A high-efficiency control system and method is presented. The system can feature a gate drive circuit, a floating charge pump and pump circuitry, and a bootstrap capacitor circuit having a floating ground. The floating charge pump features a ground electrically coupled to a load. The bootstrap circuit can feature a floating ground, with a floating voltage being carried across the bootstrap circuit and delivered to the gate drive circuit to produce an indefinite on-time for switching a high-side of a power supply to the load.

Control system and method for high voltage applications

A high-efficiency motor control system and method is presented for controlling an electric motor. The system can feature a multi-phase inverter having a logic control device and associated control circuity, a plurality of floating charge pumps and pump circuitry, a multi-phase bridge having a plurality of power switching devices and a bootstrap capacitor circuit having a floating ground. The floating charge pumps feature grounds electrically coupled to motor phase leads. The bootstrap circuit can feature a floating ground, with a floating voltage being carried across the bootstrap circuit and delivered to the switching devices to produce an indefinite on-time for the switching devices for switching the high-side of a power supply to a load.

Systems and methods of synchronously switching electrical phases of a permanent magnet synchronous motor are provided. Some embodiments can include switching the phase of the motor by employing an encoder that includes a tone wheel affixed to a rotor such that the tone wheel redirects a magnetic field away from Hall effect sensors in a timed manner.

A method of taxing an aircraft with an electric taxi system (ETS) comprising of drive units producing airflow through rotors to pre-cool drive motors and produce rotation of aircraft wheels. The drive motors may be used to produce reverse motion of the aircraft and of operating the drive motors independently of one another so one can operate at a rate of speed and/or direction that is different from the second one of the drive units which may provide enhanced maneuverability of the aircraft during taxing. The drive motors may be controlled to produce regenerative power producing a deceleration of the aircraft that does not shift a center of gravity of the aircraft.

Compact electric taxi assembly for installation on an aircraft

A electric taxi system (ETS) for an aircraft may comprise drive units mounted coaxially with wheels of the aircraft and dedicated motor control units for the drive units. The motor control units may be operable independently of one another so that a first one of the drive units can be operated at a speed different from an operating speed of a second one of the drive units. Independent operability of the drive units may provide enhanced maneuverability of the aircraft during taxiing.
