An ejecting exhaust nozzle in a gas turbine engine includes a convergent section, a divergent section, extending downstream from the convergent section, and an ejector for ejecting an airflow into the core airflow is fed by a boost pump. The boost pump includes a flow mixer with a boost plane wherein a fan airflow is injected into a ram airflow and then mixed in a mixing section extending downstream from the boost plane. Varying the fan airflow to boost the ram airflow to control a boosted ram airflow pressure allows ejector operation throughout the flight envelope of the gas turbine engine.

Method and apparatus for boosting ram airflow to an ejection nozzle

A convergent-divergent exhaust nozzle is mounted to an exhaust duct of a jet aircraft engine by a circumferentially-spaced set of hydraulic cylinders. The cylinders are interconnected in captured flow via hydraulic circuits which allow the cylinders to function as a gimbal mounting. This mounting allows the entire nozzle to vector the exhaust without additionally loading the divergent flaps with vectored exhaust so that cool, low pressure ram air can be channeled directly to the divergent flaps for efficient cooling.

Multi-axis vectorable exhaust nozzle

A method and apparatus are disclosed for spoiling thrust from combustion gases discharged from an aircraft gas turbine engine at ground idle operating condition. The method comprises the step of positioning a secondary exhaust flap of the exhaust nozzle to form a diffuser for the combustion gases at the ground idle operating condition for maintaining attachment of the combustion gases along the secondary exhaust flaps for spoiling thrust. An exemplary and preferred exhaust nozzle is provided wherein the secondary exhaust flaps are positionable in part independently of primary exhaust flaps so that the primary and secondary flaps may be disposed together in different positions during ground idle, dry, and augmented operating conditions of the engine. Thrust spoiling allows the engine to be operated at relatively high core speeds for providing bleed-air at relatively high pressure or electrical power from a generator, or both, without attendant relatively high thrust from the engine at the ground idle operating condition.

A gas turbine engine having a core for generating combustion gases, a power turbine, an unducted fan section and a booster compressor. The power turbine includes two counterrotating turbine blade rows which are interdigitized and serve to rotate counterrotating first and second drive shafts, respectively. The unducted fan section also includes counterrotating spaced apart variable pitch fan blade rows which are respectively connected to the first and second drive shafts. A booster compressor is axially positioned between the spaced apart fan blade rows. The booster compressor likewise includes first and second blade rows which are counterrotating and interdigitated and are likewise driven by the first and second drive shafts. The engine is supported by two stationary support frames to permit the nacelle to be nonstructural. The core engine is a modular unit so that it can be separable from the rest of the engine.

Unducted, counterrotating gearless front fan engine

A gas turbine engine having a core gas generator engine for generating combustion gases, with an additional power turbine, an additional fan section, and a booster compressor. The power turbine includes two counter rotatable turbine blade rows which are alternately interdigitized and serve to rotate counter rotating first and second drive shafts, respectively. The fan section also includes counter rotating spaced apart fan blade sections which are respectively connected to the first and second drive shafts. A booster compressor is axially positioned between the spaced apart fan sections. The booster compressor likewise includes first and second blade rows which are counter rotating alternately interdigitized and are likewise driven by the first and second drive shafts. The engine is supported from the two frames to permit the nacelle to be non-structural. The core engine is a modular unit so that it can be separable from the counter rotating turbine, fans and booster.

High bypass ratio counterrotating gearless front fan engine

An antisiphon air gap arrangement is disclosed acting as a vacuum breaker for the water supply to a dishwasher, including a partitioned, bilevel standpipe extending upwardly from the dishwasher tub bottom. One section of the standpipe acts as a maximum flood level establishing overflow drain, while the other section extends to a level in the tub above the so-established flood level, and receives a fill tube from the inlet water supply valve. A domed cover mounted to the tub bottom extends over the partitioned standpipe to prevent escape of overspray from the dishwasher through the standpipe, while openings about the bottom enable fill water to pass into the tub. The fill tube passes through the other section of the partitioned standpipe opening with a clearance space, through which air from the exterior of the dishwasher is drawn whenever suction conditions in the house plumbing occur. The maximum flood level established by the level of the one standpipe section seals the domed cover openings so that only exterior air is drawn into the fill tube. The domed cover also prevents possibly contaminated overspray from the dishwasher interior from being drawn into the fill tube under suction conditions.
