An antenna (20) including a continuous planar conductor (22) in a coaxial connector. The planar conductor (22) is made by stamping an array of slots (30) in a continuous sheet of metal with ends of adjacent slots (30) being offset from each other in an alternating pattern of long and short slot portions (32, 36) on each side of a centerline of the array; at least filling each slot (30) with a dielectric material (50), thereby defining a slot filled strip; and cutting along each side of the slot-filled strip intersecting each filled long slot portion (32) at a sufficient distance from the ends of adjacent ones of the filled short slot portions (36) to define a strap (42) of metal connecting the metal strips on each side of each slot (30).

A method for making an electrical article includes: providing a conductive lead frame having a first contact section (129) adapted to be electrically and mechanically secured to a discrete second conductive member (144) and a holding section proximate the first contact section (129) adapted to hold a portion of the discrete second conductive member (144); positioning a discrete second conductive member (144) on the holding section with a first connecting end (146) in engagement with the first contact section (129)of the lead frame; terminating the second member (144) to the contact section (129), the lead frame and the second conductive member (144) defining a subassembly; overmolding the subassembly with dielectric material at least over portions of the lead frame and the second conductive member; and removing at least the holding section from the overmolded subassembly thereby defining an electrical article.

An electrical connector (1) comprises; a housing (2), a card receiving mouth (3), electrical contacts (4), prong receiving sockets (26) on the housing, (2) card guide arms (5, 6), a prong (25) on each of the guide arms (5, 6) for locking engagement with any one of the sockets (26), and a mounting bracket (64) engaging a ground plane (74) on a memory card (73) and being shunted to a ground plane on a circuit board (9).

An electrical connector (1) comprises; a housing (2), a card receiving mouth (3), electrical contacts (4), prong receiving sockets (26) on the housing (2) card guide arms (5, 6), a prong (25) on each of the guide arms (5, 6) for locking engagement with any one of the sockets (26), and each of the sockets (26) lockingly engage one of the guide arms (5, 6) only with a card receiving groove (22) of one guide arm (5, 6) being oriented to face toward another guide arm (5, 6).

Electrical connector for a card reader

A multi plane connector system is formed by a header assembly mounted on at least one side of a circuit board and a connector commoning terminals of header assemblies on adjacent circuit boards. The terminals of the header assemblies can either be through-the-board mounted or surface mounted in either a soldered or spring loaded condition. The connector preferably includes latching means and can be back plane or ground plane mounted.

Multi-plane interconnection system

A bussing system for interconnecting circuits on pairs of adjacent parallel spaced circuit boards is formed by a bussing connector for each pair of circuit boards and a connector assembly on each circuit board. Each connector assembly has a header mounted on a first side of the circuit board, a shroud mounted on the opposite side of the circuit board, and a plurality of terminals mounted extending through the header, shroud and circuit board and making electrical contact with the latter. Each bussing connector includes a plurality of terminals mounted therein, each capable of engaging a pin terminal extending from a header of a first circuit board and a pin terminal extending from a shroud of a second circuit board.

An alignment tool is formed by a pair of mutually interacting comb-like members which, in the open position, receive a plurality of pin terminals depending from a connector between the tines and, in the closed position, the tines engage the pin terminals from opposite sides in trapping them and forcing them to a correct aligned position. After mounting of the terminals into respective apertures of a circuit board or the like the tool is released and, because of its relatively thin dimensions, can be readily removed from between mounted and mounting members.

A bussing system for interconnecting pairs of circuit boards in a closely spaced array of parallel spaced circuit boards is formed by a bussing connector for each pair of circuit boards and a pair of blade headers on each circuit board. The first header is mounted on a first side of a respective circuit board and the second header is mounted aligned on the opposite side of the circuit board. Each header is provided with a plurality of terminals having one end in electrical contact with the circuitry of the circuit board and an opposite end projecting from the respective header. The bussing connector has a housing containing a plurality of terminals each arranged to engage a terminal extending from a first header of a first circuit board and a terminal extending from a second header of an adjacent second circuit board.

