There is provided herein an encoded information reading terminal such as may be provided for by a bar code reading terminal for operation in a network such as a retail store network that is configured in one embodiment to automatically enter a unique association mode of operation subsequent to wirelessly receiving a radio address from one computer of a plurality of computers, e.g., a cash register address from one cash register out of a plurality of cash registers. In one embodiment a bar code reading terminal can be configured to wait for a cash register address to be wirelessly received as part of a connection request initiated from one cash register out of a plurality of cash registers. A bar code reading terminal can be configured so that when operating in a unique association mode, a bar code reading terminal transmits all decoded bar code messages output by the bar code reading terminal to an external device to the one cash register sending its cash register address.

Method and apparatus for uniquely associating a bar code reading terminal to a cash register in a retail store network

A light control system and method for a film viewer (). The viewer () includes an infrared emitter () with an infrared detector () in communication with a microprocessor (). When a radiograph () is inserted within the film viewer (), the radiograph () is interposed between the emitter () and detector (). The microprocessor () detects a change in the emissions sensed by the detector () and illuminates the viewer (). The invention also provides a film holder () that includes a plurality of rollers () interposed between the holder () and the screen ().

Viewing system for radiographs

A transformerless driver circuit for an EL device has a battery or other source of dc power, and a microcontroller that is suitably programmed with associated firmware, so that a first switch control signal appears at a first output and a second switch control signal appears at a second output. A flyback circuit is connected to the first microcontroller output and, through a diode, to a charge storage device, e.g., a capacitor. This charges the capacitor stepwise to a relatively high voltage. The flyback circuit includes an inductor having one end connected to a first terminal of the dc power source, and another end coupled to a transistor or similar switch element. The transistor is coupled to the second dc power terminal, and has a base or gate coupled to the first output of the microcomputer. A controlled discharge arrangement bridges across the charge storage device to discharge the same periodically, and create an alternating current to drive the EL device. A second transistor has its base or gate coupled to the microcontroller second output. An isolating capacitor can be positioned in series between the diode and the charge storage device to eliminate the dc offset to the EL element. In one alternative arrangement, two or more flyback circuits are gated on and off sequentially. In a power-saver arrangement, the discharge circuit returns charge back to the battery.
