A sturdy lightweight table support system offers advantages of self-squaring, sturdy design, a low unassembled volume combined with simple parts that enable easy assembly, a system that enables user specification of table size that will result in easily prepared components thus all but eliminating stocks of different sized components, and sturdy lockable height adjustments. The self-squaring is achieved with a corner bracket system that uses a corner bracket that is inset with respect to a cross member within which it is mounted so that bolted assembly will result in a large, even pressure about the butt end of the cross member against the post that is extremely resistive to angular displacement of the cross member with respect to the post in any direction.

Sturdy lightweight table base and method

A pivoting vacuum fitting support vacuum post enables fittings to be quickly manually re-oriented during set up, break down, storage, and shipping of a vacuum support or other device using the vacuum post. A segmented core pivotally supports an outer fitting pivoting support sleeve that supports a pair of segregated and independently operable vacuum ports typically to supply vacuum independently to a base of a vacuum support to hold it in place, and to an upper work piece vacuum hold down support. Incorporation of a spacer that can be supplied in varying heights enables use of the vacuum post in a variety of vacuum supports of varying height.

A single and multiple abrasive structure support system has a multiple support structure which facilitates use of snail lock and Frankfurt shoe adaptive support with a stepped surface which enables the snail lock adapter to enabling support of an abrasive structure beyond and at a distance clearance from Frankfurt shoe rails. The single abrasive structure support includes a snail lock. Both single and multiple abrasive structure support systems incorporate a pair of plates for absorbing force and energy, especially resulting from uneven surfaces being textured, such as stone.

A system includes a sacrificial board such as a cement board and containment support lid, sometimes referred to as a saw cup, is provided for use with a vacuum hold down support to allow cutting on top of normal suction cups by providing a temporary scorable surface in an assembly that is easily installed and removed, inexpensive to own, use and handle and which enables a user to go directly back to using a CNC machine for final edging and processing of the material without having to go to another location for sawing and without having to deal with heavy and unwieldy plates. Dimensions are such that any penetration of the cutting blade is intentional and will result in controlled scarring of the cement board which does not disable continued use of the saw cup. A one-piece molded saw cup is also illustrated.

Replaceable sawing surface device and method

A cabinet assembly bore indexing tool and method provides facilitated bore indexing and guided drilling, while an assembly method helps to make the tool almost foolproof while reducing overall cabinet construction time and raising cabinet quality. The tool uses approximate or nominal material thickness blocks referred to as drill bushing blocks and adjustable axial length spacer sleeves in a floating spacer assembly to locate the drilled bores at the nominal center of the horizontal members and correspondingly in the reciprocal location on the internal surface near the edge of the vertical members so that when assembled they go together in perfect alignment. The cabinet assembly bore indexing tool indexes from an edge or surface to ensure front exterior matching upon assembly of a resulting rectangular annular shaped member as the basic unit upon which cabinet construction is based.

The support system and method enables exact and preferably machine assisted manual location and height placement of a vacuum operated hold down with rigid pre-set support on a conventional working table. A height adjustable jack screw support with angularly flexible hold down enables a holding support engaging the bottom of a work piece even where a lower surface of the work piece has an irregular shape due to the ability of the upper cup support to passively tilt to engage the work piece.

Tilt machining device and method

A tapping device is configured to be used within a drill press or lathe or other device capable of holding a cylindrical object. The tapping device has an upper projection for being axially fixed in, for example, a drill press. The remainder of the body of the tapping device is rotatable with respect to the upper projection and includes side handles for providing handy mechanical advantage to the turning of the tapping device body. The end of the body opposite the upper projection includes a chuck for holding a typical tapping tool. The projection is connected to an internal shaft which engages the body of the tapping tool and is spring biased to draw the projection and internal shaft within the body of the tapping tool. Conversely, when the tapping tool is supported in, as an example, a drill press chuck, such spring urging acts to lift the body of the tapping tool in the direction of the projection. The number and nature of the springs which act between the internal shaft and the body of the tapping tool, as well as the dimensions noted can be widely varied to accommodate a variety of force versus displacement characteristics especially taking into account the mass of both the body of the tapping tool and its tap chuck. An adapter is provided for quick change of socket supported taps.

