The boot process of a content/service receiver is dynamically monitored to provide error and/or status information in a step-by-step and/or in a single-snapshot manner. This can be accomplished by, for example, utilizing an application thread running within, and/or, outside the context of the boot code. Status information from, for example, software drivers and/or any other software/hardware/middleware components, is acquired by the application thread utilizing any mechanism, for example, event-driven and/or polling, and then relayed to an external entity, which can be locally and/or remotely located. The external entity can be reached by any means of standard and/or proprietary medium and protocols available, if necessary. The relayed information can then be used, for example, for displaying to a user via a graphical user interface, and/or can be recorded and the like.

Systems and methods for dynamically reporting a boot process in content/service receivers

A method, device, and computer readable medium for adaptively configuring a router in a communication system having a plurality of network devices. Data packets passing through the router are examined in order to determine network parameters associated with the plurality of network devices. A plurality of network interfaces in the router are then adapted to the network parameters so that the router is operatively coupled to the plurality of network devices.

Method and apparatus for adaptively configuring a router

A generic access card is paired with a data destination device by insertion into its card slot, and the public portion of a public/private key is stored in the card. The card authenticates the destination device. The paired card is transported to a data source device which includes a card slot and a removable mass storage medium. The card, when inserted into the card slot of the data source and authenticated, transfers the public key to the source device. The source device generates content encoding keys, and encodes the data on the storage medium. The content encoding keys are encoded using the public key, and loaded onto the card. The card and the storage medium are transported to the destination device, where the card provides the encoded encryption keys. The destination device decodes the encrypted content encryption key(s) and decodes the encrypted data for playback or display.

Method and apparatus for synchronizing digital video using a beacon packet

A system and method for distributing satellite television program signals utilizes IP and Ethernet multicast addresses to define and allow the acquisition and/or distribution of a particular satellite television program signal. The satellite program identification data or parameters for the particular satellite program signal are encoded by an IP multicast address assigned to the particular satellite television program signal from a block of IP multicast addresses, preferably by a mini head end. The assigned IP multicast address is mapped to an Ethernet IP address for distribution to an Ethernet compatible component such as a satellite signal receiver or set top box. In this manner, any and all satellite program signals may be provided to one or more satellite signal receivers through IP multicasting.

A bi-directional communication system advantageously automatically senses and reports problems to a central operator network management station and operates with fewer subscriber service interruptions by detecting and correcting such conditions before they result in subscriber service interruption. Specifically, a system adaptively varies upstream transmission power level to prevent communication interruption in a cable modem network. A method for adaptively adjusting communication operation by varying a transmission parameter involves retrieving a communication parameter from memory and comparing the retrieved parameter with a predetermined threshold. A message is transmitted to a CATV head-end at a remote site representing that the parameter value indicates adjustment of the parameter is necessary.
