An example catheter includes an elongate member having a wall defining a longitudinally extending lumen, a fixation member disposed on an exterior surface of the wall of a distal portion of the elongate member, a pull wire extending axially through the wall of the elongate member and coupled to the fixation member, and a member portion encasing at least a portion of the fixation member, where the fixation member is shaped to engage the distal member in response to a pull force applied to the pull wire to cause the elongate member to deflect from an initial configuration to a deflected configuration.

Deflectable delivery system for implant delivery

Assemblies and methods provide for implantation of multiple medical leads to a defined space within the body, such as the epidural space, through a single entry. A catheter having multiple lumens or alternatively a single oblong lumen may be used. A distal end of the catheter enters the defined space through the single entry such that the distal ends of the multiple lumens or the oblong lumen are present in the defined space. Medical leads are introduced through the multiple lumens or the oblong lumen into the defined space. In some cases, the distal end of the catheter may be deflectable to direct the medical leads within the defined space. In other cases, sheaths may be present within each lumen of the catheter where the sheaths may be extended into the defined space and deflect to direct the medical leads that are being passed through a lumen of the sheaths.

Medical assemblies and methods for implantation of multiple medical leads through a single entry

A system and device for cryoablation of tissue that is suitable for use within an MRI environment. The device may include an elongate body, a treatment element at the distal portion of the elongate body, and one or more pull fibers. The pull fibers may be composed of a non-ferromagnetic material, such as a polymer. Likewise, none of the other device components may be composed of a ferromagnetic material. The device may also include at least one fiber optic sensor. The elongate body distal portion may include a distal tip to which the pull fibers are directly coupled. Additionally or alternatively, the elongate body may include one or more pull fiber lumens configured to allow the pull fibers to deflect the distal portion when a pull force is exerted on the pull fibers.

A tubular wall, which may be employed in a medical catheter or medical electrical lead, is formed by stranding together a plurality of polymer fibers and at least one metal filar, wherein the stranding forms a braid matrix of the polymer fibers and a coil of the metal filar interlaced therewith. Then, while the braid matrix secures a pitch of the coil, a polymer material is extruded around an entire length of the tubular wall, and, in some cases, the extrusion process causes the plurality of polymer fibers to melt and coalesce together with one another, while the pitch of the coil is maintained. Alternately, a reflow process, which follows extrusion, causes the polymer fibers to melt and coalesce along all, or just a discrete length of the tubular wall.

Tubular bodies for medical delivery devices and related manufacturing methods

A method of producing a multi-lumen elongate body for a medical device. Unlike known methods requiring a solid core of material inserted into each lumen to maintain patency of the lumens during manufacture, the present method obviates the need for a solid core within one or more minor lumens, which saves cost and production complexity. One or more material overlay and mesh overlay steps may be used to produce the multi-lumen elongate body, but only the main lumen may include a solid core therein during all manufacturing steps. The one or more minor lumens may each be defined by a lumen tube having a sufficient stiffness to withstand external pressure during all manufacturing steps without the need for a solid core within.

A method and system for manufacturing a multi-lumen device that includes extruding a first layer of material to form an elongate body with a first lumen and a second lumen, the elongate body having a length of at least 100 feet, depositing a mesh layer over the first layer of material along the entire length of the elongate body, and extruding a second layer of material over the mesh layer along at least a portion of the length of the elongate body. The length of at least 100 feet may be considered a first length, the method further comprising cutting the elongate body into a plurality of shortened elongate bodies having a usable length, such as between approximately two feet and approximately six feet.

Methods of manufacturing a multi-lumen device

A method of dimensionally stabilizing a lumen of a multi-lumen device during manufacture wherein one or more minor lumens may contain a fluid that maintains patency of the one or more minor lumens without the need for a solid core within. The at least one second lumen tube may be in fluid communication with a fluid source during the manufacturing process, such as during extrusion and/or mesh overlay steps. Preventing collapse of the one or more minor lumens during manufacture using a fluid instead of a solid core allows the lumens to have any of a variety of shapes and configurations that would be difficult, cost prohibitive, or impossible for a solid core to be used. Also, obviating the need for a solid core within one or more lumens reduces cost and production complexity. The fluid may be a non-compressible liquid or a pressurized gas.

Methods of dimensionally stabilizing a lumen of a multi-lumen device during manufacture

The medical lead delivery device includes an elongated body, a controller, a first and second spring, and a sleeve. The elongated body includes a proximal end and a distal end. The controller is disposed at the proximal end and provides enhanced control of the distal tip of the elongated body.

The medical lead delivery device combines features of a guidewire and a stylet in order to more easily and quickly deliver a lead to or through the coronary vein of a patient's heart. The medical lead delivery device includes an elongated body, a controller, a first and second spring, and a sleeve. The elongated body includes a proximal end and a distal end. The controller is disposed at the proximal end and provides enhanced control of the distal tip of the elongated body.

The device utilizes a reversibly expandable body partially covered by a blood impermeable sleeve. The device has a low profile collapsed state for delivery and a expanded state for deployment. The impermeable sleeve extends from a proximal portion to a distal portion of the expandable body and generally follows the contour of the expandable body. When deployed, the device is configured in the expanded state and has a generally hourglass, or dumbbell shape. In the expanded state, portions of the sleeve adjacent to the proximal and distal portions are placed in apposition to a vessel wall and blood is free to flow through the expandable body via inlets and outlets provided in the proximal and distal portions. As a result, an isolated treatment space is created that surrounds the device between the vessel wall and the blood impermeable sleeve adjacent to the neck portion of the expandable body.

A system for treating mitral valve regurgitation comprises a tensioning device slidably received within a delivery catheter. The tensioning device includes a tether linking proximal an anchoring member and a distal anchoring member. At least one of the anchoring members includes an elastic portion that flexes in response to a heartbeat when the tensioning device is positioned across a chamber of a heart. The tether includes at least one locking member initially positioned between the anchoring members. A method for treating mitral valve regurgitation comprises piercing a first wall of a chamber of a heart, engaging a distal anchoring member with a second wall of the heart chamber, engaging a proximal anchoring member with the first wall, and pulling a locking member affixed to a tether linking the anchoring members from an initial position between the two anchoring members to a locked position proximal the proximal anchoring member.

The present invention comprises a catheter method of manufacture. The method includes the provision of a subassembly of a lubricious liner and reinforcement. Over the subassembly, a shaft tube, transition tube, and soft tip tube are placed in an abutting relationship to each other, forming an assembly. A first tube of heat shrink is advanced over the assembly, heat is applied to fuse the assembly, and the first heat shrink is removed. Subsequently, the soft tip of the catheter is shaped using a second tube of heat shrink, which is placed over the distal end of the assembly. Heat is applied to the second heat shrink to cause the tip material to flow and to draw the tip material over the distal end of the lubricious liner. The second heat shrink is removed, completing the catheter manufacture.
