A neck trial () is disclosed. The neck trial has a body () and a neck (). The body has an exterior surface. The neck extends away from the body along a neck axis (). At least one first line () is provided on the exterior surface, which extends in a first direction parallel to an inferior-superior axis of a patient when in use. At least one second line () is provided on the exterior surface, which extends in a second direction parallel to a medial-lateral axis of the patient in use. The number of first lines, or the position of the first line or lines relative to the second line or lines, is indicative of an amount of offset in the medial-lateral direction caused by the neck trial. The number of second lines, or the position of the second line or lines relative to the first line or lines, is indicative of an amount of leg-length in the inferior-superior direction caused by the neck trial. A kit of parts, a trial assembly and a method of trialling a joint of a patient are also disclosed.

Trialling

A trial neck for hip surgery and a method of attaching a trial neck to a bone canal preparation instrument. The trial neck includes a body portion having a bore for receiving a proximal end of the bone canal preparation instrument. The trial neck also includes an elongate neck part comprising a pair of arms extending from the body portion. The trial neck further includes a clamping mechanism comprising a live spring formed by the body portion and said pair of arms of the elongate neck part and an actuator, for moving the clamping mechanism between a clamping configuration and a non-clamping configuration. In the clamping configuration, the pair of arms of the elongate neck part are pinched together to cause an inner wall of the bore to urge against the bone canal preparation instrument to retain the proximal end of the bone canal preparation instrument within the bore.

Trial component and method

A trial neck for hip surgery and a method of attaching a trial neck to a femoral canal preparation instrument. The trial neck includes a body portion including a bore for receiving a proximal end of a femoral canal preparation instrument. The trial neck also includes an elongate neck extending from the body portion. The trial neck further includes a locking mechanism comprising a lever. The lever has a first end integral with the body portion. The lever also has a second end. The lever further has an engagement surface located intermediate the first end and the second end. The second end of the lever is actuable to urge the engagement surface against the proximal end of the femoral canal preparation instrument to secure the proximal end of the femoral canal preparation instrument within the bore.

Trial neck and method

A surgical component, a kit including the surgical component, and a surgical method. The surgical component includes a body portion. The surgical component also includes an elongate stem for inserting into an intramedullary canal of a patient. The elongate stem extends distally from the body portion. The elongate stem has a longitudinal axis; a proximal end; a distal end; and a plurality of splines located on an outer surface of the stem. The splines are circumferentially arranged around the stem. At least some of the splines are tapered such that each tapered spline is narrower at a distal part of that spline than at a part of that spline that is proximal with respect to the distal part. The surgical component further includes an elongate neck portion extending from the body portion at a non-zero angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the stem.

Surgical component, kit and method

The invention provides an osteotome which includes a curved guide member extending distally from its medial side. This curved guide member interfaces with the medial curvature of the femoral canal. The guide member guides the osteotome using the internal bone geometry of the femoral canal instead of relying on external anatomical landmarks.

Guided osteotome

A prosthetic knee system includes a tibial tray, a non-rotating tibial insert, and a rotating tibial insert. The non-rotating tibial insert and the rotating tibial insert are selectively couplable to the tibial tray such that a fixed or a mobile orthopaedic prosthesis may be configured. In some embodiments, the tibial tray may be a fixed or mobile tibial tray. Additionally, in some embodiments, the prosthetic knee system may include a femoral component.
