A facility for coordinating the safety care of a person is described. The facility receives sensor output indicating that the person has departed a place of repose. In response to this receiving, the facility establishes an alarm identifying the person, accesses a set of on-duty caregivers, and applies one or more precedence rules to establish a precedence among at least a portion of the set of on-duty caregivers. Until a caregiver has accepted the alarm, for each caregiver in the established precedence, the facility: causes a mobile device carried by the caregiver to render a message notifying the caregiver of the alarm and soliciting the caregiver's acceptance of the alarm; and allows the caregiver an interval of time of a first predetermined length in which to accept the alarm before proceeding to the next caregiver in the established precedence.

Assistive technology for operating nursing homes and other health care facilities

An aspect of some embodiments of the present invention relates to a system configured for detecting connection between a pressure pad and a monitor. The system includes a pressure detection circuit and a presence detection circuit. The pressure detection circuit is configured for sensing whether the pressure on the pad is above or below the threshold pressure. The presence detection circuit is configured for determining whether a connection between the monitor and the pad is intact. The presence detection circuit is configured to establish a high voltage condition that occurs when connection is broken along the presence detection circuit and a low voltage condition when the presence detection circuit is intact.

Pad presence sensing system

A pressure sensitive pad configured to be placed under a mattress and configured to identify presence and absence of a threshold weight on the mattress. The pressure sensitive pad comprises a signal generator, a sensing zone, at least one variable matching resistor, a microcontroller unit (MCU). The signal generator configured to generate an electrical signal. The sensing zone has a sensing resistor with a first resistance which varies depending on a pressure applied on sensing zone. The variable matching resistor is in series with the sensing resistor and the signal generator, the variable matching resistor having a second resistance. The MCU has an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) configured for receiving and measuring a portion of the signal at an electrical junction between the sensing resistor an the at least one variable matching resistor, the MCU being configured to control the second resistance of the at least one variable matching resistor.

Pressure-sensitive pad with calibration unit

A system for monitoring a person comprises establishing a check-in period, wherein the system checks for a check-in from local devices, local to the person monitored during the check-in period. If no check-in is received during the check-in period, sending a message to a remote communication device, from a first user different than the monitored person. If no check-in is received from the first user, sending a message to additional remote communication devices stored in memory until a check-in is received or until all devices stored in memory are exhausted without a check-in. If a check-in is received from a local device or a remote communication device, stopping the check-in period and stopping sending messages to remote communication devices and waiting for the next scheduled check-in period to check for check-ins.

System and method for active monitoring of a person

A pressure sensitive pad, generally planar in shape for placement underneath a mattress or cushion, capable of outputting a spectrum of signals depending on the pressure applied on the pad, comprising a plurality of sensitive zones, each zone being connected to a respective controller, configured to measure the pressure on each zone. The pressure sensitive pad comprising two electrically conductive layers; a variable conductive foam layer between the two conductive layers; and a non-conductive layer comprising a plurality of holes, disposed between a first of the two electrically conductive layers and the conductive foam layer. A system operable with the pad calibrates to detect absence and presence of a person for a range of mattress types and mattress weights and person weights; and determines a relative weight and position of the person while the person is on the mattress.

System and method for monitoring a person via an analog multi-zone pressure sensitive pad

A system for monitoring multiple patients within a facility comprises a plurality of monitoring apparatuses, a central communication hub, and a plurality of notification devices. The monitoring apparatuses generate data relating to the status of patients, and send the data to the communication hub. The data may include an alarm signal. In a variant, the monitoring apparatuses do not generate alarm signals. Rather the communication hub processes the data and generates alarms if needed. Alarms are sent by the communication hub to the notification devices to inform employees of the facility of the source of the alarm.

System and method for monitoring multiple patients

An apparatus is provided for monitoring a person. The apparatus is configured for identifying one or more undesirable conditions, by analyzing data from a sensor unit associated with the person's bed, the data being indicative of the person's presence in or absence from the bed. Upon identification of at least one undesirable condition, the apparatus emits a local alarm and transmits an alert signal to a remote apparatus, which is configured for notifying one or more responders about the undesirable condition. If one or more responders responds to the notification, or if the apparatus is reset locally, the local alarm is stopped.

System and method for monitoring a person

To generate an alert signal indicating that an unauthorized subject is in a first region within seven feet of a passageway, a radio transmitter is worn by the subject and received by a receiver at the passageway. A second signal is generated upon satisfaction of a second condition, such as an open door at the passageway, which second signal indicates the likelihood of the subject passing through the passageway. A first display indicates if the first signal is present and a second signal if the second condition occurs.
