of at least one-third of the first conducting line's characteristic impedance and of at least one-third of the second conducting line's characteristic impedances. Interconnecting of digital devices

A connector is configured for insertion and removal of a digital device. The connector has contacts arranged to make electrical connection to conductors on the digital device while the digital device is inserted in the connector. A first electromagnetic coupler is connected to at least one of the contacts of the connector. The electromagnetic coupler is configured for electromagnetic coupling at an interface to a second electromagnetic coupler that is connected to a communication bus.

A compact electromagnetic coupler for use with digital transmission system is described. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a first transmission structure, including a portion having a geometry. A second transmission structure having the geometry and positioned proximate the portion of the first transmission line structure having the geometry to form a compact electromagnetic coupler with the first transmission structure a geometry of the electromagnetic coupler to enable placement within a footprint of a standard card connector. The compact electromagnetic coupler so formed enables reconstruction of the logical state and timing of a signal transmitted along the first transmission structure.
