A splash bar for direct heat and mass transfer method and apparatus are disclosed utilizing grids of elongate splash bars which bars are arranged generally vertically and parallel with one another and wherein each splash bar includes both flat and curvilinear surfaces all of which are substantially perforated with holes. In one embodiment, the splash bar has a short first curvilinear surface that extends laterally and which changes to an extended first straight surface that in turn changes to a short second curvilinear surface which extends toward the vertical downward direction. In a second embodiment, the first straight portion is shorter and the second curvilinear surface changes to a third curvilinear surface with a reverse incline which changes to a second short straight surface which in turn changes to a fourth curvilinear surface that extends towards the vertical downward direction.

Splash bar for direct contact heat and mass transfer method and apparatus

An improved splash bar method and apparatus are described employing elongate splash bars each having a substantially flat, perforated upper central strip and a pair of substantially flat perforated lower strips connected to the central strip by elongate vertical strips holding the upper and lower strips in parallel, vertically spaced apart relation. Circular perforations are arranged in staggered rows with semicircular holes in alternate rows along the edges of the strips. The upper strip has imperforate strips along its lateral edges.

Splash bar method and apparatus

An apparatus for removing droplets entrained in a gas stream is disclosed wherein a plurality of longitudinally extending eliminator blades are positioned in side by side spaced apart relation for passing a gas stream with each blade having an inlet inclined section and an outlet inclined section of opposite slope connected by an intermediate transition section establishing a convex surface on the bottom of the blade and a concave surface on the top of the blade. The convex surface of the blade has a deviation greater than the deviation of the concave surface. The outlet section has a trailing end differing in shape from the leading end of the inlet section and is shown as an airfoil section at the trailing end of the concave surface of the blade. The blades are provided with notches at their ends corresponding with notches in end supporting plates for mechanically interlocking each blade with the end plates.

Apparatus for removing droplets entrained in a gas stream

A self-locking mist eliminator is disclosed for connecting a plurality of longitudinally extending eliminator blades having front and back surfaces to a pair of end plates wherein the end plates have a pair of spaced-apart flanges projecting from one side thereof and each provided with a series of notched openings for receiving a portion of the blades. Each blade has a pair of spaced-apart openings in the blade surfaces at each end thereof. The notched openings in the end plates are enlarged in at least one direction lengthwise of the flange to provide a pin member for engagement in one of the spaced-apart openings in a blade surface and with the entrance corners into each of the notched openings chamfered whereby the blades can be pressed toward an adjacent end plate to have the end of the blade enter one of the notched openings until the pin member adjacent thereto engages the blade opening.

Self-locking mist eliminator

A cooling tower splash bar method and apparatus are disclosed wherein splash bar elements are positioned in a matrix assembly with each element having elongate perforated upper and lower surfaces with the perforations in the surfaces staggered with respect to one another and with laterally outwardly projecting edge supports for the surfaces. Splash bar elements can include one or more interior longitudinally extending support members and notched projections along at least one longitudinal edge of the splash bar for holding the bar in the matrix assembly. A configuration for the splash bar element is disclosed with certain flat surfaces and certain upwardly projecting surfaces in the form of a single element which can be folded along its centerline to form the splash bar.

Cooling tower splash bar method and apparatus

An improved splash bar fill assembly is disclosed comprising a plurality of perforate splash bars, each bar having along its longitudinal axis a horizontally disposed section for intercepting falling liquid and a rib section disposed transverse of said horizontal member for furnishing structural strength. In a preferred embodiment, the rib section, and the horizontal section includes a bevel or a skirt extending from the lateral margins for directing accumulated liquid from the upper surface of the horizontal section to lower, laterally adjacent splash bars.

Cooling tower splash bar fill assembly and method

A splash bar for a cooling tower fill assembly is of longitudinally Z-shaped configuration. The top and bottom of the bar are parallel and are connected by an essentially vertical surface. The entire bar has openings throughout.

A crossflow cooling tower, water flow control valve and diffuser which includes an open ended inner valve cylinder which moves from a closed to an open position by means of a screw mechanism and allows water to be evenly distributed over a 360.degree. range to all parts of a hot water basin located directly under the valve. The water leaving the valve is directed and proportioned by a series of baffles and a cone to effect a uniform distribution over the basin.

Water flow control valve and diffuser for crossflow cooling towers

A flow control nozzle for directing a liquid through the floor of a liquid containing basin which includes: a substantially vertical tubular portion having a lower end adapted to extend through the floor of the basin; a chamber portion having a bottom surface adapted to communicate with an upper end of the tubular portion, the bottom surface having openings formed therethrough and being positioned a predetermined distance above the floor of said basin so as to permit liquid to pass therethrough into said chamber portion; and an air vent tube having an upper end adapted to communicate with the atmosphere and a lower end adapted to communicate with said tubular portion.
