A reelable connection between facing ends of opposed pipe-in-pipe sections in which an end wall connects inner and outer pipes of each section to seal an end of an annular space defined between those pipes is disclosed. In each section, the inner pipe protrudes beyond the end wall and the outer pipe and is joined to an inner pipe of the opposed section, leaving opposed ends of the outer pipes of those sections spaced from each other. An insert positioned between the opposed ends of the outer pipes maintains the outer pipe diameter from one section to the other section across the connection.

Connections for subsea pipe-in-pipe structures

A method is disclosed for reeling or unreeling a pipeline having an inner corrosion-resistant metallic liner that is tightly fitted within the pipeline. To minimize or avoid wrinkling of the liner during the reeling or unreeling, a length of the pipeline is internally pressurized in a two-stage pressurizing process, and then the length of pipeline is reeled or unreeled, as the case may be. In the first stage of the pressurizing process, the length of the pipeline is filled with fluid at an elevated pressure, and in the second stage the fluid pressure is raised to a higher pressure, which may be 25 bars or more, absolute.

Method of reeling and unreeling an internally clad metal pipeline

A method is disclosed for reeling a pipeline having an inner corrosion-resistant metallic liner that is tightly fitted within the pipeline. To minimize or avoid wrinkling of the liner during the reeling or unreeling, a length of the pipeline is internally pressurized by deploying a single sealing pig within the pipeline near to the trailing end of the pipeline and applying pressurized fluid within the pipeline, and then the length of pipeline is reeled onto a storage reel. In the pressurizing process, the length of the pipeline is filled with fluid at an elevated pressure within a range defined by a lower limit of 5 bar.

The invention provides a protection system for a fluid compartment of variable volume. The protection system comprises a detection means for detecting when the volume of the fluid compartment is outside a predetermined acceptable limit. The protection system also comprises a valve arrangement mountable on at least one port that is in selective fluid communication with the fluid compartment. The protection system further comprises an actuator, wherein the detection means is coupled to the valve arrangement via the actuator. When the detection means detects that the volume of the fluid compartment is outside the predetermined limit, the actuator causes the valve arrangement to change state and alters the volume of the fluid compartment. The protection system can be used with a compensator to protect a movable part of the compensator from damage.