Tapping tool for use with drill press

A plurality of spaced apart supports are designed to closely support a work piece immediately adjacent the edge being worked, ground or polished. Adjacent shear forced are also eliminated by the use of a polymeric interconnections used to both generally contribute to the spacing and to transmit the vacuum in a distributed manner among the individual support units. The top and bottom surfaces of the supports are dressably machineable in place on the working table to insure that all are brought to exactly the same height to insure even support, and utilize a hardened rubber, or any other suitable machinable material which will not enable the work piece to displace significantly downwardly upon the application of vacuum. The tops and bottoms, as a group, are selectively operable. The ability to periodically dress both ends of the interconnected supports gives the user the power to continually insure that each interconnected support set is within a more exacting vertical tolerance. Further, the machineable ends can be removed and replaced.

Flexible dressable edge support

An integrated support for tools utilizes both round and rectangularly shaped &ldquo;U&rdquo; socket tool support members that can be slidably mounted on a metal strip, and displaceable supports that can be mounted on a solidly shaped strip to provide an extended support with which the strip may be supported and stabilized. The extended support may be extruded, cut, or formed in any manner. It provides a body to which the strip may be attached, provides side surfaces that include recessed surfaces to facilitate grasping, and may optionally provide an extended area magnetic base, which works well with metal tool boxes to provide a measure of stability beyond its own weight. The support may actively provide accommodative support to a plurality of strips. The support has a central opening having a pair of oppositely oriented projections at an upper end thereof, that provide an engagement surface for the strip by using a threaded member, or a threaded member in combination with a nut, positioned with the central opening and either applying a facial cutting force against the oppositely oriented projections, or a compressive force against the oppositely oriented projections or restrictions over the central opening, with respect to the engaged nut in order to rotationally fix the threaded member.

Integrated support for tools

The devices and systems encompass the provision of a plurality of supports specially designed to closely support a work piece immediately adjacent the edge being worked, ground or polished. The top surfaces of the supports are machineable in place on the working table to insure that all are brought to exactly the same height to prevent adjacent supports from creating uneven support and adjacent shear forces. The top members of the supports are a hardened plastic which will not enable the work piece to displace downwardly but which will provide a vacuum downward force. The hardened plastic top of the edge hold down are machineable without losing the ability to act as a vacuum hold down. The shape of the hardened plastic top portions of the edge hold downs are complementary to each other and provide gently interlocking support and can be placed closely enough to eliminate the possibility of any significant amount of work piece area exposure which could produce shear forces. The gently interlocking shape of the edge supports facilitates their arrangement in a shape matching complex edge shapes of the work piece, including sharp corners and the like.

Machinable supports for close tolerance edge support

A clamping holder provides both an apparatus and method enabling quick, precise automatic re-positioning of positional devices, particularly useful in edging and milling applications. A clamping holder is capable of automatically approaching, lifting up to surround, engaging and picking up a positioning device, translating to a proper and precise placement location, lowering it into place, disengaging the clamping holder, lowering to provide exit clearance around the positioning device and moving away to either position the next positioning device or to move on to the next task. In addition to this automatic mode, the spindle may also be manually loaded by a worker standing well outside the work area of the main processing machine. A spindle shaped clamping holder has a radial side opening to accept a bearing member and piston support of a locational device. Within the clamping holder is a chamber having a self centering tapered surface to allow the cylindrical shape of the locator bearing member to be exactly centered in the clamping holder when the clamping holder lifts or when the locator downwardly moves within the clamping holder. A single acting, spring opposed, piston clamps down upon the top surface of the cylindrical locator bearing which locks the locator bearing and piston into exact centered alignment with the clamping holder.

The devices and systems of the present invention encompasses both an apparatus and method enabling quick repositioning of positional devices, and quick positioning of supports, particularly useful in edging and milling applications. The positional device uses a set of nested pistons which are mounted in an offset fashion onto a circular vacuum platform. The platform has a push tubing connection which is amenable to manual evacuation onto the working table, and a manual pressure release to facilitate spot movement of individual positional devices. An auxiliary vacuum system enables the positional devices in each work area to be individually controlled. The quick positioning of supports is accomplished through the use of a 'spider' shaped hub which is connected to the supports using a set of approximately equal lengths of pressure tubing. Since the vast majority of shapes which are processed have a center of mass at a given point, the use of the hub even where only a portion of the periphery supports are equidistant from the hub will still result in a savings in tangled lines and in the total number of line going onto the table. Further, this 'spider' or hub arrangement assists the operator in that it encourages setup using a center member and its surrounding members, and thus saves setup time. Therefore, to an extent, it tends to keep a surround orientation as it is moved about the work table, to quickly locate the work area.
