A fastener comprising a T-shaped plastic planar member has a base which can be taped to a wiring assembly or harness and a normally extending trunk which has a pressure sensitive adhesive pad secured to a portion thereon adjacent the base and which has a releasable cover overlying the adhesive pad to protect the same during handling, but which can be unfolded to expose the adhesive pad to enable the pad to be fastened to a panel of the vehicle by merely pressing it onto the panel.

An electrical component package comprises an insulator housing of thermoplastic material having a hollow base and a cover. The hollow base supports and locates an electrical component longitudinally in a component cavity and holds and positions the component leads in terminal cavities at opposite longitudinal ends of the component cavity. Insulation displacement terminals are then inserted into the terminal cavities establishing electrical connections with the positioned component leads. The hollow base is then partially filled with a sealant material after which the electric component package is installed on a pair of electric cables by closing the cover to push the electric cables down into insulation displacement slots of the respective terminals.

A fiber-optic connection system comprises three interfitting plastic parts. A two-piece cable terminal includes a cable receiving body and a terminal body. The terminal body has two spaced projections which mount the fiber ends and has a pair of converging cable guide walls. The cable receiving body has walls with gripper teeth complementary to the guide walls. When two cable strands are introduced and the bodies are interconnected to form the terminal connector, the walls trap the cables. The fiber ends are finished by hot plate melting. The terminal connector is inserted into a header having pockets to mount electro-optical devices. The pockets have integral spring rails to force the devices into contact with the projections containing the fiber ends upon assembly. A series of integral lock tangs and shoulders retain the component parts interconnected to prevent inadvertant disassembly.

Fiber optic connection system and method

An electrical connector comprises a connector body and an elastomeric seal of one piece construction which seals the conductor end of the connector body and provides an interface seal when the connector body is plugged into a mating connector. The elastomeric seal is held in place by a backshell which provides a protective shroud for the interface sealing portion of the elastomeric seal. A lock arm is incorporated into the backshell which also provides a strain relief and a mount for a connector position assurance device.

A sealed electrical connection comprises a socket connector and an electrical connector plug assembly which includes a plurality of cable termination assemblies. The cable termination assemblies, which include either a conductive elastomeric terminal or a sheet metal terminal in an insulator housing, are put together by arranging an axially projecting bared conductor core end of an ignition cable coaxially with a ferrule portion of the terminal and inserting the axially projecting bared conductor core end of the ignition cable axially into the coaxially arranged ferrule portion of the terminal.

An electrical connector has an interface seal mounted on a plug portion of a thermoplastic connector body which serves as the mounting surface for the interface seal. The plug portion has a conformation which opens onto the mounting surface and the interface seal has a retainer portion which snaps into the conformation to assure that the interface seal is always correctly positioned. The interface seal has a sealing portion which is made of silicone compounds and the retainer portion is made from thermoplastic material or silicone compounds having a substantially higher durometer than the silicone compounds of the sealing portion.

An electrical connector has dielectric connector bodies which are coupled and locked together by a resilient lock member of one connector body which snaps past and engages a lock member of the other connector body. The resilient lock member includes a slot which extends through one end and a lock shoulder which faces the opposite end. The other lock member includes a lock shoulder and a loop which passes through the slot of the resilient lock member and cooperatively forms a gauge hole of predetermined minimum size with the resilient lock member when the connector bodies are coupled and locked together by the lock shoulders. A gauge pin having a shank of substantially the same predetermined minimum size is disposed in the gauge hole to indicate that the connector bodies are locked together by the lock shoulders.

A weatherproof electrical connector has an interface sealing arrangement comprising a plug connector body having towers which slide into terminal cavity enlargements in a mating socket connector body. An apertured seal pad is mounted on the towers and sealingly engages a projecting shroud of the socket connector body.

An electrical connector comprises a connector body having a longitudinal cavity which receives an electrical terminal to be retained therein. The terminal is retained in the connector body by a latch portion of the terminal which is protracted by a central rib in the cavity into engagement with a latch shoulder in the cavity. The latch is normally in a retracted position to provide protection against damage and entanglement during handling.

An electrical connector comprises a connector body and terminal arrangement for electrically connecting a flexible printed circuit and a pair of hardboard printed circuits. The connector body has two rows of terminal receiving cavities, most of which receive generally U-shaped transition terminals which electrically connect the flexible printed circuit to one or the other of the hardboard printed circuits. The hardboard printed circuits may be electrically interconnected by a jumper terminal disposed in corresponding cavities of the two rows and directly engaging the confronting faces of the hardboard printed circuits and/or by a bridge terminal engaging transition terminals in corresponding cavities of the two rows.

Electrical connector for printed circuits

A unitary housing of moldable dielectric material having a body portion, a cover portion, and an interconnecting hinge portion is clamped onto a terminal portion of the flexible printed circuit having a plurality of uninsulated, cantilevered conductor strip end portions. The body portion of the housing has open ended cavities. Terminals are disposed in the cavities in biased engagement with portions of the conductor strip end portions wiped into the cavities by the terminals. The cover portion is movable between an open position providing access to the cavities for assembly of the terminals and a closed position for clamped engagement with the terminal portion of the flexible printed circuit. The terminal cavities may be in an irregular pattern and may include a part cylindrical surface to facilitate the conductor strip end portions being wiped into the cavities by the terminals. The cover portion may be releasably or permanently retained in the closed position and may include rounded projections aligned with the cavities and in biased engagement with the terminals disposed therein.

Connector for flexible printed circuit

An electrical connector means for a printed circuit comprises a sheet metal terminal adapted for insertion into a hole through the printed circuit board from one side and electrical connection with a printed circuit on the opposite side of the printed circuit board. The terminal has upright relatively rigid slotted wings which biasingly engage opposite surfaces of the printed circuit board portions received in the wing slots. The wings which mechanically secure the terminal to the printed circuit board operate independently of a resilient tongue of the terminal located between the wings which establishes electrical connection with the printed circuit. The printed circuit board and terminal may also be provided with cooperating structure means for aiding assembly, proper terminal seating, terminal protection and latching.

A printed circuit assembly has a flexible printed circuit carried on a rigid panel which includes an open ended cavity. A flexible conductor strip of the printed circuit is wiped into the cavity by a sheet metal female terminal upon insertion of the terminal into one end of the cavity. The terminal has a box-like portion for receiving a male terminal inserted into the opposite end of the cavity, a first resilient tongue for biasing a terminal received in the box-like portion against an interior surface thereof and a pair of resilient tongues for biasingly engaging the conductor strip wiped into the cavity. The terminal also includes a transverse portion which biases the conductor strip against the panel outside of the cavity. Flat or partispherical dimples for contacting the conductor strip may be utilized and the terminal may include a ferrule portion.
