A device adapted for determining cardiac viability, wherein said device includes: a cannula having a hollow body and at least a distal end adapted for insertion into a heart and operator end for adapted for an operator to position the catheter in the ventricular apex and adapted for connection to a plumbing system; an inflatable balloon positioned near to the distal end in fluid communication with the hollow body to allow for selected inflation of the balloon, a controller adapted to calculate the viability of the heart from pressure data detected within cannula or balloon which is inflated to various degrees with an incompressible fluid.

Cardiac function evaluation system

An active implantable medical device comprising a therapeutic device, a controller and at least one rechargeable battery, wherein a single hermetically sealed housing encapsulates a therapeutic device, controller and rechargeable battery. A hermetically sealed housing additionally encapsulates a wireless interface and a commutator.

Implantable medical devices

A device and/or system for use in evaluation, transportation or storage of a donor heart, wherein the device comprises: a number of flexible membranes forming a sterile field around the heart; a first connector adapted to be attached into the membranes and a second connector attached with the membranes; wherein the first connector is adapted to secure and engage the aorta of the heart; and wherein the heart is partially suspended by the first connector.

Organ perfusion system and device

A pump assembly and estimation and control system therefor, the pump adapted for continuous flow pumping of blood. In a particular form, the pump is a centrifugal pump wherein the impeller is entirely sealed within the pump housing and is exclusively hydrodynamically suspended therein against movement in three translational and two rotational degrees of freedom as the impeller rotates within the fluid urged by electromagnetic means external to the pump cavity. Hydrodynamic suspension is assisted by the impeller having deformities therein such as blades with surfaces tapered from the leading edges to the trailing edges of bottom and top surfaces thereof.

Rotary blood pump and control system therefor

The invention comprises an embolization device for insertably sealing a cannula. The embolization device comprises a sealing cap at a first end and a carrier surface at a second end. The carrier surface is adapted to carry a coagulating material and induces an embolism at a position proximal to the second end and an elongate stem adapted to be inserted within the cannula.

Staged implantation of ventricular assist devices

An axial flow rotary blood pump including an impeller adapted to be magnetically rotated within a housing by the interaction of magnets disposed on or in the impeller and stators disposed on or in the housing. The impeller includes at least one support ring supporting a plurality of blades, and a hydrodynamic bearing that operates at least axially and radially in respect of an axis of rotation of the impeller.

A pump assemblyadapted for continuous flow pumping of blood. Rotary pump with hydrodynamically suspended impeller

A system for controlling the speed of a rotary blood pump. The system oscillates the speed of the pump to produce pulsed pressure at the outlet of the pump. The speed is oscillated synchronously with the natural cardiac cycle. The natural cardiac cycle is determined using a pulsatility index calculated from the back EMF produced by the pump or an impedance sensor.

A pumping system for assisting the circulatory system of a patient, wherein the system includes a rotary flow blood pump by a first cannula connected to a portion of the left side of the heart and a second cannula connected to the aorta; and characterised in that the pumping speed of said pump is adjusted in accordance with measurements from a pressure sensor mounted in or on an inner wall of a portion of the left side of the heart.

System for preventing diastolic heart failure

A system for controlling the speed of a rotary blood pump. The system oscillates the speed of the pump to produce pulsed pressure at the outlet of the pump.
