A system includes a shaft extendable from a vehicle roof, a sensor mount mounted to the shaft, a plurality of sensors supported by the sensor mount, and a computer communicatively coupled with one or more of the sensors to receive data from the one or more of the sensors, the computer including a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions executable by the processor to extend the shaft to position the sensor mount to a specified height above the roof.

Vehicle roof assembly

A set of first candidate topologies of first candidate roadside infrastructure nodes at respective mounting locations in a geographic area is randomly generated. For each of the first candidate topologies, first simulations, including detection of objects according to selected sensor parameters, installation parameters, and environment parameters for the candidate nodes at the respective mounting locations, are executed. First fitness scores are determined for each of the first candidate topologies by comparing results of the first simulations to ground truth data. Upon identifying one of the first fitness scores as exceeding a threshold, the candidate topology associated with the identified first fitness score is identified for deployment.

Roadside infrastructure deployment

An infrastructure system includes at least one sensor, a transceiver, and a computer communicatively coupled to the at least one sensor and to the transceiver. The computer is programmed to receive data from the at least one sensor indicating respective locations and motions of objects in an environment surrounding the at least one sensor; in response to one of (a) the data from the at least one sensor or (b) a request from a user, generate a virtual traffic marker at a first location in the environment; and instruct the transceiver to broadcast the virtual traffic marker to vehicles in the environment. The first location is based on the data from the at least one sensor, and the virtual traffic marker is data including the first location and traffic instructions corresponding to the first location.

Infrastructure system

An infrastructure component includes a sensor, a transmitter, and a computer communicatively coupled to the sensor and to the transmitter. The computer is programmed to, in response to receiving data from the sensor indicating an object approaching a predesignated zone, determine an estimated time until the object reaches the predesignated zone; and then instruct the transmitter to broadcast a message to nearby vehicles, the message including an identifier of the predesignated zone and the estimated time.

Infrastructure component broadcast to vehicles

A vehicle bears labels describing handling characteristics of the vehicle for the benefit of autonomous vehicles in proximity to the vehicle. The labels may be nonvisible, such as through use of UV or IR inks. The labels may be present such that they are visible regardless of view direction and may be affixed using a vehicle wrap applied to panels of the vehicle. Autonomous vehicles detect the labels and retrieve handling characteristics from a local database or a remote server. The autonomous vehicles are therefore relieved from the processing required to predict or infer the handling characteristics of the vehicle.

Vehicle classification system

This disclosure generally relates to an automotive drone deployment system that includes at least a vehicle and a deployable drone that is configured to attach and detach from the vehicle. More specifically, the disclosure describes the vehicle and drone remaining in communication with each other to exchange information while the vehicle is being operated in an autonomous driving mode so that the vehicle's performance under the autonomous driving mode is enhanced.

A motor vehicle comprises an HVAC system including a climate control circuit coupled to onboard sensors, a human-machine interface, and climate actuators. The actuators are responsive to respective command parameters generated by the control circuit in response to the sensors and the human-machine interface. A wireless communication system transmits vehicle HVAC data to and receives crowd data from a remote server. The control circuit initiates a request for crowd data via the communication system to the remote server, wherein the request includes peer parameters for identifying a vehicle environment. The control circuit receives a response via the communication system from the remote server. The response comprises crowd data and at least one weight indicating a confidence level associated with the crowd data. The control circuit generates at least one command parameter using a set of fuzzy rules responsive to the crowd data and the weight from the response.

An engine of a stop/start vehicle, after the engine has been automatically stopped, may be commanded to automatically restart in response to detecting that the vehicle is in a turn lane based on traffic data in a vicinity of the vehicle such that the engine is automatically restarted before a brake pedal is released and a steering wheel is turned.

Methods and systems are provided for improving vehicle torque control accuracy. Data points of an engine torque data set are adjusted en masse by an on-board vehicle controller while also being adjusted individually by an off-board controller. By adjusting engine operation based on a torque data set that is updated by each of the on-board and off-board controllers, engine torque errors can be reliably determined and compensated for.

A stop/start vehicle includes an engine and a stop/start system that prevents an auto stop of the engine when a speed of the vehicle is approximately zero in response to the vehicle being located within a specified distance from a body of water or in response to the vehicle being located in a user identified geographic region.

A system and method for improving engine starting and stopping is described. In one example, turbine vanes are adjusted to increase engine exhaust backpressure to reduce engine stopping time and to limit engine speed overshoot during engine starting. The system and method may reduce engine emissions and improve a vehicle driving experience.
