An electronic device includes an image capture device configured to capture image sensor data in response to initiation of an image capture operation. The electronic device includes one or more processors and a display operable with the one or more processors. The one or more processors select saturated pixels of the image sensor data and determine a gain factor as a function of brightness values of pixels in the image sensor data. The one or more processors increase an intensity value of the saturated pixels by the gain factor to create scaled image sensor data, blur at least some of the scaled image sensor data by convolving a blur kernel with the scaled image sensor data to create altered image sensor data exhibiting a simulated bokeh effect and cause the display to present the altered image sensor data exhibiting the simulated bokeh effect.

Electronic devices and corresponding methods for creating and presenting altered image sensor data simulating a bokeh effect

A device includes a digital camera positioned underneath a display of the device that captures images through the display. When capturing images using the digital camera, light emitted by the display can get into the digital camera, interfering with or corrupting the captured images. Calibration images are displayed on the display and captured by the digital camera to be used to generate an enhanced output image that mitigates the interference from the display. Recalibration images are subsequently captured in response to any of a variety of different trigger events that may cause or indicate a change in the alignment and geometries of the display pixels to the imager pixels. The captured recalibration image is merged with the previously captured calibration image to generate a merged calibration image, which is afterwards used as the captured calibration image.

An electronic device, method and computer program product provide an image capturing device having a lens assembly including a lens and lens housing that supports the lens. The lens housing has an opening that exposes the lens. A planar exterior surface of the electronic device extends across the lens assembly and includes a slit aperture that is smaller than the opening in the lens housing of the image capturing device. The slit aperture directs only a corresponding portion of light from in front of the planar exterior surface through the opening to the lens. The slit aperture enables at least one of: (i) reducing noticeability of the image capturing device; and (ii) use of an adjacent portion of the planar exterior surface for an aesthetic or functional component. An image from the image capturing device is sharpened along a longer dimension of the slit aperture to remove asymmetric blur.

A device includes a digital camera positioned underneath a display of the device that captures images through the display. When capturing images using the digital camera, light emitted by the display can get into the digital camera, interfering with or corrupting the captured images. An enhanced output image is generated from a captured image that mitigates the interference from the display. The enhanced output image is generated, for example, by capturing a different calibration image for each pixel type (e.g., Red, Green, and Blue) included in the display. When an image is subsequently captured, an amount of color emitted by the pixels on the display for the currently displayed image is determined and one or more subtraction images are generated and subtracted from the captured image to mitigate the interference from the display.

A device includes a digital camera positioned underneath a display of the device that captures images through the display. The brightness of the display is controlled when capturing images using the digital camera to reduce interference from light emitted by the display with the captured images. The brightness can be controlled in various manners, such as reducing the brightness of only a camera region of the display that is within the field of view of the camera, reducing the brightness of only an expanded region of the display that includes a camera region of the display and an area surrounding the camera region but less than the entire display, reducing the brightness of the entire display or the brightness of only particular colors of the display, blacking out the camera region of the display, blacking out the expanded region of the display, strobing the display, and so forth.

Mitigating display interference with captured image by controlling display brightness

In aspects of automated polarizer filter positioning, a device includes a polarizer integrated with the device and auto-positioned to filter lighting of a camera scene. The device includes a camera device to capture a digital image of the camera scene using the polarizer at a rotation angle of the polarizer. The device implements an imaging manager to determine an orientation of the device relative to a position of the sun. The imaging manager can also determine the lighting of the camera scene as viewable with the camera device, and position the polarizer at the rotation angle based on the orientation of the device and the lighting of the camera scene to filter the lighting. The imaging manager can then initiate the camera device to capture the digital image of the camera scene with an imager of the camera device at the rotation angle of the polarizer.

Automated polarizer positioning

A method, a system, and a computer program product for managing image quality of an electronic display. The method includes identifying a visual content encoded in a first color space that is to be presented on an electronic display. The method further includes identifying, for the electronic display, a color profile that specifies color tristimulus values for the electronic display that are expressed as a function of temperature. The method further includes determining a current temperature of the electronic display and applying the color profile to the visual content to create a modified visual content for presentation on the electronic display. The method further includes rendering the modified visual content by the electronic display and adjusting, during rendering of the modified visual content, the color tristimulus values of the modified visual content in real-time based on the current temperature.

