A plain bearing may comprise a bearing substrate, a bearing overlay, and an interlayer disposed between the bearing substrate and the bearing overlay. The interlayer may comprise hexagonal boron nitride.

Plain bearing and method

A sliding engine component may include a substrate having a surface coated with a first electroplated metallic layer and a second electroplated metallic layer. The first metallic layer may be disposed between the substrate and the second metallic layer. The first metallic layer and the second metallic layer may have a grained structure. The grained structure of each of the first metallic layer and the second metallic layer may have an aspect ratio between a mean grain size perpendicular to the substrate surface and a mean grain size parallel to the substrate surface. The aspect ratio of the second metallic layer may be less than the aspect ratio of the first metallic layer.

Sliding engine component

A sliding engine component may include a sliding surface including a plastics polymer-based composite layer disposed on a substrate. The composite layer may include a matrix of plastics polymer-based material. The plastics polymer-based material may have 0.1 to 20 percent by volume of liquid-filled microcapsules distributed throughout the matrix, and incidental impurities.

A plain bearing and method for making the same are shown and described. The plain bearing includes a layer of a strong backing material to which a first bearing alloy is bonded. A second layer of bearing material overlays the first bearing layer and comprises essentially pure tin without any other metallic alloying constituents and an organic levelling agent in the matrix thereof.

Bearings

A plain bearing and method for making the plain bearing are described, the plain bearing having an overlay alloy layer at a sliding surface of the plain bearing, the plain bearing comprising a layer of a strong backing material, a layer of a first bearing alloy bonded to the strong backing material and a layer of a second bearing material comprising said overlay material bonded to said first bearing alloy layer wherein said second bearing material comprises tin having included in the matrix thereof an organic levelling agent.

A method and apparatus for electroplating at least part of the surface area of an article with a metal coating is described, the method including the steps of: placing the article in a vessel, the vessel being provided with machinery to allow access of fluid to an interior volume; the article being contained in the interior volume and, machinery to allow egress of the fluid; providing the vessel with anode and cathode connections such as to enable the article to become cathodic with regard to an anode extending into the interior volume; providing machinery to cause at least two different fluids including at least one plating electrolyte to be introduced into the vessel in sequence, flow through the interior volume and to exit therefrom for a sufficient time to allow a required thickness of the metal coating to be deposited.
