Tools and method for automatically controlling torque when making-up and/or breaking-down threaded connections between downhole assets such as drill pipe, drill collars, and BAH components. An iron roughneck may be controlled by, for instance, automatically monitoring and adjusting the fluid pressure of cylinders that ultimately provide the torque to the downhole assets. The torque may further be automatically controlled by automatically identifying the downhole assets and selecting a corresponding torque profile or target torque. Clamping force may also be controlled, and is optionally proportional to the target torque.

Intelligent control of drill pipe torque

A therapeutic measuring device that determines a difference in length between a pair of legs of a user. The therapeutic measuring device includes a stationary platform and a movable platform. The stationary platform has one leg of the user stand thereon. The movable platform has the other leg of the user stand thereon. The movable platform is moved vertically until the other leg of the user standing thereon aligns with the one leg of the user standing on the stationary platform, with an amount of elevation of the movable platform determining the difference in the length between the pair of legs of the user.

An embodiment of a system for preventing the loss of a spooled device into a wellbore comprises a housing defining an aperture extending therethrough, the aperture sized for allowing the spooled device to pass therethrough, a sensor to measure at least one condition of the system, and a gripper device to engage with the spooled device and the housing to prevent the loss of the spooled device when the condition of the system is a failure condition.

An operation of drilling an earth borehole uses a drilling rig, a drill string of drill pipes having its generally upper end mechanically coupleable with and suspendable from the drilling rig, a drive string portion of the drill string, mechanically coupleable with the topmost drill pipe of said drill string, and a drive mechanism mechanically coupleable with the drive string for rotating the drive string and the drill string. A system for generating electric power in the region of the drive string includes an electric generator, which includes a rotating generator component mounted on said drive string for rotation therewith and a stationary generator component mounted on a stationary portion of the drilling rig. The rotating generator component produces electric power in the region of the drive string.

Surface communication apparatus and method for use with drill string telemetry

A controller for a pump for pumping a drilling fluid from a storage unit to a downhole tool includes at least one actuation device coupled to a control console of the pump, and at least one connector coupled to the at least one actuation device and a pump control mechanism of the control console.

Automatic downlink system

A downlink system that includes at least one mud pump for pumping drilling fluid from a drilling fluid storage tank to a drilling system, a standpipe in fluid communication with the mud pump and in fluid communication with the drilling system, and a return line in fluid communication with the drilling system for returning the drilling fluid to the drilling fluid storage tank is provided. A drilling fluid modulator may be in fluid communication with at least one of the group consisting of the standpipe and the return line.

A method and apparatus is disclosed for transmitting digital signals across safety transmission barrier. High data transfer rates are achieved for transfer from a safe certified device across the transmission barrier to a standard or non-rated device. A signal pair is generated including a first digital signal from the safe device and a second digital signal that is phase shifted from the first digital signal. Preferably, the second signal is phase shifted by 180 degrees, essentially being an inverted version of the first digital signal. The first and second digital signals are transmitted across the transmission barrier to a receiver in a safe area. An output signal is then reconstructed based on the falling edges of the first and second digital signals. The reconstructed signal closely approximates the first digital signal.

A method of producing active immunity against a viral disease in an animal subject comprises administering to the subject a vaccine complex consisting essentially of a live virus and a neutralizing factor bound to the live virus. The neutralizing factor is selected from the group consisting of antibodies and antibody fragments. The live virus is one capable of producing disease in the subject, and the antibody or antibody fragment is one capable of neutralizing the live virus. Preferred subjects are birds, a preferred virus is Infectious Bursal Disease Virus, and a preferred route of administration to birds is by in ovo administration.
