A composition and method useful in promoting healing of a bleeding wound site. The composition preferably includes a substantially anhydrous acid form of a cation exchange resin, which when applied over blood, provides an antimicrobial against planktonic microorganisms and biofilms in the wound. The resin is also capable, when applied in sufficient quantities, of providing a continuing and persistent antimicrobial against planktonic microorganisms and biofilms through dehydration and ion exchange with cations present in the blood and other body fluids. Composition and method for arresting blood flow and for forming a persistent microbial barrier

The subject invention concerns methods for preparing alkaline earth ferrates and the preparation of hemostatic compositions from alkaline earth ferrates. In one embodiment, the alkaline earth ferrate is strontium ferrate. In one embodiment, methods of the invention comprise heat treating mixtures of alkaline earth oxides and/or peroxides with iron oxides, such as hematite or magnetite. The subject invention also concerns hemostatic compositions produced using metallic oxides that are reacted with alkaline earth oxides and/or peroxides and the methods used to produce the hemostatic compositions.

Materials and methods for preparation of alkaline earth ferrates from alkaline earth oxides, peroxides, and nitrates

The subject invention pertains to materials and methods for stopping or decreasing the blood flow from an open wound or medical or surgical procedure. Compositions of the invention comprise a salt form of a cross-linked polyacrylic acid. In one embodiment, the composition comprises a sodium salt of a polyacrylic acid. Compositions of the invention can also optionally comprise one or more different salt ferrates, and/or a cationic exchanger resins, and/or a silver compound. In an exemplified embodiment, a composition of the invention comprises sodium polyacrylate provided in a dry powdered form. Polyacrylate compositions of the invention can be applied directly to a wound or treatment site, or they can be incorporated into a wound dressing, such as a bandage. The clot or scab formed at a wound or treatment site treated with the present invention is extremely elastic and exhibits considerable tensile strength when stretched to the breaking point. The subject invention also concerns wound and surgical site dressings and coverings, and methods of using a composition of the invention to stop blood flow from an open wound or treatment site.

Materials and methods for wound treatment

An electrolytic cell and a method for accelerating the reduction of gamma ray emissions from a radioactive substance. The cell includes a non-conductive housing and a conductive end member sealingly positioned in and extending from each open end of the housing. Gamma ray emitting material such as powder, granules or gases in an admixture with palladium black powder or particles are closely packed into the chamber. A longitudinal gas passage extends through each end member in gas communication with the chamber. Each gas passage is sealably closeable, one gas passage being connectable to a source of pressurized hydrogen or deuterium gas deliverable under pressure into the chamber to charge the catalytic particles. A distal end of each end member is connected to an electric power source wherein, when electric current flows through the chamber, the gamma ray emission count decays at an abnormally high rate.

Electrolytic cell and method of reducing gamma ray emissions

An energy conversion cell for converting electric power into heat. The cell includes a non-conductive housing formed of spaced, preferably glass outer plates sealed along common perimeters thereof to define a closed interior volume or chamber. At least two catalytic plates are held spaced apart in the interior volume, preferably separated by a dielectric plate. The catalytic plates are preferably formed of very thin palladium plate material. A gas passage in gas communication with the interior volume is connectable to a source of pressurized hydrogen (H) or deuterium (D) gas deliverable into said interior volume. A high voltage a.c. electric power source is connectable through a high voltage step-up transformer between each of the catalytic plates whereby, when a.c. electric current flows through the catalytic plates and across the dielectric plate, the interior volume, being filled with hydrogen or deuterium gas, heat is produced within the interior volume for external use.

Hydrogen isotope fuel cell

A contaminated water disinfectant and method including a quantity of substantially dry soluble alkali metal ferrate (VI) particles. A porous sealed packet contains the particles in a quantity sufficient to disinfect a predetermined quantity of contaminated water by oxygenation. A quantity of substantially dry insoluble inert particles are also contained within said packet and are of sufficient weight to cause the packet to at least partially sink into the contaminated water. The packet is formed of a porous sheet material capable of passing oxygen and water therethrough while preventing undissolved ferrate and inert particles from passing from the packet and entering the water.

Ferrate-based water disinfectant and method

A composition and method of arresting the flow of blood and other protein containing body fluids flowing from an open wound and for promoting wound healing. In the method, a substantially anhydrous compound of a salt ferrate is provided for a unique use which will hydrate in the presence of blood and body fluid to produce Fe,thereby promoting clotting when applied to the wound for a time sufficient to arrest substantial further blood and other body fluid flow from the wound. The compound is formed of a salt taken from the group consisting of H, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs and Fr. However, to decrease or eliminate stinging sensation, the compound may be formed having a salt taken from the group consisting of Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ra, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Cd, In, Sn, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt, Au, Hg, Tl, Pb, Bi, Al, As, NH,and N(C,H,),. The preferred composition also includes a cation exchange material such as sulfonated ion exchange resin as an admixture which will hydrate in the presence of blood and other body fluids to produce Fe,thereby promoting clotting of the blood and body fluid and to produce oxygen. The cation exchange material produces a scab or protective coating over the wound for protection and enhanced healing. Oxygen produced during the reaction substantially reduces the level of bacteria, virus and fungus at the wound.

Composition for arresting the flow of blood and method

Alkali metal iron (IV) and iron (VI) ferrates are produced by forming a particulate mixture of reactants including an alkali metal nitrogen oxygen compound and an iron material selected from the group of iron oxide, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4 and an iron compound which self-reacts at a temperature less than about 1100.degree. C. to form Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3. The mixture of reactants is subjected to a predetermined elevated temperature for a predetermined time duration sufficient to bring about a reaction between the reactants which produces at least one of iron (IV) and iron (VI) ferrates. The molar ratio of alkali metal nitrogen oxygen compound to the iron material is preferably in the range extending between about 4:1 and about 8:1.
