An intake manifold for an engine includes an air inlet port and a false wall. The air inlet port has an interior surface partially defining a channel. The false wall also partially defines the channel. The false wall is flush with the interior surface. A chamber is defined on an opposing side of the false wall relative to the channel. A gap is defined between outer edges of the false wall and the interior surface. The gap establishes fluid communication between the chamber and the channel. The air inlet port defines an orifice configured to establish fluid communication between a fuel evaporative recovery system and the chamber.

Intake manifold and corresponding fuel system for a vehicle

Methods and systems are provided for modified intake runners including ribs in the direction of airflow. In one example, a system may include an intake manifold adapted to couple to an intake port via an intake runner. Internal to the intake runner, a plurality of negative ribs may be arranged along a direction of air flow on a fa&#xe7;ade of an inner portion.

An intake system of an engine is provided. The intake system may include an intake manifold coupled to a first throttle body and a second throttle body, where the intake manifold is formed from an upper shell and a lower shell. The intake system further includes a vacuum port located in the intake manifold and in an air-flow path downstream of the first throttle body and the second throttle body and upstream of a plurality of intake runners of the intake manifold, the vacuum port including a spigot extending through the upper shell of the intake manifold, and a vacuum passage coupling the vacuum port to a vehicle subsystem.

A vacuum system is provided. The vacuum system includes a vacuum aspirator coupled to a housing of an intake manifold, the vacuum aspirator including an air intake port, a vacuum port, and a manifold port. The vacuum system also includes a manifold vacuum passage and a vacuum reservoir passage traversing the housing of the intake manifold, the manifold vacuum passage coupled to the manifold port and the vacuum reservoir passage coupled to the vacuum port.

Vacuum system and method for operation of a vacuum system

An intake manifold integrated vacuum solenoid comprising a vacuum solenoid integrated into an intake manifold is provided. The solenoid includes a body and a pair of opposed attachment arms extending from the body. The body further includes an atmosphere port and a vacuum port defined by an annular collar. The collar includes at least one peripheral groove in which a sealing member is fitted. A conically-shaped bore is formed through the collar. The manifold includes an inlet into which the collar of the solenoid is fitted. The manifold further includes arm attachment posts to which the arms of the solenoid are attached. The arrangement for attaching the arms to the posts includes spools with each spool having a peripheral groove formed therein. Each spool is attached to its respective arm attachment post by a mechanical fastener. An end of each of the attachment arms is fitted into its respective spool.

Intake manifold integrated vacuum solenoid

Methods and systems are provided for a charge motion control valve mounted within a flow passage in an intake manifold coupled to an engine. In one example design, a control valve comprises a valve plate with a pivot axis mounted in a body coupled to a manifold runner, the plate having a rear portion overhanging the pivot; and a first sealing surface in the manifold runner to receive a surface of the rear portion of the valve plate when fully opened; and a second sealing surface in the body to receive an opposite surface of the rear portion of the valve plate when fully closed. In this way, the valve plate may be adjusted to block a portion of a flow passage within the body to minimize air leakages at a periphery of the passage while redirecting air flow to create swirl motion downstream of the valve plate.

Charge motion control valve

An intake manifold assembly has one or more shells coupled together and coupled to a cover. When the manifold cover, or other exterior surface, is rounded, the manifold does not sit stably on a flat surface when the rounded surface is placed onto the flat surface. The manifold may roll off a table and be damaged. To mitigate such situation, the rounded surface is provided with at least two standoffs extending outwardly from a surface of the cover with distal ends of the standoffs substantially lying in a common plane. The standoffs have a central axis and the standoffs extend outwardly from the surface along the central axis at least as far as any other feature of the intake manifold assembly.

