A tray riser is configured for retrofit in a printer feed tray. The riser includes a plate for supporting a stack of sheets in the tray. A stand is integrally formed with a bottom of the plate to position a front edge of the plate higher in elevation than a back edge of the plate. A retention tab is integrally formed with the plate for engaging a pre-existing feature in the tray to retain the riser in the tray.

A security laminate includes a face sheet laminated to a liner by an adhesive. The face sheet includes a removable label. The liner is covered with a release coating behind the label, and has a rim along one edge which is devoid of the release coating except for a security pattern therein.

A label laminate includes a small sheet laminated to a large sheet in a two-ply lamination, with a portion of the large sheet remaining single ply. The lamination has an exposed front side and an exposed back side. The front side includes an annular disk label in the two-ply lamination, and a rectangular first case insert in the single-ply portion. The back side includes a rectangular second case insert in the two-ply lamination behind the disk label.

There is provided by the present invention a thermal transfer medium which employs reactive components that crosslink when heated during image transfer to provide images with high scratch and smear resistance. The reactive components comprise an encapsulated liquid epoxy resin and a crosslinker which remain separate while incorporated within a thermal transfer layer until exposed to a thermal print head.

A coating formulation which forms a heat sensitive coating and a thermal recording material with such a coating are disclosed. The heat sensitive coating shows improved prerecording shelf life and improved record stability and consists of microcapsules containing a solid blend of dye and sensitizer, with the exterior of the capsules consisting of color developer and other coating materials such as pigment, binder and additives. Application of heat during printing renders the microcapsule walls permeable to the dye resulting in color development upon reaction of the dye and color developer.

Multi-layer thermally transferable printing ribbons and methods of making the same consisting of elongated backing elements having a subcoat layer requiring a relatively high level of thermal energy to transfer the subcoat layer and a topcoat layer which requires a lower level of thermal energy to transfer the topcoat layer. Accordingly, when printing using a lower level of thermal energy, only the topcoat layer will transfer onto the paper or other print receiving medium. On the other hand, if a relatively high level of thermal energy is used, both the topcoat layer and the subcoat layer will transfer onto the paper or other print receiving medium, with the subcoat layer remaining on top and blocking or obscuring the topcoat layer.
