Non-random windings are employed to reduce the proximity effect in electrical machines, including rotating machines such as various types of motors. Thus, with respect to electrical machinery of the type wherein multi-strand electrical wiring is received within a slot relative to a surface associated with the transmission of magnetic flux, a method of dressing the wiring within the slot according to the invention includes the step of winding the strands of each turn in one or more layers, each layer being substantially parallel to the surface associated with the transmission of magnetic flux. The winding may be a multi layer winding, in which case the windings associated with each layer are preferably separated by an insulating layer. The invention is applicable to various types of machines and motors, including AC, brushless DC and variable reluctance (VR) types. The conductors may be of a circular cross section or other geometry, such as flattened tapes.

Method of winding motors and other electric machines to reduce AC losses

A phosphate bath control system and method is provided that tracks the set points of one or more of the major process variables of the phosphate bath independently of variations in the production conditions. A detector determines the current values of Zinc, Manganese and Total Acid provides data to a controller which exponentially filters the data and processes the filtered data in accordance with fuzzy logic rules. The controller periodically updates the flow rate of one or more pumps that control the flow of liquid concentrates to the bath in order to maintain a desired concentration of the various constituents of the bath. Control of an accelerator is provided by incorporating in the controller an additional algorithm for indirect estimation of the accelerator concentration based on a math model which represents the material balance of the accelerator in the bath.

An electron beam position control for maintaining the position of a beam of charged particles that strikes a workpiece at an impact spot includes an adjustable aperture through which X-rays emanating from the impact spot pass, a rotating cylinder having a plurality of slots formed on its outer surface, a scintillator crystal and photo multiplier located within the rotating cylinder, an electronic circuit for producing an error signal that energizes one or the other of two magnetic coils, which are effective in redirecting the electron beam so that its focal point strikes the workpiece at the target or reference position.