Intake manifold

An engine cover having a feature that macro aligns the engine cover to the engine to quickly orientate the engine cover for correct assembly is provided. The features allow the installer to align the engine cover by touch. The locating lip is a macro feature formed integrally with the engine cover. The system includes an engine cover, a body attached to and extending from the engine cover. The body has an outer surface and an aperture for receiving a mechanical fastener. The aperture is formed through the outer surface. A locating lip extends outwardly from the outer surface. A doghouse feature may be formed on the engine cover. The body may be in the shape of an elongated tower that is attached to and extends from the doghouse feature. The locating lip is defined by a wall. The wall may be a ring-shaped wall or may be a semi-circular wall.

Engine cover assembly feature

An engine cover assembly having an integrally attached captive fastener or part-in-assembly fastener for attachment to an engine is disclosed. The engine cover assembly includes an engine cover having a fastener aperture formed in a recessed area thereof and a captive fastener assembly integrally attached to the cover. The captive fastener assembly includes an elongated fastener having a head or shoulder, a load limiting spacer disposed next to the shoulder of the elongated fastener, and a load limiter positioned next to the load limiting spacer. The load limiter has shoulders formed at both ends. The elongated fastener has a threaded end for attachment to a threaded insert positioned in the engine. Insulators are attached to the load limiting spacer and are positioned to either side of an area of the engine cover adjacent the fastener aperture, thus capturing the engine cover between the elongated fastener head and the load limiter.

Engine cover integrated captive fastener

An engine cover system for joining a cover with an intake manifold body. A plurality of structural ribs project from an external surface of the body including a pair of parallel ribs. Each parallel rib carries an integrally-molded U-shaped receiver strip extending transversely from the parallel ribs to form slots having closed ends proximate a first edge of the body and slot openings defined by respective edges of the receiver strips. The engine cover is comprised of a shroud, first and second radial arms, and first and second hinge pins projecting from the first and second radial arms, respectively. The hinge pins are configured to slide into the slots via the slot openings into the closed ends. First and second elastomeric ferrules are installed on the first and second hinge pins, respectively, configured to be compressed by the receiver strips when captured at the closed ends.

An intake system is provided. The intake system including an intake manifold coupled to an engine and a vacuum port located in said intake manifold and in an air flow path downstream of a throttle body, the vacuum port including a molded flow disruptor including a cross-beam traversing an outlet of the vacuum port. The intake system may further include a vacuum passage coupling the vacuum port to a vehicle subsystem.

A method of securing a composite plastic part to an engine with a bolt or a bolt and washer. The bolt has a head including teeth that are adapted to engage either the part or the washer. The bolt is tightened to cause the teeth to compress the surface of the part to resist rotation that may become loosened as a result of vibration of the engine. The part may be an intake manifold, a cam cover or an oil pan. Locking features, such as teeth, may be provided on the clamping surface of the bolt and on both surfaces of the washer. Alternatively, a knurled or serrated surface may be provided instead of the teeth.

A positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system is provided herein. The PCV system includes an engine assembly, the engine assembly including an engine block, a cylinder head, a valve cover, and an intake manifold and a PCV passage providing fluidic communication between a crankcase of the engine assembly and a cylinder intake port of the engine assembly without hoses or conduits external to the engine assembly.

A cylinder head assembly is provided. In one example, the cylinder head assembly includes a cylinder head, a cam cap coupled to the cylinder head having a component port, and a cam cover coupled to the cylinder head. A method is provided for forming intake manifolds for an internal combustion engine and for fastening such manifolds to the engines. The method includes: molding a plurality of identical ones of the intake manifolds, each one of the intake manifolds being molded with at least one hollow projection extending outwardly from an outer surface of the manifold, each one of the projections being molded with a cap at the distal end to seal the distal end of the hollow projection; removing the cap at a selected one or ones of the projections while leaving the cap on unselected one or ones of the projections; fastening each one of the intake manifolds to a corresponding one of a plurality of internal combustion engines; and for each one of the fastened intake manifolds, attaching a hose or hoses to the distal end or ends of the selected one or ones of the plurality of projections.
