According to one aspect of the present disclosure a system identifies a service level agreement between an originator of a network flow, and service level objectives associated with the agreement. The system generates and inserts one or more packet contracts into one or more packets in a data flow, with each packet contract specifying instructions that nodes that process the packet to generate accounting data, enabling measurement of the service level objectives, which is stored with the packet. Packet contract generation occurs by retrieving one or more packet contract templates associated with the service level agreement and generates an agreement based on the template. The accounting data can be carried with the packet to an egress node which can use the accounting data to determine whether the customer service levels are being met.

Adaptive service level accounting system

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a system is provided which allows a network service provider to address providing service assurances to comply with each service level agreement (SLA) agreed to with customers. A translation system accesses one or more network service agreements and parses the one or more network service agreements into a processing format. The system then determines which network services are specified by the network service agreement, and determines service level agreements for each service. The translation system then generates one or more service level objectives for each service level agreement and one or more service level values for each service level objective. One or more metrics are then selected to be associated with each value to be measured to determine compliance with the service level agreement. The system then stores each of the service level agreements, objectives, values and metrics as objects.

An approach to affinity-based network configuration is disclosed. In one approach, an apparatus for configuring a network based on affinity is described. The apparatus includes a set of business rules describing the order of importance of a plurality applications, an affinity analysis module that receives the set of business rules and a plurality of application requests and detects affinities between the application requests and an infrastructure of the network based on the set of business rules, an affinity computation module coupled to the affinity analysis module that determines a new network configuration based on the detected affinities, and a network management module that configures the network based on the new network configuration.

Method and apparatus for model-driven, affinity-based, network functions

Embodiments are provided to perform affinity analysis and management of network services. The embodiments use model-driven engineering to capture more generic affinity-based relationships, including between applications and endpoints and between customers and the network infrastructure. In an embodiment method, upon receiving at a network component a request for an application, affinity analysis is performed on the application. A network configuration is then determined according to results of the affinity analysis. The affinity analysis is performed and the network configuration is determined according to business rules defining application and customer priorities. The business rules are defined using a single information model and implemented using at least one data model. A method for management entity operations includes parsing a request to collect data for an entity in a communications system, the parsing to produce a parsed request and dependency information related to the request, and generating sets of model elements in accordance with context tokens and content tokens derived from the parsed request, the content tokens including extrinsic metadata and intrinsic metadata of the parsed request. The method also includes generating a platform-neutral description of results of the request from an optimized graph derived from the sets of model elements, executing the request to collect the data as requested, and storing the data as collected.

As an example, an existing set of load-balancing policies can be dynamically modified based on OAMP data generated by load balancers and/or network elements. As another example, new load-balancing policies can be dynamically created based on the OAMP data. As yet another example, an updated set of load-balancing policies can be selected from a pool of policies based on OAMP data. Messaging policies can be dynamically updated based on operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning (OAMP) data generated by data plane entities of a messaging network. For example existing messaging policies may be dynamically modified based on OAMP data generated by message brokers and/or network elements (e.g., queues).
