A rotary turbine bypass valve comprises a valve chamber positioned at a junction of an inlet port, an outlet port and a bypass port, the inlet port configured for fluid communication with a flow of exhaust gas from an engine, the outlet port configured for fluid communication with an inlet of a turbine, and the bypass port configured for fluid communication with an exhaust aftertreatment device; and a valve rotor supported for rotation, about a valve axis, within the valve chamber. The valve rotor is rotatable about the valve axis between a first position in which the valve rotor permits gas flow through the bypass port and a second position in which the valve rotor blocks gas flow through the bypass port. The valve rotor is eccentric such that it includes a seal portion which is a portion of the valve rotor within the valve chamber which is furthest radially spaced from the valve axis; and as the valve rotor moves from the first position to the second position the seal portion moves towards the bypass port such that the radial separation between the valve rotor and the bypass port decreases to a minimum when the valve rotor is in the second position in which the seal portion is adjacent the bypass port.

Rotary turbine bypass valve

There is provided a turbine comprising: a turbine housing; a turbine wheel; an inlet upstream of the turbine wheel, the inlet defining a first inlet portion and a second inlet portion; an outlet downstream of the turbine wheel, the outlet defining a first outlet portion and a second outlet portion; and a wastegate arrangement configured to selectively vent exhaust gas from the first inlet portion to the first outlet portion via a first bypass passage, and further configured to selectively vent exhaust gas from the second inlet portion to the second outlet portion via a second bypass passage; wherein the first outlet portion and the second outlet portion are separated by a baffle of the turbine housing.

Turbine

A turbine generator comprises an elongate member, a support structure, a turbine wheel and an electrical generator. The support structure comprises a shaft and support the elongate member for rotation about a rotation axis. The turbine wheel is attached to the elongate member. The electrical generator comprises a rotor and a stator, the rotor being attached to the elongate member and the stator being arranged around the elongate member. The elongate member is provided with a bore and the shaft extends through an end of the elongate member into the bore so as to support it for rotation about the rotation axis.

A variable geometry turbine having a turbine wheel, an inlet passageway, a movable wall member being moveable axially to vary the width of the inlet passageway, an annular seal being mounted to the movable wall member or an adjacent housing member to provide a seal between adjacent surfaces of the movable wall member and housing member respectively, wherein a bypass passage is provided in the other of said movable wall member or housing member, extending from an inlet bypass port to an outlet bypass port, said ports being spaced from each other and provided in said adjacent surface of said other of the movable wall member or housing member, arranged such that as the movable wall member moves axially, the annular seal moves axially relative to the ports to vary the flow that may pass from a region of the cavity inboard of the seal, through the bypass passage.

Variable geometry turbine

A variable geometry turbine comprising: a housing; a turbine wheel supported in the housing for rotation; an annular inlet passage defined between respective inlet surfaces defined by an annular nozzle ring and a facing annular shroud; the nozzle ring can vary the size of the inlet passage; a circumferential array of inlet vanes; the shroud covering the opening of a shroud cavity defined by the housing inlet passage and inboard of the shroud, and defining a circumferential array of slots, the slots and shroud cavity being configured to receive said vanes accommodating movement of the nozzle ring; wherein the annular shroud comprises an outer flange, the outer flange defining a circumferential groove for receiving a retaining ring for securing the shroud in the opening of the shroud cavity and defined on an inboard side by a flange wall; wherein an annular flange rim extends axially inboard from said flange wall.

A compressor comprises an impeller wheel mounted within a housing defining an inlet and an outlet. The wheel has a plurality of vanes and is rotatable about an axis. The housing has an inner wall defining a surface located in close proximity to radially outer edges of the impeller vanes which sweep across said surface as the impeller wheel rotates about its axis. The inlet comprises inner and outer tubular walls extending away from the impeller wheel in an upstream direction and defining between them gas flow passage. A bleed passage between the gas flow passage and the impeller wheel is selectively opened and closed by movement of a sliding sleeve in a helical direction.

Compressor

A turbocharger comprises a turbine wheel () mounted within a housing assembly () for rotation about a turbine axis, a gas flow inlet passage () upstream of the turbine wheel (), and a gas flow control mechanism () located within the housing assembly () upstream of the turbine wheel () and operable to control gas flow through said gas flow inlet passage (). An actuator assembly is mounted to the housing assembly and comprises: A lead screw including a lead screw shaft () defining a lead screw axis, and a lead screw nut () threadedly engaged on a threaded portion of the lead screw shaft (). The lead screw () being arranged so that rotation of one of said shaft and nut relative to the housing assembly produces linear movement in the other of said shaft and nut in the direction of the lead screw axis: The lead screw () engages the gas flow control mechanism () at a location within a housing cavity defined within said housing assembly ().