An electrical connector, having a programmable ground feature, is formed by a housing having a mating face, a bussing surface and a plurality of terminal passages extending between the face and the surface. A like plurality of terminals is provided, each mounted in a respective passage, and having a mating portion directed toward the mating face, an intermediate conductor engaging portion, and a detachable buss engaging portion lying on the bussing surface. A conductive buss bar engages the buss portions lying on the buss surface to selectively common the respective terminals. A further module carrying commoned terminals can be mated with the connector to provide a high density, programmable grounding connector.

A connector assembly is disclosed for effecting zero insertion force mating of projecting blade portions of terminals carried by a plug member with conductive holes in a circuit board or the like and enclosed in a header. The plug member has a housing, a plurality of terminals carried in the housing each with a blade portion projecting from a mating face and a conductor engaging portion, and hermaphroditic cover members enclosing a portion of the housing. The housing also has a cam surface and polarizing lugs. The header has means to mount it on a circuit board or the like with walls of the header forming a shroud around an array of conductive holes in the circuit board. A cam member is rotatably mounted in one end of the header to act on the plug member driving it transversely to bring the blades of the terminals into contact with the walls of the respective conductive holes.

Cam actuated zero insertion connector assembly

A connector assembly is disclosed having both the capability of being mass terminated and for effecting zero insertion force mating with conductive holes of a printed circuit board or the like. The subject connector system includes a pair of identical housing members, each of which receives a plurality of terminals therein, and a pair of hermaphroditic cover members. Each housing member is an elongated member of insulative material having a mating face and a plurality of terminal receiving passages opening onto the mating face. The terminals each have a first end lying within the housing and capable of effecting mass termination of individual conductors by insulation displacing means and a second end extending from the mating face of the housing in resilient cantilever beam fashion. Each of the hermaphroditic cover members encloses a respective one of the housing members to form a complete subassembly. Each subassembly is mated to a circuit board in a tilted condition with the resilient beams of the terminals extending into the conductive holes of the circuit board. The subassemblies are then rotated relative to each other to latch the cover members together while bringing the beams into contact with the side walls of the conductive holes thereby effecting contact therewith while securing the connector assembly in the printed circuit board.

A connector assembly is disclosed having both the capability of being mass terminated and for effecting zero insertion force mating with conductive holes of a printed circuit board or the like. The subject connector system includes a pair of identical housing members, each of which receives a plurality of terminals therein, and a pair of hermaphroditic cover members. Each housing member is an elongated member of insulative material having a mating face and a plurality of terminal receiving passages opening onto the mating face. The terminals each have a first end lying within the housing and capable of effecting mass termination of individual conductors by insulation displacing means and a second end extending from the mating face of the housing in resilient cantilever beam fashion. Each of the hermaphroditic/cover members encloses a respective one of the housing members to form a complete subassembly. Each subassembly is mated to a circuit board in a tilted condition with the resilient beams of the terminals extending into the conductive holes of the circuit board. The subassemblies are then rotated relative to each other to latch the cover members together while bringing the beams into contact with the side walls of the conductive holes thereby effecting contact therewith while securing the connector assembly in the printed circuit board.

An improved strain relief device is disclosed for use in cooperation with a known electrical connector of the type having at least two parallel spaced rows of terminals separated by a slot. The subject strain relief device is snapped into the slot in the connector and has the conductors of the respective rows secured to the opposite sides thereof by means of a known bundle tie passing around the conductors and through a slot in the strain relief device.

An improved bussing connector is disclosed for interconnecting a plurality of printed circuit boards and the like by means of simple blanked metal strips loaded into an appropriate housing. The subject bussing connector can be used in combination with many varieties of housings to appropriately bus pads of stacked printed circuit boards for signal, ground and power interconnection. In a further embodiment of the bussing connector, a cam can be utilized to provide zero insertion mating with the bus connector.

Bussing connector

A modular connector and scheme for crimping magnetic wire thereto are disclosed. The subject connector is particularly useful for interconnecting wires of magnetic coils, found in dot matrix print heads, directly to standard flat flexible cable, ribbon cable, or round wire conductors on closely centered grids. The connector allows for each coil to be individually repairable separate from all other coils and eliminates the previous assembly steps of splicing and soldering the wires of the coils onto a printed circuit board header which in turn was connected to a cable.
