An electrical assembly adapted for use with a luminaire includes a housing formed of metal and having an interior surface defining a cavity therein. The electrical assembly further includes an unimpregnated ballast which is oriented within the cavity and which has coil leads projecting therefrom, the ballast encapsulated within a thickened mixture of curable thermoset polymer resin and finely divided inorganic particulate. the finely divided inorganic particulate and the thermosettable polymer resin is preferably provided in, respectively, a 3:1 ratio by weight.

Suspended luminaire

An outdoor luminaire assembly adapted to be attached to a mounting stanchion that includes an optical assembly having a lamp for generating light, an arm for supporting the optical assembly from the mounting stanchion, and a ballast which is enclosed within the arm. The optical assembly is adapted to receive and support a cover member which is selected from a group of differently shaped cover members. The cover member is made of a plastic material in order to provide design flexibility. The arm has a removable panel which allows for maintenance-ready access to the ballast and other electrical componentry which is enclosed within the arm.

Outdoor luminaire assembly

An apparatus (10) for maintaining an electrical component (22) in a substantially fixed position relative to a base (24) in an electrical assembly, the apparatus (10) being electrically isolated. The apparatus (10) includes a component retention portion (12) adapted for contact with the component (22), a base retention portion (14) adapted for attachment to the base (24), and a variable portion (16) between the component retention portion (12) and the base retention portion (14), the variable portion (16) being adjustable to the size of the component (22).

Apparatus for maintaining an electrical component in a fixed position

A retrofit unit for a fluorescent lighting fixture having a housing with an open face and a method for installing same. The retrofit unit includes a reflector plate for covering the open face of the housing and brackets for attaching the reflector plate to the housing. The reflector plate has slots formed therein which cooperate with the brackets for adjusting the reflector plate to fit the housing. At least one of the brackets acts as a hinge allowing the reflector plate to rotate away from the open face of the housing. The method includes providing the reflector plate and brackets, as well as inserting a bracket in a slot, adjusting the brackets relative to the slots, and adjusting fasteners relative to the brackets.

Flourescent lighting fixture retrofit unit and method for installing same

An apparatus for allowing pivotal movement between a reflector of a lighting fixture and a refractor which extends across an opening in the reflector is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a body portion, a leg portion attached to the body portion, and a retention portion attached to the body portion. The leg portion includes a pair of legs spaced apart from each other, which are closable against an inner surface of the reflector to secure the apparatus to the reflector. The retention portion includes a pair of retainers, each of which is closable around a bolt of the refractor to retain the bolt and allow pivotal movement of the refractor with respect to the reflector.

Apparatus and method for pivotably attaching a refractor to a reflector

A remote ballast assembly is disclosed for suspending a lighting fixture from a drop ceiling which forms the bottom boundary of a recessed plenum. The recessed plenum or ceiling cavity is typically bounded by a plurality of spaced apart cross members which form a support grid for the drop ceiling. The remote ballast assembly comprises a housing, a junction box, a bracket, a transformer, and a relay. The housing engages the cross members which define the recessed plenum to support the housing in the recessed plenum. The junction box is affixed to the housing proximate an opening in the housing, and the bracket is affixed to the junction box. The bracket includes a hook which engages a loop bracket on the lighting fixture to thereby suspend the lighting fixture in a vertical position, regardless of the orientation of the housing. The transformer is mounted to the housing, and provides electrical power from a remote source to the primary lamp during normal operation. The relay is normally open, but closes a circuit to provide electrical power to the secondary lamp when electrical power to the primary lamp is interrupted.
