A network management system may allocate different amounts of bandwidth to different types of data traffic. The traffic types may be distinguished by their source device address, and whether the source device is part of, or external to, a first network. Packets may also be marked by their sender with information to identify a traffic type, and the marking may be used to determine the packet's treatment. The allocations given to the various types of traffic may be dynamically modified with changing traffic demands and conditions.

Data network traffic management

Methods and systems are disclosed for delivery of notification messaging in an IP network. A multicast gateway may receive manifest files and segments of programming content for retrieval by a client device. The multicast gateway may receive segments of a notification message and modify information in the manifest file to reference the notification message content. Upon retrieval of the manifest file by a client device, the client may access the notification message content referenced in the manifest file. The multicast gateway may replace references to programming content with references to notification message content having a corresponding content type.

Delivering notification information

Apparatus and methods for provisioning of customer premise equipment (CPE) equipped with a secure microprocessor to receive e.g., digital video content by entering unique identification of the CPE at one or more servers located at the headend or other location of a content-based network. In one embodiment, the CPE comprises a download-enabled (e.g., DCAS) host with embedded cable modem and embedded set-top box functionality, and the provisioning includes enabling DOCSIS functionality of the CPE, assigning an IP address to the CPE and providing the CPE with a client image for the conditional access system chosen by the network operator. In one variant, the network operator can deactivate a provisioned device while connected to the network, as well when disconnected from the network. The network operator can also add, delete or replace conditional access client image in a provisioned device.

Apparatus and methods for provisioning in a download-enabled system

According to some aspects, methods and systems may include receiving, by computing device from one or more client devices, a plurality of requests for one or more content items formatted in a first format and determining whether to multicast the one or more content items based on a data structure configured with one or more conditions associated with multicasting content. The methods and systems may also include transmitting, to the one or more client devices, the one more content items via one or more multicast streams if the requests meet a first condition of the one or more conditions. The methods and systems may also include formatting the one or more content items in a second format prior to the transmitting if network resources fail to meet a second condition of the one or more conditions.

Dynamically switched multicast delivery

Described herein is a system and method for determining one or more data modulation profiles for one or more devices. The system and method described herein may measure signal quality, such as a modulation error ratio (MER), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), receive power, transmit power, etc. Based on the signal quality, the system may determine one or more data modulation profile(s) (e.g., quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) profiles) for a subcarrier, a plurality of subcarriers, a device, and/or a grouping of devices.

Network traffic, such as packets addressed to a user device and/or a location, may be filtered/segregated to ensure that the user device and/or the location receives services for which they are subscribed.

Methods and systems for evaluating communications

Method and system for Internet Protocol (IP) provisioning over a cable network. The method and system including a plurality of embedded settop boxes (eSTBs) of at least two different vendors requesting IP provisioning according to a first protocol. The method and system further including a network provisioning unit (NPU) in communication with the eSTBs over the network for responding to the eSTB IP provisioning requests with IP provisioning data, wherein the eSTB IP provisioning data is outputted according to the first protocol such that provisioning of the eSTBs is standard for each vendor in so far as each eSTB utilizes the first protocol for provisioning.

Method and system for internet protocol provisioning of customer premises equipment

A hybrid fiber-coax network may replace an analog forward link with a digital optical forward link between a converged cable-access platform (CCAP) and node, which may allow for improved data-throughput rates on the network. Replacing the analog forward link with the digital optical forward link may allow for a greater distance between a headend and the node. Further, the digital optical forward link may improve link modulation error ratio (MER), which, when combined with advanced headend equipment, may enable a cable modem to support the high-order modulation profiles (e.g., profiles included in DOCSIS 3.1).

Digital forward link in hybrid fiber-coax network

A method and system of configuring media units. The method and system may include a bulk configuration file having instructions for configuring the media units. The bulk configuration file include instructions to support configuring media units provided by different vendors or otherwise requiring different configurations. The bulk configuration file may be transmitted to one or more of the media units, such as through a unicast or multicast operation.
