A footwear article is provided herein. The footwear article may include a sole coupled to a cord structure. The cord structure may include interconnected bights in a vamp cord and a rand cord forming a loop line extending along at least a portion of the footwear article.

Port-injection footwear is provided. In one example, port-injection footwear is provided including a footwear-structure bag encompassing an injected filler material, such as foam. A strobel sock made of stretchable material may be integrated into an insole region of the footwear-structure bag. The port-injection footwear further may include a foam barrier disposed adjacent to the footwear-structure bag to retain the injected foam within the bag during injection. An outsole may be directly coupled to the footwear-structure bag forming a base of the footwear article. In other examples, the port-injection footwear may include a footwear-structure bag having an injection port, an injected foam retained in the footwear-structure bag, where the injected foam was injected through the injection port, and a port cap positioned at the injection port of the footwear-structure bag.

Port-injection footwear is provided. In one example, port-injection footwear is provided including a footwear-structure bag encompassing an injected foam. In some examples, the footwear-structure bag may form an integrated footwear component. The port-injection footwear further may include a foam barrier disposed adjacent to the footwear-structure bag to retain the injected foam within the bag during injection. An outsole may be directly coupled to the footwear-structure bag forming a base of the footwear article. In other examples, the port-injection footwear may include a footwear-structure bag having an injection port, an injected foam retained in the footwear-structure bag, where the injected foam was injected through the injection port, and a port cap positioned at the injection port of the footwear-structure bag.

The invention is a bladder formed of multiple layers of barrier film to provide multiple pressurized layers of cushioning fluid or gas when the bladder is filled. The sidewalls of the bladder can be constructed with an inverted seam construction to eliminate finishing steps in the manufacture of cushioning bladders and alternatively to provide a clean, seamless appearance along the side walls. The inverted seam can be formed by attaching the peripheral edges of inner barrier layers to the outer barrier layers adjacent a weld between inner barrier layers to provide an inside-out inverted seam appearance. An inverted seam can also be formed by providing separate sidewall elements attached to the barrier layers of the bladder to provide a seam displaced from the center of the sidewall.

A bladder which is particularly useful for a sole assembly of a shoe is formed of multiple layers of barrier film to provide multiple pressurized layers of cushioning fluid or gas when the bladder is filled. A multiple gas layer bladder enhances cushioning response by relying more on the response characteristics of the gas and reducing the amount of foam and the dependence on foam as a cushioning material. The internal film layers provide a truss-like geometry in cross section and act as tensile members to impart a generally smooth surface contour to the bladder. The bladder is constructed to provide complex regionalized cushioning profiles which are coupled to the anatomy of the foot and expected loads at known points.

An article of footwear, e.g., a shoe for running, jogging, and walling, that is designed to provide a better and more anatomical fit to the wearer's foot to enhance performance and provide better arch support. The shoe includes an articulated arch that is independent from the main sole unit to provide better arch support, optimal comfort, and enhanced articulation. A heel notch is cut in the medial and lateral quarter panels to enable the shoe to move in a manner more like the human foot. A heel clip is provided, in lieu of a traditional heel counter, to provide a secure fit in the heel region without the inflexibility and discomfort of a traditional heel counter.

A method of making an article of footwear includes the steps of forming a foam shell for an article of footwear by wrapping a foam side wall around the periphery of a base, positioning the foam shell on a last, securing the last and the foam shell within a mold and closing the mold, applying heat and pressure to thereby mold the foam shell to the shape of the last, and then opening the mold and removing the molded article of footwear from the last. In a preferred embodiment, the method further includes the steps of forming an inner bootie, having an inner liner and a foam overlay, and inserting the inner bootie over the last prior to positioning the foam shell thereon. The inner bootie includes the inner liner with the foam overlay attached to selected regions thereof. The step of applying heat and pressure thereby includes molding the inner bootie with the foam shell to form the molded article of footwear.

Method of making an article of footwear

The present invention provides a cushioned shoe sole having an outer sole layer for contacting the ground surface and a midsole layer disposed above the outer sole layer including an opening formed vertically through at least the top surface thereof. An inflatable bladder element having an unobstructed interior cavity is inflatable with a fluid medium and removably positioned in the opening in the midsole layer. When inflated and snapped into position in the opening, the bladder is therefore visible through at least the top surface of the midsole. The present invention also provides a method of making a cushioned shoe sole by forming an inflatable bladder with a hollow interior cavity defined within the perimeter of the bladder forming a foam midsole having an opening generally extending in the vertical plane and a peripheral cavity around at least a portion of the perimeter of the opening. Thereafter, snapping the inflatable bladder into the preformed opening in the foam midsole such that the perimeter of the bladder is disposed within the cavity of the opening and a cushioned shoe sole is obtained. The bladder can also be viewed through an opening in the top and/or bottom surfaces of the midsole.
