An apparatus is provided for detecting each of the five known anesthetic agents, CO,, and N,O when monitoring a patient's respiratory gas stream during anesthesia. A source of infrared radiation emits the infrared tight through a gas stream and onto the infrared detector/sensor. The detector may contain ten analytical channels, each channel containing an independent infrared detector and a specific bandpass infrared filter which only permits certain wavelengths of the infrared radiation to reach the respective infrared detector. One of the channels is a blocked detector which serves as the reference point. A calibration and processing means is also provided to compensate for factors such as offset voltage, cross coupling, wideband changes and thermal drifts which may affect the accuracy of the gas measurements.

In an improved modular space system, a first lower frame resting on a support surface such as the floor is coupled to a second frame spaced from and aligned in parallel relationship to the first frame by a plurality of posts. Each post has a bore provided in each of a top and bottom surface to receive a stud extending toward the post from one of the frames. Each of the frames has a substantially tubular cross section, and each of the top and bottom surfaces of the post is provided with a groove, having a curvature to matingly engage the tubular outer surface of the frames. Planar members are received by and extend between slots provided in the posts to provide three sides of a substantially rectangular enclosure. Supports provided on the inner surfaces of the planer members have a series of equally spaced holes, allowing an end user to position sets of rails at selected locations within the enclosure. The rails receive shelves, or slidingly receive drawers, or a combination thereof. If desired, a door is pivotally coupled between opposing surfaces of two of the forward posts. Additional frames are coupled to the enclosure in longitudinally spaced relation to each other via spacers, to form open-sided columns. Two or more columns may be coupled together via boards that extend between and rest along parallel upper surfaces of the frames, to provide a horizontal work surface.

A modular space system includes open-sided modular frames stacked together to form open-sided columns, the upper frames having the same width but smaller depth than that of the frames on which they rest, thereby enhancing stability. Shelving elements of varying, selected dimensions extend through guide openings in the frames or rest on upper surfaces of the frames to provide horizontal work and storage surfaces. Snap-on frames are selectively attached to the modular frames to provide support for a variety of accessories, including file folders and drawers.

A method for improving the quality of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals for input to a cardiac monitor and obtained from a patient undergoing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) wherein the ECG leads attached to the patient are exposed to rapidly changing magnetic fields produced by the MRI which induce relatively high levels of rapid voltage changes in the ECG leads, the method including the steps of conducting the ECG signals having MRI induced noise signals superimposed thereon to the input of a slew rate limiter (SRL) circuit having a preselected maximum slew rate, the circuit providing an output signal having a maximum dv/dt which is slightly greater than the maximum typical ECG dv/dt, connecting the output of the SRL circuit to the input of a low pass filter circuit having an attenuation above the ECG typical fundamental frequency and connecting the output of the low pass filter circuit to a cardiac monitor.

An improved coin chute assembly wherein the housing contains a coin receiving opening, a first coin exit opening, a second coin exit opening, and a coin passageway disposed therein and interconnecting the coin receiving opening with the first and second coin exit openings. The coin passageway is characterized as having an upper coin path, a coin receiving section and a coin reject section, the upper coin path being oriented to permit a coin to fall in a substantially downward direction through the chute assembly and thus through the coin receiving section towards the first coin exit opening or through the coin reject section towards the second coin exit opening. A coil having a coin slot formed therethrough is positioned around the upper coin path such that an object traveling through the upper coin path passes through the coin slot. A gate assembly is movably disposed in a portion of the coin path for blocking movement of a coin through the coin receiving section of the coin path in one position and directing the coin into the coin reject section; or for permitting movement of the coin into and through the coin receiving section while blocking movement of the coin through the coin reject section.

A sonar flasher motor speed control for driving a D.C. electric motor from a varying voltage source. A rotating magnet and coil system generates a first voltage pulse once each revolution of the motor. A capacitor charged through a series resistor in combination with transistor means controlled by the first voltage pulse to generate a ramp voltage once each cycle. The ramp voltage is compared with a reference voltage by means of a voltage comparator, which generates a control second voltage pulse, whenever the ramp voltage exceeds the reference voltage. Transistor amplifier means responsive to said second voltage pulse increases the motor current during the second pulse so as to maintain the speed of the motor relatively constant.
