A technique facilitates connection of tubulars along a tubing string via a linear motion. A first tubular is provided with a first connector end having a non-circular transverse cross-section, and a second tubular is provided with a second connector end having a corresponding non-circular transverse cross-section. The non-circular cross-section and the corresponding non-circular cross-section are designed to matingly engage when the first and second tubulars are moved linearly toward each other to form a tubing string. A seal is provided to seal the first connector end with the second connector end once linearly engaged. A locking mechanism may be employed to linearly lock the first connector end with the second connector end.

Non-threaded tubular connection

A technique facilitates creation of and production from a multilateral well. A lateral junction is deployed downhole to a lateral bore via a conveyance, such as a coiled tubing conveyance. The lateral junction comprises a main bore tubular and a lateral bore tubular which are pivotably joined via a pivotable coupling. The pivotable coupling enables pivoting of the lateral bore tubular outwardly through a lateral opening of the main bore tubular. The construction of the lateral junction enables establishment of a lateral junction, such as a TAML Level 3 or TAML Level 4 junction, in a single trip downhole.

Lateral junction for use in a well

An instrument for the mechanical removal of corrosive buildup, deposits or scale from within a wellbore. A tubing-conveyed scraping blade and/or other abrading devices () has a collapsible maximum outer diameter by using a multi-bar mechanism () to ensure physical contact with corrosive buildup, deposits or scale on surfaces of a surrounding wellbore, oil and gas tubular, or drilling/production marine riser (and, in particular, inner surfaces thereof). The multi-bar mechanism allows for a wide range of motion irrespective of the direction of loading and variable maximum outer diameter to clean corrosive buildup, deposits or scale from tubular goods with unknown configurations and/or dimensions.

An apparatus that is usable with a well includes a body, a blocking member, a sensor, a radially expandable element and a controller. The body includes a longitudinal passageway that extends through the body, and the blocking member is disposed in the passageway to check fluid from flowing in a predefined direction through the passageway. The sensor is disposed on the body to sense a property of an environment of the string as the object is being communicated through the passageway; the radially expandable element is disposed on the body; and the controller is disposed on the body to selectively autonomously control the expandable element to land the body in a downhole restriction in response to the sensing.

Autonomous untethered well object having an axial through-hole

A technique facilitates latching of a tool in a desired alignment within a tubing string. The tubing string comprises a latching section designed to latch the tool in a specific orientation. The latching section comprises a plurality of mounting regions designed to receive a plurality of profile inserts which are releasably engaged and interchangeable. The profile inserts may be arranged to create a key profile for engagement with a corresponding key associated with the tool. However, the profile inserts may be interchanged to change the key profile. Additionally, different combinations of profile inserts may be used to create different key profiles from one latching section to the next in tubing strings with more than one latching section.

Alignment assembly

An assembly () for the illumination of a wellbore, pipeline, tank, vessel or other environment wherein light is diffused and transmitted through an optically transparent material and projected in and around a field of view of a camera lens (). A light source is disposed within a cavity at the proximal end () of a cylindrical shaped, optically transparent material. Light from the source is received into the transparent material, diffused, and transmitted to the distal end of the light tube (), where it is projected in front of and around a field of view of a camera. Control of light intensity may be variable, pre-set before operations, or fixed by component design.

Method and apparatus for well bore illumination and inspection

A technique utilizes a Y-block which is coupled with a lateral tubing string and a main tubing string. The Y-block comprises features which facilitate service and/or production operations. In well applications, the Y-block may comprise a pressure housing and a recessed bypass slot disposed along an exterior of the Y-block. A control line is positioned in the recessed bypass slot to facilitate control functions along the lateral tubing string. The recessed bypass slot enables routing of a control line without forming a splice along the control line. In other applications, the Y-block may utilize additional or other features which facilitate the desired operations.

A system includes a tubular string and a hollow ball. The tubular string is adapted to be deployed downhole in a well and includes a seat. An activation ball adapted to be deployed in the well to lodge in the seat. The ball includes an outer shell that forms a spherical surface. The outer shell forms an enclosed volume therein, and the outer shell is formed from a metallic material.

Method and apparatus for a well employing the use of an activation ball

A location and orientation assembly suitable for use in a multi-lateral wellbore may include a coupling portion, an upper muleshoe, a muleshoe spacer and a bottom muleshoe. The bottom muleshoe may connect to the coupling portion through a threaded connection. A method for locating and orienting in a multi-lateral wellbore includes providing a locating and orientation assembly. In the orientation assembly a coupling portion is provided and an upper muleshoe is inserted into the coupling portion. A muleshoe spacer is inserted into the coupling portion so as to matingly contact the upper muleshoe portion. Part of a bottom muleshoe is inserted into the coupling portion so as to matingly contact the muleshoe spacer. The coupling portion is jointed to the bottom muleshoe by a threaded connection.

A downhole isolation tool including a sub, a sleeve disposed in the sub, and a ball seat mandrel coupled to the sleeve, the ball seat mandrel having at least two ball seats axially aligned with at least two throughbores disposed within the ball seat mandrel. A method of isolating a well, the method including running a downhole isolation system into a well, wherein the downhole isolation system includes a first downhole isolation tool, the first downhole isolation tool including a first sub, a first sleeve disposed in the sub, and a first ball seat mandrel coupled to the first sleeve, the first ball seat mandrel having at least two ball seats of a first size axially aligned with at least two throughbores disposed within the first ball seat mandrel, dropping at least two balls of a first size into the well, and seating the at least two balls of the first size in the at least two ball seats of the first ball seat mandrel.

An isolation device for a frac plug, the isolation device including a ball seat having a seating surface and a ball configured to contact the seating surface, wherein a profile of the seating surface corresponds to a profile of the ball. A frac plug including a mandrel having an upper end and a lower end, a sealing element disposed around the mandrel, and a ball seat disposed within a central bore of the mandrel, wherein the ball seat includes a seating surface having a non-linear profile. A method of isolating zones of a production formation, the method including setting a frac plug between a first zone and a second zone, disposing a ball within the frac plug, and seating a ball in a ball seat of the frac plug, the ball seat including a seating surface having a profile that substantially corresponds to the profile of the ball.

High pressure and high temperature ball seat

A downhole tool including a resilient body configured to be disposed on a drill string, the resilient body comprising a plurality of radial blades having an abrasive coating, wherein the radial blades are configured to deflect when inserted into downhole tubing, and wherein the resilient body is configured to allow rotation relative to the drill string. Additionally, a method for cleaning downhole tubing, the method including inserting a resilient scraper disposed on a drill string into the downhole tubing, the resilient scraper including a plurality of radial blades having an abrasive coating. The method further including rotating the drill string, and contacting the resilient scraper to an internal wall of the downhole tubing.

A downhole debris recovery tool including a ported sub coupled to a debris sub, a suction tube disposed in the debris sub, at least one magnet disposed in the debris removal tool, and an annular jet pump sub disposed in the ported sub and fluidly connected to the suction tube. A method of removing debris from a wellbore including the steps of lowering a downhole debris removal tool into the wellbore, flowing a fluid through a bore of an annular jet pump sub, jetting the fluid from the annular jet pump sub into a mixing tube, displacing an initially static fluid in the mixing tube through a diffuser, thereby creating a vacuum effect in a suction tube to draw a debris-laden fluid into the tool, flowing the debris-laden fluid past at least one magnet disposed in a debris housing, and removing the tool from the wellbore is also disclosed.

Further, an isolation valve including a housing, an inner tube disposed coaxially with the housing, and a gate, wherein the gate is configured to selectively close an annular space between the housing and the inner tube is disclosed.
