A feedstock gas, such as natural gas, is introduced into a mixing chamber. A combustible gas is introduced into a combustion chamber, for example simultaneously to the introduction of the feedstock gas. Thereafter, the combustible gas is ignited so as to cause the combustible gas to flow into the mixing chamber via one or more fluid flow paths between the combustion chamber and the mixing chamber, and to mix with the feedstock gas. The mixing of the combustible gas with the feedstock gas causes one or more products to be produced.

Method and reactor for producing one or more products

Methods and systems are disclosed that monitor the carbon and hydrogen production of a pyrolysis reactor system and adjust one or more inputs to the reactor system to improve performance when one or both of the monitored carbon and hydrogen production falls outside of a target performance specification. In particular, the ratio of fuel to oxidant ('fuel/oxidant ratio') supplied to a combustion chamber of the reactor system is adjusted to below a fuel/oxidant equivalence ratio range, defined as 0.9-1.1, when both carbon and hydrogen production falls below a target carbon and hydrogen specification, and adjusted above the fuel/oxidant equivalence ratio range when only the carbon production falls below a target carbon specification. The target specification can include a number of parameters including production rate, morphology (of carbon), and operating temperature.

Methods and systems for adjusting inputs to a pyrolysis reactor to improve performance

A drill string comprises a mechanical drill bit and a ram accelerator with a launch tube proximate to the mechanical drill bit. A projectile accelerated by the ram accelerator exits the mechanical drill bit through an orifice and impacts a geologic formation. The impact weakens a portion of the formation, enabling the drill bit to penetrate the weakened portion more easily. An endcap may be used to prevent outside material from entering the ram accelerator. The projectile may pass through or otherwise displace the endcap during operation. The launch tube may be positioned at an angle relative to the drill bit such that projectiles impact and weaken the formation on a particular side. Contact between the drill bit and the formation may direct the drill bit toward the weakened side, enabling the ram accelerator to be used to steer the drill bit.

Augmented drilling system

A fluid flow system for use with a gas turbine engine includes an exhaust nozzle, a primary air supply valve, a distribution manifold connected to the primary fluid supply valve and in fluid communication therewith, and a plurality of fluid injector assemblies positioned at the exhaust nozzle and connected in fluid communication with the distribution manifold. Each fluid injector assembly includes a first tube, a secondary air valve positioned at least partially within the first tube and in fluid communication with the distribution manifold, a fuel valve positioned at least partially within the first tube and located downstream of the air valve, an igniter extending into the first tube downstream of the fuel valve, and an outlet in fluid communication with the first tube and connected in fluid communication with the exhaust nozzle. The outlet has a different geometry than the first tube.

Combustion nozzle fluidic injection assembly

A nozzle for a detonative combustion engine, the engine having multiple combustor tubes, comprises a common plenum communicating with the combustor tubes. The common plenum combines separate exhaust streams from the combustor tubes into a compound subsonic exhaust stream. A compound flow throat communicates with the common plenum. The compound flow throat converts the compound subsonic exhaust stream into a compound sonic exhaust stream. The common plenum and compound flow throat cooperate to maintain a predetermined upstream combustor pressure regardless of down stream pressure exiting the expansion section. Optionally, an interface section is inserted between the plenum and the engine such that it communicates with the common plenum section and with outlets of the combustor tubes. The interface section is compartmentalized into flow passages with each flow passage having a cross-sectional area that increases from that of a particular nozzle intake port connected to a conductor tube exit. Additionally, an expansion section communicates with the outlet of the compound flow throat and has a diameter greater than the diameter of the compound flow throat. The expansion section converts the compound sonic exhaust stream into a compound supersonic exhaust stream thus expanding the exhaust stream to predetermined lower pressure.

A pulsed combustion acoustic wave generator includes a tubular barrel having an inlet end and an open outlet end, a fuel controller for metering a controlled quantity of fuel into the inlet end of the barrel, an oxidant controller for metering a controlled quantity of oxidant into the inlet end of the barrel and an igniter extending into the inlet end of the barrel that is controllable by an operator to ignite a mixture of fuel and oxidant in the inlet end.
