An optical cavity includes a cell having at least one structure with a first end and a second end, a first end-cap configured to removably receive a first mirror, and a second end-cap configured to removably receive a second mirror. The first end-cap is attached to the structure at the first end and has an opening with a center axis. The second end-cap is attached to the structure at the second end and has an opening with a center axis that is axially aligned with the center axis of the first end-cap. The cell can be a closed cell, wherein the structure is a tube axially aligned with the center axis. The cell can be an open cell, wherein the structure is a tube that includes one or more openings through its wall. The cell can be an open cell, wherein the structure includes one or more rods, each off axis from the center axis.

Optical cavity for absorption spectroscopy and methods of assembly

A cell for an optical cavity includes a tube with a first open-end and a second open-end, a first end-cap, and a second end-cap. The first end-cap is fixedly attached to the tube at the first open-end and has an opening with a center axis. The second end-cap is fixedly attached to the tube at the second open-end and has an opening with a center axis that is axially aligned with the center axis of the first end-cap.

Cell and optical cavity for absorption spectroscopy and methods of assembly

A system, method, and apparatus are provided for estimating a flux of fugitive gas emissions. The method is performed using a gas analyzer coupled to a sampling wand, where gas enters the inlet tip of the sampling wand prior to being sampled by the gas analyzer. The sampling wand is fixed to a mobile device that includes an inertial measurement unit. Location information from the inertial measurement unit is used to compile a high resolution geo-spatial map of gas concentration levels across a cross-sectional area of a gas plume. A near-field Gaussian plume inversion calculation is then performed to estimate the flux based on the gas concentration data and the location information.

Method for estimating flux using handheld gas sensors and an inertial measurement unit

A laser absorption spectrometry system for gas measurement is provided. The system includes an integrated cavity output spectroscopy (ICOS) assembly. The assembly includes a gas cell including a cell body defining an optical cavity, one or more tunable diode lasers having one or more nominal wavelengths, and a reflective collimation mirror positioned in an optical path between the one or more tunable diode lasers and the gas cell.

Systems and methods for measuring trace contaminants in gas matrix using integrated cavity output spectroscopy

A cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy (CEAS) system is provided that utilizes collimators the incorporate gradient index (GRIN) lenses in lieu of conventional spherical or aspheric refractive lenses. The use of smaller diameter GRIN lenses facilitates a reduced initial beam size entering the sample cavity, which reduces self-interference noise and increases a signal to noise ratio of the measurements. Further, a reduced size and mass of the GRIN lens can reduce a size of the mounting hardware utilized to mount the optical components, which enables more laser beams to be coupled to a single gas cell compared to a similar gas cell integrated with conventional refractive collimators. A larger number of lasers enables more gas peaks to be measured substantially simultaneously using the CEAS system.

Use of gradient-index lenses for cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy

A method for spectral interpretation in absorption spectroscopy uses a nonlinear spectral fitting algorithm for interpretation of spectral features in complex absorption spectra. The algorithm combines two spectral modeling techniques for generating spectral models to be used in the curve fitting process: a line-shape model and a basis-set model. The selected models for all gas components are additively combined using a least squares minimization, allowing for quantification of multiple species simultaneously.

Spectral modeling for complex absorption spectrum interpretation

A cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy instrument has an optical cavity with two or more cavity mirrors, one mirror of which having a hole or other aperture for injecting a light beam, and the same or another mirror of which being partially transmissive to allow exit of light to a detector. A spherical-spherical configuration with at least one astigmatic mirror or a spherical-cylindrical configuration where the spherical mirror could also be astigmatic prevents a reentrant condition wherein the injected beam would prematurely exit the cavity through the aperture. This combination substantially increases the number of passes of the injected beam through a sample volume for sensitive detection of chemical species even in less than ideal conditions including low power laser or LED sources, poor mirror reflectivity or detector noise at the wavelengths of interest, or cavity alignment issues such as vibration or temperature and pressure changes.
