Devices, computer-readable media, and methods for routing traffic of a network service via a virtual private network that is configured in accordance with a virtual private network configuration preference of an identified user are described. A method may determine a network service that an endpoint device is attempting to access and may detect an identity of a user of the endpoint device. The processing system may obtain a plurality of virtual private network configuration preferences of the user, each of the plurality of virtual private network configuration preferences matching a virtual private network configuration preference with one or more of a plurality of network services, and route traffic of the endpoint device for the network service via a virtual private network that is configured in accordance with a virtual private network configuration preference of the plurality of virtual private network configuration preferences.

Identity-based virtual private network tunneling

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a system for receiving decoded satellite signals, obtaining media channels from the decoded satellite signals, selecting a portion of the media channels for distribution to a plurality of media processors, encoding the portion of the media channels selected according to a satellite distribution protocol, such as a protocol that facilitates satellite switching, to generate satellite encoded content, formatting the satellite encoded content according to a transport protocol to generate formatted content, and providing the formatted content for distribution to the plurality of media processors via a communication network, such as a single wire communication network or other network. Method and apparatus for distributing content in a communication network

Concepts and technologies disclosed herein are directed to virtual private network ('VPN') resiliency over multiple transports. According to one aspect, a customer premises equipment can select, from a transport preference database, a transport from a plurality of transports available to support a VPN tunnel. The transport selected is associated with a highest priority value of the plurality of transports in the transport preference database. The customer premises equipment can initiate setup of the VPN tunnel through the transport and can determine whether setup of the VPN tunnel was successful. If setup was not successful, the customer premises equipment can select a further transport from the plurality of transports available to support the VPN tunnel. Additional details are disclosed herein.

Virtual private network resiliency over multiple transports

An Ethernet Metropolitan Area Network provides connectivity to one or more customer premises to packet-bases services, such as ATM, Frame Relay, or IP while advantageously providing a mechanism for assuring security and regulation of customer traffic. Upon receipt of each customer-generated information frame, an ingress Multi-Service Platform (MSP) 'tags' the frame with a customer descriptor that specifically identifies the recipient customer. In practice, the MSP tags each frame by overwriting the Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) identifier with the routing descriptor. Using the customer descriptor in each frame, a recipient Provider Edge Router (PER) or ATM switch can map the information as appropriate to direct the information to the specific customer. In addition, the customer descriptor may also include Quality of Service (QoS) allowing the recipient Provider Edge Router (PER) or ATM switch to vary the QoS level accordingly.

Technique for ethernet access to packet-based services

A new type of data transport service which uses a frame relay layer 2 data link connection identifier (DLCI) to select among various service types, feature sets, and/or closed user groups (CUGs). A layer 3 address may be extracted from a layer 2 frame, and the layer 3 address information may be used to route a data packet over a packet-switched network according to the service classes, feature sets, and/or CUGs selected. At the destination, the layer 3 data packet may again be enclosed in a layer 2 frame with a DLCI indicating the service classes, features sets, and/or CUGs. Because the use of conventional permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) is not required in aspects of the invention, new methods of measuring and managing network traffic are presented.

The information received by the destination device having been transmitted from the origin device to the network prior to the destination device being operatively connected to the storage device.
