An aerosol generator includes a saturator having an enclosure for passing a gas therethrough, and a porous substrate being adapted for retaining a non-vaporized form of an aerosol material, wherein the porous substrate is further adapted to release a vaporized form of the aerosol material for introduction into the gas within the enclosure, and a condenser adapted for receiving the gas containing the vapor from the saturator to produce an aerosol containing the aerosol material.

Safe, reliable and controlled dissemination of a powder aerosol over a relatively short period is achieved by infusing the powder aerosol into a holding chamber to form a concentrated powder aerosol cloud, reducing the volume of the holding chamber to exhaust the concentrated powder aerosol at a controlled rate, mixing a gas with the concentrated powder aerosol, and monitoring the admixture of gas and concentrated aerosol to achieve a target concentration.

A containment and test system for extremely toxic substances includes a fume hood, a containment compartment such as glove bag or box, positioned within the fume hood, a source of a non-reactive gas to provide a stable environment within the containment compartment, an inline moisture trap coupled to the source of non-reactive gas to dry the non-reactive gas, an ion neutralizer coupled to the source of non-reactive gas to reduce static charges within the containment compartment, a staging area for preparing test samples, a balance positioned within the containment compartment, a stanchion positioned within the fume hood for holding a test animal, and decontaminating apparatus for safely disposing of any toxic substance residue.
