A lint barrier for a sewing machine which excludes lint from entering the interior of the sewing machine having a machine housing enclosing the internal workings of the machine. The sewing machine also includes an oil cooler adapted to cool oil circulating through the sewing machine, the cooler including a plenum, a radiator and an air source for moving air through the radiator. A conduit connects the air source to the interior of the sewing machine, whereby air is conducted through the conduit and into the interior of the sewing machine to maintain a positive pressure within the sewing machine interior, thereby preventing the entry of lint into the sewing machine interior.

An improved method and apparatus for attaching a collarette, display, and label to a garment body incorporating the use of a first sewing machine having a sewing head for sewing the collarette, display, label and garment body into a sewn assembly. The device includes a collarette feeder, a display feeder, a label feeder synchronized with the sewing head, a garment detector, a seam detector, a stitch counter, and a controller to control each device and perform necessary calculations. A conveyor system is provided to transport the sewn assembly to a second sewing machine for sewing the display in place to cover the overedge seam affixing the components. A collarette unfolded and a display unfolded are disposed along the path of the sewn assembly to position the collarette and display for processing at the second sewing machine. A cutter assembly is also provided to sever the collarette once the display has been sewn in place.

Method and apparatus for automatically attaching a collarette display

An edge construction for a garment. The construction includes a garment body provided with a finished lower edge and sleeves suitably attached opposite side of the upper end of the garment body. The body is cut away in the usual manner at its upper extremity to form a neck opening. The upper edge portion of the body portion is folded inwardly to form a first fold. A strip of collarette fabric material is formed into a longitudinally extending second fold therein to form inner and outer layers. The inner and outer layers are disposed on the inner face of the body portion so as to have the second fold lie substantially parallel to the folded edge of the body portion. The lower edge portion of the outer layer is folded inwardly upon itself so as to form a third fold extending substantially parallel to the first and second folds. At least two rows of substantially parallel stitching fix the strip of fabric material to the fabric body portion. Because both the edges of the fabric body and the collarette fabric strip are folded inwardly, no raw edges show. The resulting construction is durable, has a natural tendency to lay flat, and provides an attractive finish in the neck of the garment.

Method and apparatus for automatically attaching a collarette, display

A system is disclosed for continuously, sequentially, fabricating garment components from fabric blanks by orienting the blanks and sequentially advancing them to a first station where they are aligned with a continuous extending fusible interfacing tape. A heated plate folds a marginal edge of the blank at the first station into engagement with the interfacing tape and selectively applies heat and pressure to adhesively bond the fabric folded portion to the interfacing tape. The fabric blank and tape are advanced to a sewing machine where the blank is hemmed to define the garment component. A cutter removes the tape intermediate adjacent components and the components are subsequently collected.

Garment component fabricating system and method

A collar edge construction for a knitted garment. The construction includes a garment body provided with a finished lower edge and sleeves suitably attached opposite side of the upper end of the garment body. The body is cut away in the usual manner at its upper extremity to form a neck opening. The neck opening is visibly framed by a strip of collarette material which is folded longitudinally to form inner and outer layers. The lower portion of the outer layer is preferably folded inwardly to form a folded portion. The lower edge of the inner layer is also preferably folded to form a second folded portion. In accordance with the preferred embodiment, the edge of the body extends upwardly between the layers substantially to the longitudinal fold in the collarette. Preferably, at least two parallel lines of stitching pass through the lower portions of the collarette strip and the body fabric to complete the assembly. Because both edges of the collarette are folded inwardly, no raw edges show. The resulting construction is durable, has a natural tendency to lay flat, and provides an attractive finish in the neck of the garment.
