Thermoplastic blend compositions comprise polyphenylene ethers blended with modified polyesters. The modified polyesters comprise linear polyesters, such as polyalkylene terephthalate, modified with hydroxy- or carboxy-terminated polystyrene. The blends have good solvent resistance, heat distortion temperature, and gloss. Methods for preparing blends of polyester and polyphenylene ether are also described. They involve modifying the polyester with hydroxy- or carboxy-terminated polystyrene, prior to blending with the polyphenylene ether.

Blends of polyphenylene ether and modified polyesters

Thermoplastic blend compositions comprise polyphenylene ethers blended with modified polyesters. The modified polyesters comprise linear polyesters, such as polyalkylene terephthalate, modified with hydroxy- or carboxy-terminated polystyrene. The blends have good solvent resistance, heat distortion temperature, and gloss.

Compositions comprising grafted nitride rubber, PVC and plasticizer are good thermoplastic elastomers without vulcanization. These compositions exhibit good solvent and abrasion resistance and usually good resistance to compression set.

Grafted nitrile rubber--plasticized PVC blends as thermoplastic

Compositions comprising high rubber ABS graft copolymers, PVC and plasticizers for PVC are useful as thermoplastic elastomers. Formulations exhibiting good solvent resistance, abrasion and compression set characteristics may be used in shoe soling, wire and cable covering, hose and tubing and automotive applications.

The addition of styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer to acrylic core-shell thermoplastic elastomers reduces mold shrinkage and improves surface hardness. The compositions are useful as moldable and extrudable rubber goods.

Acrylic sequential graft copolymer-styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer blends

Polyphenylene ether resins impact modified with a rubbery impact modifier such as an ABA block copolymer or a polyolefin is made more processable by further compounding with a moderate amount of an aromatic polycarbonate. The compositions exhibit markedly high impact strength and high heat distortion temperature characteristics.

Phenylene ether copolymer aromatic polycarbonate blends

Thermoplastic core-shell compositions having a rigid core, a rubbery acrylic shell and transition layer intermediate between the core and shell layers and formed of the core and shell monomer components have excellent elastomeric properties. Although the rigid and rubbery components include interreactive functional monomers, the resulting elastomers remain thermally processable in extrusion and injection molding equipment.

Thermoplastic acrylic elastomers

Graft polyblends prepared by polymerizing acrylate ester monomers or mixtures of acrylate ester monomers and vinyl aromatic monomers in the presence of a rubbery saturated hydrocarbon polymer substrate are useful as modifiers for PVC, imparting improved flow and impact properties to PVC formulations when employed at low levels. The rubbery saturated hydrocarbon substrates useful for these purposes include mono-olefin polymers such as polyisobutylene, rubbery copolymers such as EPR, and rubbery hydrogenated polymers and copolymers of conjugated dienes.

Glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic resins composing glass fiber, a thermoplastic resin and a copolymer of an ethylenically-unsaturated monomer and from about 1 to about 20 wt. % of copolymerizable functional monomer exhibit a marked improvement in impact properties, heat distortion values and ductility, and improved adhesion between matrix resin and fiber.

Glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic resins comprising glass fiber, a thermoplastic resin and a copolymer of an ethylenically-unsaturated monomer and from about 1 to about 20 wt. % of copolymerizable functional monomer exhibit a marked improvement in impact properties when melt processed in screw-fed melt processing equipment such as a screw-fed injection molding machine using back-pressures in the range 0-100 psi.
