A bag may be formed from a tube of high strength packaging material by forming a heat seal in the end of the tube. As part of forming the heat seal, one or more supplying apparatuses, which may be air outlets, are positioned for being in opposing face-to-face relation with, and for causing heat transfer with, at least one outer portion of the tube while a transportation system transports the tube to a nipping apparatus.

Heat sealing systems and methods, and related articles and materials

A method of forming a package includes depositing polyvinylidene chloride on a substrate, wherein the substrate comprises paper, drying the polyvinylidene chloride on the substrate to form a packaging material including less than 5 wt % water, applying water to the packaging material so that the packaging material includes at least about 8 wt % water, and bringing a first portion of the polyvinylidene chloride of the packaging material into contact with a second portion of the polyvinylidene chloride of the packaging material in the presence of heat to form a seal. The at least about 8 wt % water is operative for increasing a hot tack of the seal relative to the packaging material including less than 5 wt % water.

Heat sealable packaging material with improved hot tack

A microwave energy interactive structure for heating, browning, and/or crisping a food item in a microwave oven includes a plurality of layers including a layer of microwave energy interactive material and a substantially continuous tie layer. The tie layer includes a thermoplastic material. Upon sufficient exposure to microwave energy, the tie layer softens and allows the adjacent layers to separate from one another to define a void between the respective layers.

A package includes at least one closed end including a pair of opposed package panels, each face of the pair of opposed package faces including an interior side and an exterior face, at least one panel comprising a woven polymer material, wherein the interior faces of the package panels are joined to one another to define an interior joined area, the joined panels being folded towards and joined to the exterior face of the package to define a second joined area.

High strength packages and packaging materials

A bag has a reinforcement that is configured in a predetermined manner for reinforcing at least a portion of the bag. One or more predetermined areas of the bag may be reinforced. The bag may have one or more layers, and may be reinforced by placing and affixing reinforcing media in selected areas. The nature of the reinforcing media&#x2014;its dimensions and structural properties&#x2014;may be selected with respect to targeted uses of the bag. The bag may be subjected to one or more types of potentially failure-causing strain (e.g. bending, twisting, puncture, tensile, compression) during the useful life of the bag. For example, the bag may be stressed during filling the bag with product, top sealing, conveying by hand or machine, loading and stacking, transportation, storage, selling and final use by the consumer.

A microwave energy interactive web includes a reagent that is responsive to heat. The microwave energy interactive web may be used to form a package for heating a food item.

Thermally activatable microwave interactive materials

A barrier composite having reduced blocking is disclosed. The composite may include a substrate, a barrier layer formed from polyvinylidene chloride disposed on the substrate, and an anti-blocking layer disposed on the barrier layer. The anti-blocking layer may be formed from polyvinyl alcohol, and optionally, colloidal silica, wax, or a combination thereof. Alternatively, the anti-blocking layer may be formed from a polymeric carrier material, colloidal silica, and a wax. Methods for forming such composites and for forming a roll of such composites are also disclosed.

Anti-blocking coatings for PVdc-coated substrates

A barrier paper has a polymeric layer substantially covering a first side of the paper and an anti-blocking coating on a second side. The polymeric layer has anti-blocking characteristics. A method of making an anti-blocking barrier paper also is provided.

Anti-blocking barrier composite

A device for training/controlling and tracking an animal is described. The device includes both an aversive stimuli unit and a global positioning satellite system unit in a housing. Coupled to the housing is a harness, collar or other mechanism for attaching the device to an animal. The aversive stimuli unit is remotely operable using a hand-held control unit to aversively stimulate the animal wearing the housing. The global positioning satellite unit coupled to the housing allows determination of the animal's position relative to the operator of the hand-held control unit. A preferred embodiment of the present invention is designed particularly for tracking and training or controlling one or more dogs.
