According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method for determining the denomination of a coin with a disk-type coin processing system comprises moving a coin along a coin path with a rotatable disk, generating an encoder pulse for each incremental movement of the rotatable disk, directing a light beam transverse the coin path, detecting the light beam with a light detector, developing a signal at the light detector indicating the presence of a coin in the coin path, counting a number of encoder pulses occurring while developing the signal at the light detector, and comparing the counted number of encoder pulses to a plurality of stored numbers of encoder pulses corresponding to the particular coin denominations.

The invention is related to a coin chute for transporting coins in a coin processing machine. The coin chute includes a first surface, a second surface, and a rolling surface. The rolling surface connects the first surface and the second surface to form generally a V-shape cross-section to the coin chute. The V-shape has an angle &#x3b8; between the first and second surface surfaces, and is inclined at an angle &#x3b1; relative to the horizontal. The angles &#x3b8; and &#x3b1; are selected to be values that cause the coins to move under a gravitational force and slidably roll across the rolling surface.

Briefly, in accordance with the foregoing, the invention is related to a removable coin storage apparatus being used in a coin processing device, which comprises a bin, a cover, a gate, and a sloped floor. The bin comprises a first opening and a second opening, wherein a cover is used for the first opening. To allow the placement of coins inside the bin, the cover is movable between a closed position wherein the cover substantially covers the first opening, and an open position wherein the cover at least partially uncovers the first opening. The gate is proximate the second opening, and is movable between an up position and a down position, the up position at least partially uncovering the second opening to allow the coins to be discharged from the bin, the down position substantially covering the second opening.

A currency processing machine for processing currency including coins of mixed denominations that are input by a user comprises a coin counter for determining the aggregate value of the coins of mixed denominations, a coin bin for holding the counted coins discharged from the coin counter, and a coin sorter for storing coins discharged from the coin bin.

A currency processing machine in which a user deposits funds including coins of mixed denominations and paper notes is provided. The currency processing machine comprises means for receiving and counting the paper notes, a hopper for receiving the coins of mixed denominations, and means for determining the amount of the deposited funds. A sorting device sorts the mixed coins into denominations. A coin receptacle station for each denomination receives the sorted coins. Each of the coin receptacle stations includes a plurality of coin receptacles for holding the sorted coins and a coin distribution mechanism for selectively distributing the sorted coins between the plurality of coin receptacles.

The present invention is directed to a clamping device for a coin bag that receives coins from a coin exit region of a coin processing machine. The clamping device includes a mounting structure that is located at the coin exit region. The mounting structure has first and second outer surfaces that are generally angled with respect to a vertical line. A holder member movably mounted with respect to the mounting structure between an opened position and a closed position. The holder member has first and second inner surfaces generally opposing the outer surfaces of the mounting structure when the holder member is in the closed position. A bag receiving region is defined between the first inner and outer surfaces and between the second inner and outer surfaces. The bag receiving region decreases in size when the holder member is moved from the opened position to the closed position where the bag is clamped tightly between the inner and outer surfaces. To release the holder member from the mounting structure when the two components are clamping a bag, the bag clamping device includes a cam. A lever is attached to the cam for manual actuation by the operator. When actuated, the cam engages the mounting structure to force the holding member away from the mounting structure and release the bag.

This invention is directed to a shredding machine utilizing a lubrication process to increase the shredding capacity and service life of the machine. More specifically, the invention discloses a distribution manifold containing a plurality of uniformly dispersed pores which discharge fluid across the cutting elements of the shredding machine in a precise and even manner. The pore diameter and length can be chosen to provide for variable fluid discharge rates. Additionally, this invention relates to a lubrication discharge system which utilizes an actuating means that controls the discharge intervals over which the porous manifold releases the fluid. Provisions are included which allow for the lubrication discharge system to operate by use of a pump, or by the mere force of gravity in combination with a control valve.
