Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses are presented for generating a photorealistic viewable model using augmented reality (AR). An AR scene is generated by overlaying a virtual object onto a view of a physical environment. When placed into the AR scene, the virtual object can interact with the physical environment by, for example, reflecting or taking on colors, shadows, brightness, and other attributes of the physical environment. To generate the viewable model, the virtual object is manipulated (e.g., moved or rotated) within the AR scene and a plurality of images are generated by capturing the virtual object as the virtual object is being manipulated. The viewable model can be generated based on one or more of the images and can be output in the form of an interactive presentation, for example, a spin image.

Generating photorealistic viewable images using augmented reality techniques

Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses are presented for using cross-domain communication to allow manufacturers and other sellers to use cloud/Internet-based products catalog services without sacrificing the search-engine optimization benefit of catalog pages hosted within the manufacturer's domain. The Same Origin Policy used by many browsers may disallow direct communication to the manufacturer's domain for corporate web site and other functions, on the one hand, and an external domain for an efficiently hosted products catalog, on the other. Some embodiments present the use of the JSONP protocol for cross-domain retrieval of a Catalog Widget that is configured to retrieve product catalog information directly from the external domain. In these embodiments, search-engine optimization is furthered by the efficient production of numerous catalog pages that originate from the external domain yet appear to users and search engine crawlers to be within the manufacturer's domain.

Using cross-domain communication to serve cloud-based product catalog pages from a seller's domain

The present invention relates to an analog transmitter using an external cavity laser (ECL) in which specific characteristics of the ECL are enhanced and exploited to improve 2nd and 3rd order distortion while increasing the threshold for the occurrence of deleterious stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). The performance of the ECL shows a substantial reduction in distortion occurring over certain narrow ranges of operating temperatures. Optical, electronic, thermal and/or mechanical methods are described that cause this 'distortion dip' to be moved to, or created at, stable regions of ECL operation, away from mode hops. Methods are also described that allow the distortion dip to be moved to, or created at, ECL operating regions in which sufficiently high chirp occurs, thereby reducing SBS. Transmitters and other devices employing these and related techniques are also described.

Analog transmitter using an external cavity laser (ECL)

An electrical resistor structure overlies a substrate and comprises a composite resistor having a first resistor of relatively low resistance and a second resistor of relatively high resistance overlying the first resistor. First and second electrodes make contact with the composite resistor at spaced locations, and a bond pad overlies the second resistor at a position between the electrodes. A metallized fiber is soldered a to a metal bond pad by providing a stacked resistor structure beneath the bond pad, disposing a solder preform over the bond pad, disposing the metallized fiber over the bond pad, and flowing a current through the stacked resistor structure. The stacked resistor structure, when subjected to a current flowing generally along a first axis, is characterized by a temperature profile that has first and second peaks on either side of the bond pad. The fiber is disposed along a second axis in the region of the bond pad where the second axis is at a non-zero angle (possibly, but not necessarily a right angle) with respect to the first axis.

A substrate structure useful for photonics modules comprises a high-thermal-conductivity (e.g., greater than 20 W/m&#xb0;K) substrate body with a low-thermal-conductivity (e.g., less than 5 W/m&#xb0;K) dielectric layer overlying at least a portion of the substrate body. Patterned metal layers for electrical circuit connections can be located on the dielectric layer, on the substrate body (under the dielectric layer, on regions of exposed substrate body, or both), or on both. Where the laser is driven at high frequencies (e.g., 2.5 Gbits/sec), the dielectric layer material and thickness can be chosen to provide desired RF behavior. For example, the electrodes and dielectric layer can be configured to provide a transmission line with the desired impedance. Further, where it is desired to solder a component to the substrate, a heater resistor can be formed on the dielectric layer, thereby facilitating soldering the component.

Substrate structure for photonic assemblies and the like having a low-thermal-conductivity dielectric layer on a high-thermal-conductivity substrate body

An ECLD assembly includes a thermally stabilized substrate, a laser device fixedly mounted in relation to the substrate, and a waveguide with a grating region having a grating formed therein. The waveguide is positioned to receive light emitted by the laser device and is attached to a top surface of the substrate. The ECLD's output wavelength is stabilized by one or more of the following: (1) mounting the waveguide so that its outer surface is less than 60 &#x3bc;m, and preferably less than about 30 &#x3bc;m from the top surface of the substrate; (2) placing a thermal cover (e.g., a generally semi-cylindrical shell or a strip of material formed with a V-groove) in thermal contact with the substrate and overlies at least a portion of the grating region; (3) bonding the waveguide to the substrate at first, second, and third positions where the first position is proximate the laser device, the second position is proximate a first end of the grating region, and the third position is proximate a second end of the grating region.

Wavelength stabilization of an external cavity laser diode (ECLD)

An apparatus, method, and article of manufacture to separate a slider from a slider row in which it was manufactured. The apparatus comprises an articulating robot including a stage which may be moved in X-Y coordinate directions and an articulating arm that may be used to place rows of sliders on the stage. The articulating arm incorporates a rotating effectuator unit mounted at the end of the arm, the effectuator being used to pick up individual slider rows, the tray in which they sit when first introduced to the robot, or any other item that needs to be positioned during the alignment of the rows. The apparatus includes sensors and a processing unit that may be used to detect and determine dimensional characteristics of an ABS surface of a slider integral to the row. The apparatus may also include a parting device for separating the slider from the row. In performing the method, a slider row is positioned on the stage in a manner that allows the ABS surface of a slider to be sensed by the sensors. Using the sensed data, the processing unit determines the location of the centroid of the ABS surface for the slider. The processing unit uses the centroid location of the ABS surface in establishing a parting position for parting the slider from the row.

A method and apparatus for texturing the air bearing surface (ABS) of a magnetic head of a hard disk drive includes juxtaposing the ABS with an ultrasonically-driven sonitrode having a diamond die end. An alumina slurry is disposed between the sonitrode and ABS at a slight pressure, with the slurry having a grit size of less than one micron. The sonitrode is then vibrated to agitate the slurry and thereby texture the head. If desired, a cavity can be formed in the die, with the cavity being a mirror image of a portion of the head, e.g., the sensing element, that is not intended to be textured.

Method and apparatus for ultrasonically texturing ABS of magnetic head

A method of machining a complex pattern into the air bearing surface of a magnetic head slider includes the steps of forming a die with a diamond surface which has a pattern which is a reverse image of the desired pattern for the surface of the slider; placing the die with the pattern of the die facing the surface of the slider; placing an abrasive slurry between the die and the surface of the slider; applying a pressure between the die and the surface of the slider; and ultrasonically vibrating the die and the slider reciprocally with respect to one another to cause the abrasive slurry to grind the desired pattern into the surface of the slider.
