A vehicle includes an energy storage system, a battery cooling system, and a thermal event management system. The energy storage system includes a battery arranged within a battery housing. The battery cooling system includes a first conduit positioned internal to the battery housing and adjacent the battery. The first conduit is configured to facilitate circulating a first fluid through the battery housing to thermally regulate the battery. The thermal event management system includes a second conduit with a fluid diverter positioned therealong. The second conduit is positioned adjacent to at least one of the battery or the battery housing. The second conduit is configured to receive a second fluid. The fluid diverter is configured to facilitate selectively providing fluid communication between the second conduit and the battery housing so that the second fluid flows out of the second conduit and at least one of into or around the battery housing.

Systems and methods for battery thermal management on a vehicle

An electrified vehicle includes a chassis, an energy storage system supported by the chassis, and a battery cooling system. The energy storage system includes a battery positioned within a battery housing. The battery cooling system includes a conduit positioned adjacent at least one of the battery or the battery housing and a fluid diverter positioned along the conduit. The fluid diverter is configured to facilitate selectively providing fluid communication between the conduit and the battery housing so that a fluid flowing through the conduit flows out of the conduit and at least one of into or around the battery housing.

A tension monitoring device that attaches or clamps onto to a tensioned cargo load securing strap and wirelessly communicates the tension level to the driver via a remote device, such as a mobile smartphone. One or more devices may be installed on a vehicle or trailer to be simultaneously monitoring the tension conditions during transit. The tension signal from the device is received and processed by the mobile smartphone application to display the real-time tension relative to unsafe levels and transmit alerts to the driver when an unsafe or undesired condition occurs. The tension monitoring device includes an electromechanical sensor and microprocessor, powered by a battery, and packaged inside two hinged weatherproof housings for the ability to clamp onto a tensioned cargo strap.

The utility assembly is configured to decontaminate at least one of contaminated gear and contaminated equipment positioned in the decontamination chamber by treating organic carcinogens. The utility assembly includes an ozone generator configured to provide ozone to the decontamination chamber, a humidifying unit configured to provide humidity to the decontamination chamber, and a vacuum blower configured to at least one of (i) generate a vacuum within the decontamination chamber and (ii) pull the ozone from the decontamination chamber following a decontamination process.

A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine having a close coupled catalyst assembly includes a turbine housing having a toroidal-shaped low pressure exhaust gas chamber having a plurality of vanes disposed proximate the outer circumferential wall of the low pressure exhaust gas chamber. The vanes are arranged to disrupt the rotational flow of the exhaust gases as they exit the turbine housing to provide a more even flow though the catalyst element of the close coupled catalyst assembly.

A dual pressure pump system for a transmission includes a dual pressure pump having a first pump outlet and a second pump outlet, and a pressure regulator valve defining a first chamber in fluid communication with the first pump outlet and a second chamber in fluid communication with the second pump outlet. The pressure regulator valve is configured to selectively connect the first chamber with a first pressure line operating at a first greater-than-zero pressure and to selectively connect the second chamber to a second pressure line operating at a second greater-than-zero pressure.

A vane pump for an automatic transmission includes a housing which may be spaced from the axis of the transmission input shaft axis and driven by a chain or gear train driven by the torque converter hub or disposed on and about the axis of the transmission input shaft and driven at engine speed. The vane pump includes a pair of port plates which reside on the end faces of a pump body having a cylindrical chamber which receives an eccentrically disposed rotor that is coupled to a stub shaft in an off-axis arrangement. The rotor includes a plurality of radial slots which receive a like plurality of vanes. The outer ends or edges of the vanes are in contact with the wall of the cylindrical chamber and the inner ends or edges are in contact with a pair of vane rings received within recesses in the ends of the rotor. The vanes are thus constrained between the wall of the chamber and the vane rings which positively determine their radial positions as they and the rotor rotate. Suitable inlet (suction) and outlet (pressure) ports in the port plates supply and collect hydraulic fluid to and from the cylindrical chamber. A compression spring biases the port plates and body together. The vane pump according to the present invention is self-priming and achieves high pumping efficiency.

A hybrid drive system in a vehicle includes a prime mover, a starting device connected to the prime mover, and a transmission having a transmission input shaft connected to the starting device. A pump/motor is functionally interconnected between the starting device and the transmission. A first accumulator is in fluid communication with the motor/pump for storing a hydraulic fluid under pressure and a second accumulator is in fluid communication with the pump/motor for storing hydraulic fluid discharged from the first accumulator. Discharge of the first accumulator drives the pump/motor to provide a drive torque to the transmission input shaft and to provide a drive torque to the prime mover for starting the prime mover.

A dual drive pump system for rear wheel or front wheel drive automatic transmission in a motor vehicle includes a dual drive pump disposed off-axis of the transmission input shaft axis and driven by a gear train driven by a hub. The dual drive pump is also driven by a gear train driven by an auxiliary motor. Torque multiplication through the gear train allows the dual drive pump to have a smaller displacement while still providing the hydraulic pressure needs of the transmission. The dual drive pump may be driven by either an engine or the auxiliary motor depending on the operating conditions of the motor vehicle.

An auxiliary pump system for a hybrid powertrain includes a hydraulic accumulator, a hydraulic transformer, a plurality of control devices, a sump, and a plurality of fluid flow paths. The accumulator is charged by a high flow, high pressure hydraulic fluid by opening a first of the control devices and closing a second of the control devices. The accumulator is discharged by closing the first of the control devices and opening the second of the control devices. A high pressure, low flow hydraulic fluid is communicated from the accumulator to the hydraulic transformer. The hydraulic transformer converts the high pressure, low flow hydraulic fluid into a high flow, low pressure hydraulic fluid that is employed by systems within the hybrid powertrain.
