A technique facilitates completion and stimulation of a reservoir, e.g. a lower tertiary reservoir. Initially a wellbore is drilled into the tertiary reservoir. Following drilling, the wellbore is completed by deploying completion equipment constructed to facilitate stimulation of the tertiary reservoir. The completion equipment may be operated in conjunction with a stimulation system to stimulate the tertiary reservoir and thus to enhance retrieval of hydrocarbon fluids contained within the tertiary reservoir.

A technique facilitates verification of the integrity of a lower completion prior to deployment of a corresponding upper completion. A lower completion is initially deployed downhole into a wellbore and comprises a plurality of functional components, such as a sensor, a communication system, a flow control system, and/or other functional components. A service tool system is removably deployed into the wellbore and comprises a service tool with an interface which interacts with the lower completion. The interface enables verification of the integrity, e.g. functionality, of various functional components of the lower completion without the use of an additional communication line, e.g. power cable, routed separately to the lower completion.

A flow control valve assembly with a plunger continuously movable between closed, intermediate, and open positions. The plunger has an uphole side and a downhole side opposite the uphole side, and both uphole and downhole sides are exposed to the same hydrostatic pressure in the well, resulting in a flow control device that can be operated with minimal power consumption and still withstanding high pressure loads.

A lateral wellbore completion apparatus may include a flow-through deflector having a deflector face and a junction string that includes a junction block cooperative to mate with the deflector face, a downhole device, and an inductive coupler electrically connected to the downhole device. A method may include anchoring the deflector in a main bore, making-up at the drilling surface a junction string that includes a junction block, a completion string section having a downhole device, and a secondary inductive coupler electrically connected to the downhole device, running the junction string into the main bore, deflecting the completion string section into the lateral bore, and landing the junction block on the deflector face thereby communicatively coupling the secondary and primary inductive couplers.

Lateral wellbore completion apparatus and method

A system and methodology facilitates conveyance of a tool, e.g. a downhole completion or completion component, via a tool string. The tool string comprises a contraction joint designed to contract if the tool incurs sufficient axial loading. The contraction joint may comprise an outer housing and a mandrel slidably received in the outer housing. The contraction joint also comprises a resettable locking member which selectively releases the mandrel with respect to the outer housing to contract the contraction joint when under sufficient axial loading.

First equipment is provided in a first lateral branch of a well, and second equipment in a second lateral branch of the well. Cross-lateral logging is performed using the first and second equipment in the corresponding first and second lateral branches.

An installation system and method configured to install a lower completion section is provided. The installation system may comprise an installation drill pipe configured to releasably couple with a lower completion section. The installation system may comprise an electrical wet connect. The electrical wet connect may be coupled with a connector configured to establish a communication pathway between the electrical wet connect and components of the lower completion section. The lower completion section may be run in hole. Communications between a surface location and the lower completion components may be established via the electrical wet connect. The lower completion components may be tested prior to setting a lower completion section packer.

Active integrated completion installation system and method

A technique enables wireless communication of signals in a well. The technique is employed for communication of power signals and/or data signals between a mother wellbore and at least one lateral wellbore. A first wireless device is positioned in a mother wellbore proximate a lateral wellbore, and a second wireless device is positioned in the lateral wellbore. The power and/or data signal is transferred wirelessly between the first and second wireless devices via magnetic fields. A plurality of the first and second wireless devices may be employed in cooperating pairs to enable communication between the mother wellbore and a plurality of lateral wellbores.

This invention relates to the flow control of wellbores including a parent well and at least two lateral branches, each of which may have any direction (from vertical to horizontal). The flow from each lateral branch is independently controlled by a separate flow control device. The flow control devices are located within the parent well to enable an easier and efficient workover and intervention of such devices. In some embodiments, the flow control devices are located above the intersection between the parent well and the at least two lateral branches for similar reasons.
