An air revitalization system may include a humidity control device configured to remove water vapor from air within a pressurized enclosed volume. The system may further include an inlet duct configured to transport the air from the pressurized enclosed volume to the humidity control device. The system may also include an outlet duct configured to transport the air from the humidity control device to the pressurized enclosed volume. The system may include a sublimator configured to cool the air within the pressurized enclosed volume while generating additional water vapor. The system may further include a vacuum vent duct configured to transport the water vapor from the humidity control device and the additional water vapor from the sublimator to an exterior of the pressurized enclosed volume.

Systems and methods for air revitalization

A passenger cabin air distribution system includes a ventilation system and an ejector-diffuser. The ventilation system is operable to provide a conditioned air. The ejector-diffuser is positioned to receive a flow of the conditioned air from the ventilation system. The ejector-diffuser includes an induction unit and a diffuser section. The induction unit includes a secondary inlet in communication with a cabin air from a passenger cabin and is configured to mix the flow of the conditioned air with an induced flow of the cabin air into a mixed air. The diffuser section includes a discharge to eject the mixed air to the passenger cabin. The diffuser section is shaped to provide for efficient mixing with low backpressure in order to maintain the low motive pressure in the nozzle.

A temperature control system may include a heat exchanger configured to cool air within a pressurized enclosed crew cabin when the air is circulated across the heat exchanger and coolant is circulated through the heat exchanger. The system may further include a sublimator configured to cool the coolant. The system may also include a primary coolant line configured to transport the coolant from the sublimator through the heat exchanger.

An aircraft fuselage sidewall may include an aircraft sidewall volume and a flow controller. The aircraft sidewall volume may be delineated by an aircraft skin forming an outboard boundary of the aircraft sidewall volume, a passenger cabin sidewall forming an inboard boundary of the aircraft sidewall volume and fuselage frame structures forming axial boundaries of the aircraft sidewall volume. The flow controller may be positioned at a portion of the aircraft sidewall volume to selectably control air flow through the aircraft sidewall volume.

Method and apparatus for air flow control in an aircraft sidewall volume

A method for calculating an aircraft fuselage leakage calculation of an aircraft is provided. The method comprises determining a calculation period for an aircraft fuselage leakage value and inputting the calculation period into a computer to obtain a first input data. The method further comprises obtaining one or more outside air inflow rates and inputting the one or more outside air inflow rates into the computer to obtain a second input data. The method further comprises obtaining one or more air outflow rates and inputting the one or more air outflow rates into the computer to obtain a third input data. The method further comprises accumulating the first input data, the second input data, and the third input data in the computer to obtain an accumulated input data. The method further comprises processing the accumulated input data with a process software to obtain an output data in the form of a calculated aircraft fuselage leakage value. The method further comprises sending the output data to a data file. The method further comprises using the calculated aircraft fuselage leakage value to calculate an aircraft fuel savings potential value.

Method for reducing outside air inflow required for aircraft cabin air quality

Systems and methods for providing airflow in an aerospace vehicle are disclosed. A system in accordance with one embodiment includes an aerospace vehicle having an interior volume with a first portion and a second portion. The system can further include an external air supply device positioned to provide supply air to the interior volume at a variable supply flow rate and a recirculation fan configured to move air positioned within the interior volume between the first portion of the interior volume and the second portion of the interior volume. The system can still further include a controller operably coupled to the recirculation fan and configured to vary a rotation speed of the recirculation fan. Variations in the rotation speed of the recirculation fan can be associated with variations in a recirculation flow rate. In selected embodiments, the system can include sensors and/or data link devices operably coupled to the controller.

Systems and methods for providing airflow in an aerospace vehicle

A method for reducing outside air inflow required for aircraft passenger cabin air quality is provided. The method determines when passenger cabin air quality is the driving outside air inflow requirement and reduces the outside air inflow to that required for passenger cabin air quality. In one embodiment, there is provided a method for reducing outside air inflow required for aircraft passenger cabin air quality using a fixed minimum outflow valve open area setpoint. In another embodiment, there is provided a method for reducing outside air inflow required for aircraft passenger cabin air quality using calculations that are repeated at regular intervals and using a mathematical function relating an outside air inflow requirement to a set of independent variables. In another embodiment, there is provided a method for calculating an aircraft fuselage leakage value and communicating the fuselage leakage value and an increase in a fuel consumption rate due to an additional amount of outside air inflow required to replenish air loss due to fuselage leakage, due to aerodynamic drag, and due to reduced thrust recovery.

Methods, environmental control systems, and computer program products are provided for controlling an internal environment of a pressurized compartment of a vehicle. In one aspect, the pressurized compartment includes first and second exit valves for selectively allowing gas to exit the pressurized compartment. The first and second exit valves are located, respectively, in spaced apart portions of the pressurized compartment. The pressurized compartment also includes first and second systems that are located, respectively, in the spaced apart portions of the pressurized compartment. Flow rates of gases in the first and second systems are determined and at least one of the first and second exit valves is controlled in response to the flow rate determinations.