Managing image quality in a display

In aspects of digital image color space channel blending, a camera device can capture digital images that encompass a three-hundred and sixty degree (360&#xb0;) field of view. An image blending module is implemented to combine the digital images along a seam between the digital images to form a blended image. To combine the digital images, the image blending module can determine mismatched color between the digital images along the seam within an overlap region that overlaps two of the digital images along the seam. The image blending module can then blend the digital images by channel gains in a color space applied to enhance pixels of one of the digital images starting within the overlap region along the seam and blending into the one digital image.

A method, a mobile device, and a computer program product for managing display brightness of a mobile device. The method includes detecting a first temperature value of a mobile device and determining, by a processor, if the first temperature value is greater than a threshold temperature value. In response to determining that the first temperature value is greater than the threshold temperature value, video data is retrieved for several video frames. The method further includes determining if the video data contains a transition from a first video frame to a second video frame that includes a change in light level that is greater than a light level threshold. In response to determining that the video data contains the change in light level, the display is triggered to reduce a first light level associated with the second video frame to a second light level when the second video frame is displayed.

Managing display brightness of a mobile device

In aspects of digital image capture with a polarizer at different rotation angles, a device includes a polarizer that filters light at different polarizations and a first camera captures filtered digital images at different rotation angles of the polarizer. The device also includes a second camera to capture a full light digital image that is unfiltered. The device implements an imaging algorithm to determine a common region in each of the filtered digital images that has a variable brightness in each of the filtered digital images. The imaging algorithm can then determine pixel brightness values of the pixels in the common region of the filtered digital images, select one of the filtered digital images with a lowest pixel brightness value in the common region as an output filtered image, and combine the full light digital image with the output filtered image to generate a final image with modified image brightness.

In implementations of photography environment control, an environment controller is a device that maintains a photography environment map of an environment in which images are captured as photographs. The photography environment map includes locations of fixed light sources that are usable to illuminate a subject for image capture in a region of the environment. The environment controller implements an imaging recommendation module that can determine optimal lighting for the image capture of the subject in the region of the environment. The environment controller can then control the fixed light sources used to adjust ambient lighting conditions of the region in the environment for the optimal lighting and the image capture of the subject. The environment controller can also initiate communication of imaging recommendations to a camera device in the environment for the image capture of the subject.

Photography environment control

In implementations of photography lighting control, a camera device includes a camera to capture an image of a subject in an environment. The camera device implements an image exposure module that can determine ambient lighting conditions of the environment, and discover fixed light sources that are usable to illuminate the subject for image capture in the environment. The image exposure module can determine optimal lighting for the image capture of the subject in the environment, as well as control one or more of the fixed light sources used to adjust the ambient lighting conditions of the environment for the optimal lighting and the image capture of the subject. The image exposure module can then initiate use of the controlled fixed light sources to capture the image of the subject.

Photography lighting control

In aspects of digital image capture with a polarizer at different rotation angles, a device includes a polarizer that filters light at different polarizations and captures digital images using the polarizer. Each of the digital images are captured at one of different rotation angles of the polarizer. The device implements an imaging algorithm to determine a common region in each of the digital images, the common region having a variable brightness in each of the digital images and the common region in a respective digital image being determined based on a standard deviation of brightness for each pixel in the respective digital image. The imaging algorithm can then determine pixel brightness values of the pixels in the common region for each of the digital images, and select one of the captured digital images with a lowest pixel brightness value in the common region as an output image.

In implementations of automated bounce flash, a camera device includes a camera to capture an image of a subject in an environment, and includes a flash device to illuminate the subject for image capture. A memory and processor of the camera device implements an image exposure application to select a surface in the environment from which to bounce light emitted from the flash device toward the subject during the image capture. The image exposure application is also implemented to control a direction of the light emitted from the flash device onto the selected surface during the image capture.

Panchromatic pixels and chromatic pixels are interpolated into color channels per pixel of an output image. First, panchromatic pixels and chromatic pixels are used to generate an intermediate image with panchromatic channel, and color channels per pixel. At least three color channels of a first color space can be converted to a first panchromatic light intensity channel in a second color space and at least two first chrominance channels in the second color space based on a detected correlated color temperature. A ratio per pixel between the first panchromatic light intensity channel in the second color space and a second panchromatic light intensity channel in the second color space can be calculated, where the second panchromatic light intensity channel can be based on a panchromatic value per pixel. The ratio can be applied to the at least two first chrominance channels per pixel to determine pixel values in at least two second chrominance channels of the second color space. Channels per pixel can be converted from the second color space including the at least two second chrominance channels and the second panchromatic light intensity channel to a color space.
